Why u want cheapest?
What do u want it to do?

Good things no cheap, cheap things no good...

If really want cheap cheap, can buy secondhand box or unknown brand.
But maybe dont work well, troublesome...

Ah, now you are talking thumbup.gif . But first must be stable, min bugs. I think must start setting aside $$$ already, for my next purchase.

stable, i already using it.

firmware 2.0.6 has only one major change from 2.0.5 - 4k full bluray menu.

works good for 1080p and 4k BDMV, BD ISO.

no idea about 3D ones.

Hi guys, i know this is Himedia thread but recently just got a Minix U9-H for my dad... just wondering which app provides movies streaming with 5.1 surround channel and above... tried terrarium and its mostly stereo or can it be configured accordingly? can it be because of the player (eg. kodi, mx player, etc)

yes, try it. very nice! get all the extras too.
if playing 4k hdr bdmv, u probably need to set the backlight of of tv to max as hdr is inherently darker than normal.
the blacks and whites, colors come out... ooo...! rclxms.gif

i actually do not know if there is any free app can give u online streams in HD and digital 5.1, except one - kodi-quasar.
kodi quasar can give u even 4k in 5.1.
read/ask in kodi thread if u need.
other apps... typically 2.0.
terrarium used to have aac5.1 for some links.
but i dun see them anymore.

other than what i ready mentioned, i can only think of netflix (on right devices) and astro iptv as giving dd or dd+5.1 - these are legit n payable.

other payables like hypptv, iflix are 2.0.

digital audio takes up even more bandwidth, not many users have it.

so the focus is on video, not audio for most apps.

Hi all,
I’m looking for WDTV replacement which died on me.
Current setup is HDMI to Tv 1080p (no need 4K)
And optical cable out to receiver for DTS 5.1 only (just pass through will do)
Attach hard disk via usb

Most files came from various codec but in Mkv file. play superb even raw 40gb without lag from picture and audio
Subtitle also works perfectly with sub or srt

Problem is western digital doesn’t came out WDTV anymore
What will be my alternative?

if the stated is all u need, your needs are basic.
u can walk into any shop and get a box rm200-300.
however, some cheap boxes suffer from:

.. inferior video quality compared even to your old WDTV.
.. may not read certain subs for newer files.
.. the worst ones may not do dd/dts.

WDTV and ACRyan were the kings of their days; even today, at 8 years old or so, they can still do what some new cheap boxes cannot.

technology has moved on such that most boxes focus on the video part in terms of resolution and the online streaming part.
just about all current boxes now can do 4k, hevc; u won't find "1080p only".
the better ones can do more - 10bit, HDR, dtshdma, dtsx, ddtruehd, dd atmos.

to be safe, better get one that will cover all yr current and immediate future needs.
the new files coming out now tend to be hevc; 10bit becoming more common.

as u primarily do playback and probably got used to a box native player, i suggest u consider the himedia q5pro.
this one will be good enough for u now and next few years even if u change to new 4k tv or start playing higher grade files or do online streaming.
just like WDTV, be sure u buy one with latest firmware (2.0.6) and be able to get future updates.

h8plus is rockchip 2/16gb android 5.1
a5 is amlogic 2/16gb android 6.0
q5pro is hisilicon 2/8gb android 7.0
q10pro is hisilicon 2/16gb android 7.0

differences lie in the chipset, firmware and certain features.
a5 was launched to position against other brand amlogic boxes, lower in price than q10pro.

it will come down to what u want to do with it, primarily.
simple apps, small files playback - all 4 can do, not much difference, u buy on price.
better video/audio quality output for large files playback, q5/q10pro is better.
but if u hv small old tv, little difference.

popularity, support... q10pro is best.
q5/q10pro with kodi 17.5 has ac3 audio passthru (dunno the other 2).
q5/q10pro has impex2 engine, bluray full menu (dunno the other 2).
q5/q10pro wifi reception excellent, (dunno the other 2).
none of them are compatible with astrogo and hyppewhere apps.

whichever u buy, be sure u have latest firmware, nice apps installed and where to get future firmware updates.

Hi guys, just found out that if u r using lets say MegaBox HD app to stream movies but using Kodi as the player, it can stream 5.1 channels. bear in mind that the source is 1080p.

Just for sharing. happy.gif
