I have the same bluray player as yours and I use Himedia HD600aII. Just buy an optical cable and connect from himedia to this sony and you will get 5.1 sound with 5.1 content. Optical to Sony and HDMI to TV.
Switch to "TV" mode on Sony.

Interesting specs, however still lacking USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac WiFi. Wonder what NAND memory It's using (eMMC 5.0 or 5.1/UFS)? I'm throwing my money at the screen and yet no manufacturer wants to create and support that box that completely rules other boxes..

if not mistaken, h8 quad has an allwinner chipset while q5ii and q16 has hisilicon and lastest h8 octa has rockchip.

but if same brand, similar firmwares and codecs, i would think most of the apps will work.

i know and can confirm q5ii is good with showbox, movie hd and most other simple apps.
not so good with popcorn restricted to small files due to small flash memory, not so good with kodi.
can't run tvapp.so
can do dtshdma but has some issues with ddtruehd.

i can also say q16 and h8 octa can do all of the above well.
plus ddtruehd, dd atmos passthru.

h8 quad seems not so popular alto cheaper. best to ask seller(s).

It's the same thing with smartphones, tablets, TVs, etc. Even the most expensive or highest specs model, they will always find a way to leave out one important feature.. I know it's a business strategy to keep sales continuous. I'm happy with my box and setup now too. Been thinking of taking the upgrade from VIP10 to Unifi30, same price and all but there was some talk around the forum earlier that we should hold off till after September, something better rumored to launch then. If by November, nothing... I'll go for it.. Hoping they'll at least up the upload speed from 5Mbps to at least 20Mbps... Wishful thinking. biggrin.gif

Edit: Seems like there's some truth to the rumor earlier... TM To Unveil “All New” UniFi This Week: Most Likely To Be Faster And More. Hoping for wider coverage and significantly much cheaper faster download & upload speeds.

Due to devalue of ringgit, not easy to find the model before RM300 now. However, pls give me some time, I'm still convicing Hinedia, hopefully could made it.

Thanks. Budget RM 250-300 as low as possible. Need connection to RCA in for amp. Phone to control. No connection to screen/monitor. Something like Q1 + hicontrol, basically to stream internet radio/music.

Function like Sonos Connect or squeezebox touch.

Alternative is bluetooth receiver...but the idea is to remove the phone from the chain.

Just adding ,my review. For those who want to use myiptv or hdtv on your box, just make sure the box able to run the app, ask the seller for 1 day trial just to make sure everything is running fine. It just won't work or have shitty quality.

Good share bro... Perhaps, you could add which particular box model has such issue? Easier for people to avoid.

My experience with Q16 is it can't play Cloud TV with the default player, need to install MXplayer to watch. Mine is firmware ver 1.07. I still do not know how to upgrade to 1.09, could not find

The quad core H8 definitely not recommended for those who want to use myiptv and hdtv app. Both myiptv and hdtv won't work. (workaround on hdtv is that within the app can turn off hw decoding but resulting in poor hd quality)

1.0.9 for quad core... http://bbs.himedia.cn/forum.php?mod=viewth...ge%3D2&mobile=2

I think cloud TV has its own player? I thought it played before I played/install mxplayer...but it was so long ago can't be sure...

H8 itself (both quad core and octa core) is capable doing hardware decoding, it just that my issues with myiptv and hdtv was due to app incompatibility with this particular model.

Octa core version, haven't tested it but supposedly it would have no problem.
