Hmmm...but when I read the packaging for Asus, it claims that 5ghz is 3 times the speed of 2.4ghz...strange

That's probably theoretical speed increase mainly due to the much less interference within the 5GHz spectrum. Electronics like Bluetooth and other wireless peripherals aren’t going to bother you in the 5GHz spectrum so there’s less interference. Microwaves don’t operate up here (not even newer ones), so that source of noise is eliminated, too. However, do remember that the primary difference between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies is range as the 2.4GHz frequency is able to reach farther than the 5GHz frequency. This is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. So if you are more concerned with the coverage, you should select 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz.

Hi all, i have Himedia Q16, any of you experience low voice volume and loud everything else in movie? some say because the movie was encoded for 5.1. haha i'm using only built in TV speakers.

Any software can make everything to stereo?

Thank you in advanced.

I thought there is stereo output on the box. Can't you use this to connect to your TV or your TV do not have RCA connector for L and R audio?

Depends on TV. Some will pass the 5.1 surround signal and some will not. Normally however, the TV has internal mixer to convert the 5.1 into stereo sound. Since the 5.1 sound can be split into any speaker, the sound produced after mixer might not be good. Normally voice are channeled to center speaker, but if it is channeled to L and R front, the stereo re-production might become faint or more like background sound.

I suggest that you try to connect the L R audio cable also. See how the result. It will not do any harm and the wire is cheap. Even if you have surround speakers later, you can just turn off the TV speakers volume. The mixer the the player normally will produce more better sound because it is mixed at source, not the the output wink.gif

The older 2.4 using 802.11b is using DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum). So, the maximum speed is 11Mbps within its channel. The 5.8 GHz 802.11a is using the OFDM modulation which has higher density, thus can carry 54Mbps within it channel. FYI, the 802.11a is invented first wink.gif The 802.11b then copy the OFDM modulation from 802.11a, thus able to carry 54 Mbps also and is called 802.11g standard.

The spectrum for 2.4 GHz is narrower compared to the 5GHz. Using OFDM modulation (54Mbps), there are only 3 non-overlapping channels on 2.4 GHz but there are 23 channels on the 5GHz spectrum. Then to increase data rate 802.11n is introduced. This is amendment to 802.11 standard to support multiple-input multiple-output, frame aggregation to named few. This technology can be applied to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency.

Normally the 2.4GHz can usually be used on 20Mhz mode only because the spectrum is shared by BT like your phone, wireless keyboard and mouse. BT is using FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum). This is the main reason the 2.4GHz radio has lower throughput. If near microwave oven, the data just get lost laugh.gif If you have area congested with many 2.4GHz devices, 5GHz WiFi is a way to go. Go for 802.11ac thumbup.gif

3 times faster? I dunno what the condition Asus is claiming for.

the low voice-loud music thingy is normal for 5.1 or 7.1 files. to avoid that, u just get lower grade files with 2.0 audio.

u can try other audio settings, much the same, i tried before.

the rca l/r audio cables are meant to work with composite video output. if u connect both hdmi and l/r to same tv at same time, the l/r will be nulled.
if u use l/r audio with composite video, the video sucks! biggrin.gif

Hehe no harm trying i would say. I never run 1080 due to bandwidth issue, maybe the video quality won't be so noticeble. Most of the app doesn't let us choose what kind of audio quality. My place can't run popcorn, so i'm left with showbox and skyHD. Most of the time running on showbox only.

well, when you have better broadband, >10mbps and a fairly new 5.1 home theater, you will be able to get the max out of the Q16.

Q16 is excellent for 2 things:

- large flash memory allows the largest 1080p files in popcorn to stream nicely
- audio pass thru for dtshdma, ddtruehd and dolby atmos

UPDATE: Problem fixed!!! Yeaaa!! Apparently Samsung smart tv audio setting can switch to night mode. This make the soft dialogue louder and sound softer.

device->avr's hdmi input.
avr's hdmi output->tv
hdmi carries video and audio.
the avr will deliver audio to audio system/speakers.
the avr will deliver video to tv.
but this way, u will not get audio on tv direct.

another way is to connect device->tv hdmi for video and audio.
connect device toslink or digital audio (coaxial rca) output to avr for audio.
this way, u can get dts/dd only, cannot get hd audio which requires hmdi connection.

yrs is a htib (home theater in a box)... a bit inflexible compared to custom built ones.

check what connections are in the htib, try what i said.

to try, no need to buy.
u must hv one of those common rca cables at home somewhere.
i must hv a hundred of them in my bag!

note, audio setup with home theater systems is mainly for playback of high quality media files.
it will not be of much use for online video streams as the audio is usually basic 2.0 or 1.0.
