After factoring the 5% rebate for amex weekends + 5X points, is maybank visa or maybank amex better?

MBB2 AMEX definitely better but the thing is, i did get the 5x TP but not the 5% weekend cash rebate. I am still waiting for their written reply. Will call their CS as soon as i get it.

A few users also mentioned that Transaction on 30-31 July 2011 (weekend), didn't credit the 5% rebate.
Maybe it's counted for next month's rebate... but I think that's not really fair.

correct me if i am wrong, 5% rebate for overseas transactions rebate are based on the posting date so perhaps this is the reason 1-2 August ones are not eligible...

zenquix has confirmed that even overseas transactions made with the MBB2 AMEX are based on the transaction date and not the posting date.

i thk this happened due to the last day of the month and the last weekend of the month falls on the same day
normally the transaction would have posted before the cash back calculation

maybe mbb need to shift the cash back calculation to the 2nd or 3rd day of the month to avoid this

Maybank VISA/MasterCard : 0.5%
Maybank American Express with Maybank logo on top : 0.5% + 2.5%

Let's say I am charging RM3000 equivalent of foreign currency to my card, comparing between AMEX and VISA

Weekends
AMEX: + RM50 (5% max rebate) + RM75 (15000 TP) - RM90 (0.5% + 2.5% service charge) = + RM35
VISA: + RM15 (3000 TP) - RM15 (0.5% service charge) = 0

Weekdays
AMEX: + RM75 (15000 TP) - RM90 (0.5% + 2.5% service charge) = - RM15
VISA: + RM15 (3000 TP) - RM15 (0.5% service charge) = 0

Can I conclude that use AMEX on weekends; use VISA on weekdays?

Assumption: The exchange rate for the same bank is the same, the only diffrence is the service charge. Is this correct?

Added on August 7, 2011, 9:57 pmOn a second thought, it is only worth it to use AMEX as long as it does'nt dip to negative.

Clarification from zenquix:
QUOTE(zenquix @ Aug 8 2011, 04:50 PM)
all foreign transactions - Visa and Amex (and Mastercard) will be converted to USD first before being converted to MYR for settlement.

Also Human Nature's assumption is flawed - Amex and Visa are 2 different companies and may impose different foreign exchange rates (for the same time, same place etc.)

Maybank is only an issuer and will impose charges on top of the exchange rate given by the credit card companies.

Mind to ask why the selection of AMEX on weekday as Maybankad2 Master should be lower exchange? 5x TP?

Because it's company expenses ;-) with 5X TP
If for personal expense, I would have used Maybankard2 Visa instead.

UOB Visa Card

NZD -> MYR

Transaction Date :
30/6/11 : NZD 40 -> MYR 102.73, Rate : 2.56825, Visa Rate : 2.505586
2/7/11 : NZD300 -> MYR 765.22, Rate : 2.55073, Visa Rate : 2.488534
17/7/11 : NZD88.68 -> MYR 230.55, Rate : 2.59980, Visa Rate : 2.536382

UOB Visa card has consistently charged 2.5% Fees on top of the Visa Corporate Rate on http://corporate.visa.com/pd/consumer_serv...er_ex_rates.jsp

My question :
Which daily foreign exchange rate is better, Visa Card or Master Card (without considering the additional admin fees imposed by the banks) ?

It's more or less the same. Just use Maybank credit card when overseas. Problem solved.

Is this correct?

QUOTE
Final amount charged = Amount in foreign currency + Admin rate (imposed by the bank, e.g. 0.5% Maybank visa) + Foreign exchange rate (imposed by visa/mastercard/amex)

Added on September 4, 2011, 6:23 pmIf the above is correct, comparing between Maybank Visa and SCB Plat Business Visa is as follows:

MBB : 0.5% (1x points) - 0.5% (charge) = 0
SCB : 0.5% (cashback) + 1.5% (3x points) - 1% (charge) = 1% ('gain')

In this case, both are Visas hence same forex rate. Am I missing something here?
