May I ask 1 question?

Now i already received my maybank 2 cards credit card, Mastercard and AMex.

Assume that i need to spend on my hotel at overseas on weekend, is my Amex still entitle for 5% rebate?

Is mastercard foreign exchange rate and Amex is the same, excluding the 2.5% of Amex additional charge?

Added on May 2, 2011, 6:37 pmThanks !

No one really knows. Anyway, it is safe to assume that it is not.

Do you think if i use AMex (2.5% extra charge) with 5% rebate will still be better using the master card (0.5% additional charge)?

Try to :
- read Gen-X's blog
- search for Gen-X's posts

May not be anymore. IMO, HSBC will provide 0.25% chargest (after off-set the 1% rebate it provides).

Look for International cash back.

@chunglern ... your attachment does not contain the 1% cashback information although the website does. Better you point to the website rather than to the PDF which does not contain that information.

If you are using the card then please provide the reference information. FYI, Maybank even uses a different forex rate vs. other banks thus their conversion is very attractive. HSBC uses a different forex rate which is higher than MBB but hypothetically the final number could be close but I'd prefer if someone make an actual comparison and not just provide the info here with proof of actual conversion in action.

You forgot to also mention that HSBC Amanah is strictly rebates with no points vs. MBB rebate+points system.
Please don't omit anything in the future ya ... let's try not to mislead our readers.

Ooops! My bad.

Actually I called them to confirm yesterday afternoon and they confirmed that 1.25% is the admin charges which is already included in the FOREX rate.

1.0% cash back on all overseas retail spending and 0.5% cash back on all local retail spending.

So to support my claim, from what I can understand from what the HSBC CCC rep has informed me plus what I've read on the link above, there should be only 0.25% charges for international transactions (after off-setting the 1% rebates provided).

I mentioned here that it is only a cashback card without points system @ http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=42104287

I've been posting in 2 diff tread might have thought I already mentioned... Anyway, hope that is clear enough for now, until I try it myself this coming Aug when I'm at oversea...

Will further clarify it again! smile.gif

i think opinion from our friends here that different bank might use different exchange rate is absolutely right. charge 21060 russian rubles using SCB Business platinum just now and this translates to RM2295.73. I looked at xe.com the rate should be around RM2262.20, if we take 1% charge is still a lot more.

The website does not allow to use Amex, I was thinking 1%-0.5% cash back= Maybank plus 3 points every ringgit for overseas expenses.

Ahh i recall SCB has one of the higher exchange rates rivaling that of Amex. So is alliance bank visa.

Maybe in addition to the 'stated' exchange rates we can maintain a depository of actual exchange rates vs a common benchmark (xe.com, wawasansentosa.com etc.)

something weird happen with my transactions that I have posted recently using rubble/russion dollar. the sms alert and phone call that I've received from SCB fraud team the amount is 21060 rubble= RM 2295.73. This is steep if we consider the xe.com on that time RM 2262. The shocking news when I saw in the SCB online banking today the amount now going up to RM 2304.99 . I have emailed them to ask about this but it seems the exchange rate + 1% bank charge is quite high.

The only thing I can save is the cash back 0.5% which only about RM 11 and 3 choice points
