M2Amex linked Paypal account.

If I were to compare wawasan rates against Amex rate, I should compare the posting date or the transaction date ?

something weird happen with my transactions that I have posted recently using rubble/russion dollar. the sms alert and phone call that I've received from SCB fraud team the amount is 21060 rubble= RM 2295.73. This is steep if we consider the xe.com on that time RM 2262. The shocking news when I saw in the SCB online banking today the amount now going up to RM 2304.99 . I have emailed them to ask about this but it seems the exchange rate + 1% bank charge is quite high.

The only thing I can save is the cash back 0.5% which only about RM 11 and 3 choice points
*
I have confirmed with SCB customer service the sms alert is the amount before the bank add their admin charge which is RM 2295.73. After add the admin charge the actual amount is RM2304.99, so the admin charge for SCB is 0.4% instead of 1%. However the exchange rate is quite high 0.109 compare to XE.COM at the transaction date 0.107

Using OCBC TITANIUM
- transaction date : 28 May 2011
- amount charged in foreign currency : SGD 33
- amount billed in MYR : RM82.33
- final exchange rate : 2.495
while i check on https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyc...sion/index.html
the actual rate was about 2.445. It looks like SGD to MYR charged 2% on bank charges.

Using OCBC TITANIUM Mastercard
- transaction date : 03 June 2011
- amount charged in foreign currency : GBP 1000
- amount posted on 04 June 2011 : RM5,025.85
- final exchange rate : RM5.02585

https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyc...sion/index.html
Settlement date at 02 June = RM4.9434
Settlement date at 03 June = RM4.9273

Wawasan Sentosa Selling at 03 June = RM4.99
Wawasan Sentosa Selling at 04 June = RM4.99

BNM Seling at 03 June = RM4.9282
BNM Seling at 03 June = RM4.9167 (Friday clsing)

Citibank DCA spot at 03 June = RM4.9273

Based on the Mastercard 03 June settlement rate, looks like the service charge is about 2%.

Using OCBC TITANIUM Mastercard
- transaction date : 02 June 2011
- Posting date: 06 June 2011
- Appearing statement date 07 June 2011
- amount charged in foreign currency : THB 2578
- amount billed in MYR : 262.79
- final exchange rate : 9.81011

[url=https://www.mastercard.com/global/currencyconversion/index.html[/url]
Settlement date at 02 June =
1 THB = MYR Malaysian ringgit 0.098863
1 MYR = THB Thai baht 9.986151

wawasan rate sells THB :10.15000

Compared wawasan rate & CC
(10.15-9.81011)/10.15 = 3.35%

****Pay more than 3.35%

Compared actual rate with suggested rate
(9.986151-9.81011)/9.986151 = 1.763%

****Higher rate of 1.763%

Conclusion: The bigger amount , the "LOSS" is bigger, even taking 1% rebate into account.

Here are some of my transactions in SG on 25/5/2011, Posting Date all same 26/5/2011

MBB Plat MC SGD335.98 MYR829.87 Rate = 2.47 (Ratio 1 : 1)
MBB 2 AMEX SGD73.70 MYR185.86 Rate = 2.5218 (Ratio 1 : 1.02099) Therefore MBB 2 AMEX 2.1% higher than MBB MC
EON VS SGD38.49 MYR96.69 Rate =2.5121 (Ratio 1 : 1.01704) Therefore higher than MBB MC by 1.7%
OCBC TMC SGD104.90 MYR261.66 Rate = 2.4944 (Ratio 1 : 1.00987) Therefore higher than MBB MC by 1%

One thing for sure is EON Visa Signature rate is not competitive even with them giving 1% cash back for overseas transactions.

Maybank
14 Jun 2011
- USD157.70 > RM484.45 (USD1 = RM3.0720)

**Wawasan Sentosa's USD rate on 17/2/2011 was USD1 = RM3.025

Maybank
20 Jun 2011
- USD399.87 > RM1239.24 (USD1 = RM3.0991)

**Wawasan Sentosa's USD rate on 17/2/2011 was USD1 = RM3.035

It seems to me that HSBC credit card exchange rate isn't quite as bad as it was.

18/6/11- M2 Amex

SGD 17.90 - RM 45.20 --> 2.5251

19/6/11- M2 Amex

SGD 9.36 - RM 23.62 --> 2.5235

20/6/11- OCBC Ti

SGD 22.35 RM 56.39 --> 2.5230

As you can see, the OCBC Ti Master exchange rate is on par with the M2 Amex. Unless the exchange rate fluctuate so much in 1 day which I dont think so, it is not worth using it for overseas transaction.
