eventhough I've lodged fraud report to Maybank abt this company, yet they still call me~ WTF!

cipsmor: good point on the RM499. Maybe that amount won't make the card centre that is monitoring fraud charges to be suspicious?

received call from this number also...offer about insurance....indian lady...when i said dont want, she pass up to an indian guy and paksa me to give my cc number....

kezman, they did say where they from? And what did the guy said?

my friend got a call from hlb to confirm cc transaction...the thing is he dont have cc and didnt apply any..he did call to cancel the card and make police report...what else to do? from this forum i found out that hlb cs is 'the worse'...anyone with experience and knowledge can help?..definately someone use his ic to apply cc without his knowledge..

u said ur fren did call to cancel the card?

means the 1st call is true from the bank?

coz 1st, need to verify the receiving call.
next, call bank and verify if really have the card.

this is bcoz, the thief who use ur fren IC to apply the card, use ur fren real fon num when apply?
so swipe 1 time big amount and bank will call 'real' owner to verify, can block the card already.

call the bank means the real number, can get it from the website.

dont call the number that just called in the receiving list.

apparently, its the same modus operandi as the one gen-x referring to..very lucky i know about this forum..and my friend is very thankfull..luckily we manage to figure this out early...first, the so call cs of hlb call to verify the false transaction..when my friend say he never apply cc, then the so call cs tell him he will help make report to police...a few min later, the 'police' call and ask him to go to a silent room to take a recording statement..(this is when i suspect something is wrong..i know police never make recording statement via phone..my dad is a retired police)...then later the 'bank negara' people call and ask to transfer money to a certain account to 'prevent further damage'...actually, we never manage to call hlb..the line keep us on hold forever...luckily police station is nearby, and the real police told us about this kind of scam...very dangerous...my friend is a knowledgeable guy, but im sure, if he is in this alone, he will definately bank-in the money...the level of stress and tension and scare of being scam is very high making it almost imposible just to take a breath and re-think everything...and those scammers is very convincing

now scammer can make screen phone number a real bank phone number, but actually they didnt call from that number! (refer post #1 E.1)

for ambg/ambank cust, remember - DONT ANSWER call from 130080888 or 0327188888.

it is a REAL number for ambank customer care, but only for receiving call from us!

this ambank issue did appear in news (TV also) previously.

(me myself is ambank cust - savings/atm/mastercard plat/amhigh/unit trust but never ever received call from them, weither to verify card transaction or promotions~)

so far i just received call from hsbc and maybank, for verification of 'big' transaction (hsbc above rm10k, maybank above rm4k).

if REAL bank call to verify transaction, they will just ask this:

cs: hello <ur name>. i'm from <bank>. u just swipe ur card <exactly amount> at <shop's name>?
you: yes.
cs: ok just to verify. have a nice day. bye.
<end call>

they wont ask for ic or expiry date card etc. just to verify transaction! thats all.

sometimes, they will also ask/verify previous transactions.
again, just amount of transaction and location! thats all ~

tips if receiving call from promoter (usually insurance):

just tell the promoter u didnt have any credit card.
usually they will ask - how about maybank visa debit?
just reply - i'm using visa atm card, dont have visa logo.
if cs said - but here got record u have credit card?
reply - i already terminated it. maybe bank didnt update yet. if u dont believe, call bank and ask them.
<end call>

(usually they wont ask the bank, coz bank wont entertain them. they may call u back later 'konon' already verified with the bank).

what to do? after end call, immediately save the number under <whatever name that u dont want to answer> then set 'blank/empty' ringtone for that name

sometimes, promoter will politely ask do u have time now?
reply got work, pls call me back next 40 mins / 2 hours <u set the time>

after end call, do the steps what to do above

i received a call from this 1 num:
1st call said promo for bonuslink user,
2nd time call said promo for alliance cust,
3rd time call said promo for others (cant remember).

the thing is, the no appear on his mobile phone is either unknown or 0301..

ur 1st post said already call to cancel card? then just now u said never manage to call hlb

Don't put 100% trust on phone calls that they are from xxxx bank and want to verify your info. If you feel something fishy, hang up the call and call back the bank number from their website or behind your credit card to reconfirm everything.

This one also claim to be from AIA! Take database from AirAsia insured

Got a call from this number 0193202731 regarding to Maybank 499 lifetime discount card a few minute ago. I dont understand why they need 3 digit atm card number at the back.

so that they can charge you~ i bet they must have said "this is for verification purpose only"~

yeah... after that, i have no interest. this must be scam. dealing with bank using cc before but never ask for number at the back.

C.2 0192560863 From Zest Leisure. Asked for your card information. Firstly she asked me for my CC. Then I said I don't have. Then she asked me did I have any cards? One time pay RM499 and no monthly/annual fee cipsmor.
Often many of us get telephone calls from person claiming to be either from banks and even Bank Negara Malaysia.
