higher fsb strains more on ur mobo than processor... this is a good way of finding ur fsb wall, and yes, high fsb with lower multiplier is better than high multiplier with lower fsb... dats bcos ure making the mobo, and ram run at a higher speed... one of the mobo that has the highest fsb wall is biostar tpower i45.... easily 600fsb, world record is 700fsb biggrin.gif

u sure ur ram is limiting u???
coz at 400fsb u can still run ur ram at it native speed of 800mhz.

try pump a bit more vcore and see whether it boot.

Added on February 18, 2009, 7:35 pmare u running ur proc the e5200 at 350fsb without lowering the multiplier or what???

yup, i misunderstand..not my ram..it still run in stock speed..now use 6-8 multiplier to boot up with 300+ fsb..is it vcore or NB voltage cz read some where need to pump more volt on NB when run high fsb..? one more thing, how to check NB temperature, i cannot find it in BIOS..got people say, touch the NB hsf when your pc are running, if can touch it more than 10 sec with out burn your skin, it safe .. hmm.gif

You can take a look at my guide on overclocking the C2D & rams, which also includes the E8400. wink.gif

Here's my system spec:

Gigabyte GA-G31-S2L motherboard
ValueRAM DDR2 800 2G single channel
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 on stock HSF cooler

The first time I try to overclock, I manage to push it until 3.6GHz. But then I try to make it to default and play around with it. But after that, I cannot even push the FSB more than 340x9=3060MHz. What happen ? Why the first time can but the second time cannot ? Something melt or what ? It just shut down 2 times and all is back to normal which is 333x9 = 3000MHz. rclxub.gif

Do you need to set to auto the System voltage ? Also the CPU voltage I never touch.

edit : since I cannot overclock from BIOS, I just overclock using EasyTune5 Pro (come with my GA-G31M-S2L on windows. Now I'm at 400FSB smile.gif but the speedstep always on. so 2.4GHz most of the time. How to disable speedstep btw ?

Guys, Im using Intel QX6800 @ 3.1ghz with Gelid Silent Spirit cooler and Tuniq TX2.
I tried running stress test just now ( prime95). The Maximum temperature on load i get is 74-75 and idle is 48-55.
Its quite high. I wonder whats the problem, or is it normal for my processor?

QX6800 temp is a bit higher, like my doing 3.3ghz temp prime95 hovering around 68-70c vcore @ 1.331v, yours is slightly a bit higher than mine.

I see.., since mine is slightly higher, so is it because of the Cpu cooler? yours is better??
By the way, until what temp can a processor be pushed till? maximum temp ?

If G31M-S2L and the ES2L version share the same bios, yes you can clock thru the bios.
There's a MIT option over there.
If don't have, try to update your bios and run again.
I'm use G31M-ES2L, and am very satisfy with the result. smile.gif

Watch your temp, it on the very high side, your are only running occt, if you will to run with linpack i think it will be sky rocket high n get reay for fried proc. Anyway what is your vcore voltage.

Hello guys,

i overclocked my E8200 to 3.36ghz, but after awhile, i mean in a few weeks, there will be time when the oc automatically changed to stock speed upon restart(i restart myself, not restarted in game or stability test), may i know what is the problem? is it because of unstable or what?

My pc Spec
ep35-ds3r
e8200 @ 3.44 (now) - v1.2
4gb ddr800 corsair xms2

... what should i do? did i do any wrong?

Im using Intel C2Q extreme QX6800 and I heard ppl saying OC to high speed hard and things..My CPU stock is 2.93ghz(266x11). I know nothing about OC so I jz changed my fsb from 266 to 270  and multiplier from 11 to 13 with the asus mobo utility and my clock speed became 3.5Ghz and the process cost me like may be 1 minute? And my multiplier can go up to 30 u know. I couldn't believe OC was this easy and i knew that definately something is wrong rite? So all u sifu here enlighten me?

tq

Did you checked your processor temp ?
my QX6800 running @3.1Ghz , temp already 75c max on load using prime95.
