hey there takudan!
i was a kk8 resident last time for 3 years i think, and im a comp science student as well.
your post reminds me of the good ol days in college. ahh.. yes, the cats are fat like hell and the shit is well.. shit.
have you encountered any monkeys yet? laugh.gif

its a sad thing that the dewan makan thingy is abolished. is it already abolished or will it be soon?
sometimes, yes the food sucks, but at times, they are bloody delicious, and most importantly, its free! and most of the makcik in the dm is very nice (they always give extra for cool seniors laugh.gif)

so, regarding your majoring, i cant help you much, but if, a big if that is, you are interested in MIS, you know who to find, alright?
but since you love programming, maybe SE is your best bet.

hi there and welcome Takudan!  biggrin.gif

first of all, the female tag is for real?  tongue.gif

the canteen in KK8 will be closed eh? what its going to be then? a normal hall for general usage?

and talking about majoring, SilentSerpent will be butthurt seeing that u arent interested with MIS lol.

abang mod ni sempat buaya ya...
nah.. no point in butthurting.. i aint selling no shit..

but let me just tell you this takudan, i remember our moderator here saying,
"menyesal aku ambik SE, kalau aku tau baik aku ambik MIS".

hi there, im curently a first year fsktm student.........i hav 1 question to ask..........hope u guys cn help.....

my question is.......cn i register for xtra credit hours nex sem? on top of the maximum 21 credit hours we r allowed to take?

i hav a big problem here............as i failed cso during my first sem, n i need to take it nex sem to pass all my level 1 courses

so means i will need to take 24 credit hours nex sem........i heard i need to drop some of the subjects nex sem in order to accomodate cso.........is it necessary to do so?

cn i take more than 21 credit hours? what if cso clashes wif other subjects nex sem? i dun wan to delay my graduation.......

anyone failed cso too? haha......jz curious

thnx
*
hey there mezzi,
its a sad thing that you flunked your cso. a lot of ppl did too.
i think you should not rush it, and dont overburden yourself with the extra credit hours.
yes, you can apply for more, but the chances of getting it approved is very slim. the most you can usually get is only 1 extra credit hour.

its ok. everybody, well almost everybody will surely fail once. no worries though, you still have plenty of time, and even more to spare if you really buck up the next sem. there's no need to rush it, for you may just make things worse.
take it one at a time, and trust me, you'll do well.

the first year is always the hardest. once you got through the first year, you'll get a clearer picture of the whole thing, and you'll know what i mean.
good luck!

Hi,

I would like to know more on the Degree in MIS course at UM and I have some questions to ask too..

- I saw on the MIS program overview, and i saw that "candidates will be conferred with Bachelor of Information Technology degree".
Do you grad as an IT or CS? Cause i see on the list of faculties, that its under Bachelor of Computer Science .

- Does UM like offer any kinds of recognised certificate for that course within UM itself? Or do you have to take it somewhere else?
- Is there a lot of students taking that course? Mostly are?
- Is there like differences between ISE with MIS (Management Information System)?
- In general, is the course demanded outside nowadays, for getting a job later?

Thanks.

as far as i can recall, FSKTM of UM offer two kind of bachelor degree which is Bach of Computer Science and Bach of Information Technology. There are 4 majoring breakdown for Comp Science :

1. System & Networking.
2. Software Engineering.
3. Artificial Intelligence (dunno if they abolish due to lack of participants)
4. MIS.

while for IT:

1. Multimedia.
2. Management.

Dear UM students ( particularly those from Faculty of Science or Faculty of Medicine),

I intend to further my PhD in the near future and thus, started to look around for potential supervisors for thesis title. I'm sure those in the research field knew how important it is to seek for the RIGHT supervisor for guidance. As I know none of the doctors and professors in UM, I would like to survey on the background of these lecturers (particularly character-wise and their relationship with students).

My field of interest are (1) Microbiology and (2) Immunology. If you guys do know any of the lecturers in such field which are good and they themselves are seeking for PhD student, I would be grateful if you would to let me know their name.

Below are the doctors and professors which I've managed to streamline and I've intended to email them.

1. Dr. Chan Kok Gan
2. Dr. Chan Yoke Fan
3. Dr. Chang Yi Yen
4. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Init Ithoi
5. Assoc. Prof. Jamal I - Ching Sam
6. Prof. Dr. Jamuna rani Vadivelu
7. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koshy Philip
8. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lee Chong Weng
9. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Yusoff Musa
10. Prof. Dr. Rohela Mahmud
11. Prof. Dr. Sazaly Abu Bakar
12. Prof. Dr. Thong Kwai Lin
13. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chua Kek Heng
14. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rina N. Karunakaran
15. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Aisah Hj. Alias
16. Prof. Dr. Sekaran Muniandy
17. Prof. Dr. Shamala Devi K.C Sekaran
18. Dr. Geok Yuan Annie Tan

Please do private message me if you have any information regarding them. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you smile.gif

MIS is under CS, not IT. so you will be graduating under bachelor of computer science.
yes, um offers a lot of other courses, which are mostly optional, but quite good nevertheless, for you to bolster your cv. some of the courses, like other forumers explained are ccna, oracle and flash courses.
difference between mis and ise? by ise, you mean information systems engineering, right? well, im not really sure since ise is not offered, but in my opinion, both are quite the same, actually. its just the name that is different, or maybe a few subjects, thats all.
regarding the demand, im not sure how to say this but, comp science graduates are a mixed bunch. yes, all of them are quite in demand, and it depends much on your skillset actually. for me, i think that mis has the largest and widest scope, since you can easily jump into management, project management, web development and even marketing.
so, i hope that answers most of your questions. feel free to ask more laugh.gif

btw, are you currently a comp science student, or are you planning to be one?

the general overview of bachelor of IT (Management) taken from the website :

QUOTE
The Bachelor of Information Technology (Management) programme caters to students who wish to study Information Technology in depth, with the added focus on business application and management. The course teaches students the art and ethics in conducting business as well as marketing products and services, be it software engineering, multimedia or network computing. Additionally, the basics taught apply to all Intellectual Property creations, and graduates would have no problem in applying their knowledge to a bevy of new technologies, whenever they are created.
more details on 3P here : http://3p.prestariang.com.my/

the 3P courses are the certificate classes offered by UM. the courses are free and the certificate will be given when u've passed the final examination after 2 or 3 weeks class.

where r u currently studying? u r doing ur diploma?

well, depends on what you mean by 'good' really.
UM is one of the best, if not the best uni in malaysia. so, whenever you say you are studying in um, people will be amazed. even employers regard um very highly.
in terms of comp science in um, well i cant say much about its quality. the faculty of comp science in um does produce a lot of successful graduates, and a lot of failures too. so, it's your choice really.

Hi Chazmonster,

I'm one of the FSKTM graduate major in System & Networking. My definition of good is :

1. Lecturers with not just good but extreme network knowledge.
2. Hands on experience with networking devices (Cisco).
3. CCNA academy curriculum.
3. Employment market - regard highly by companies.

but, if programming running in your vein SE is better choice. There's no much network programming teach in FSKTM.

For me, one thing i regret is the lack of Unix/ Linux in term of materials & lecturers. Sure there a loads of articles and tutorials available in the net, but if i can have one particular lecturer to teach me the art of Unix it would be much healthy.
