hi sifus,
i would like to check with you guys which card from citibank gives you the best rebates for shell purchases if you do not have any outstanding balances? i.e. the kind of person who uses credit card just for perks and pays no interests for outstanding balances.

1) citibank cash back platinum (the blue/green card) which claims to give 5%
or
2) citibank shell gold which claims to give a maximum of 8% but i am not sure how it is calculated

my petrol expenses are about rm300-rm400 per month,

FYI i have both cards with me at the moment and planning to cancel one because the yearly GST cycle for one the cards is coming soon.

Get cash back platinum card. Shell card only give you maximum 4% cash back only

Sorry for not being specific, I thought I was in the Citibank thread.
I meant Citibank cashback visa platinum aka the fake platinum

If use it at shell it has more returns than the dedicated Citibank shell gold cashback?
That was my question.

yes, citibank cashback platinum has more return as it gives you 5% rebate, much much better than shell card.

Use Amex2 card on weekend with smiles card (Esso/Mobil) and you get up to 9% off. (5%cashback + 2.5%points + 1.5%smiles point). You have to accumulate to 3,000 smiles point to redeem RM45 worth of petrol. Unbeatable!

A normal car user 1 week pump once, let's say RM50
1 month = RM250
3000 points / RM250 = 12 months

Mean u get 1 free refuel annually rclxms.gif

and RM45 / RM3000 = 1.5%

Not too bad for rebate/cash back rate nod.gif

one correction, shell only prints out the last 3 digits. one strange thing is, i have seen a shell receipt (left at the pump) that prints out the full name of the card holder (not mine) but never for mine, not even surname.

Smiles points is given by Esso/Mobil...not by bank

E.g. u pump with UOB card, get 2% cash rebate, then Smiles additional 1.5%, total 3.5%. If u like the fuel the -1.5% difference I'm sure u won't mind icon_idea.gif

in that case i think it is a damn good deal.
imagine 5% from credit card + 5% from this smiles card = 10%
