my friend tells me that all the vista in the market are ultimate copy inside the DVD.but the difference lies in the product key only, which will then determine the version of vista that's going to be installed. is that true?
i'm asking becoz i've never browse through the disc for home and ultimate.
*
For retail copy, the files in the DVD are indeed for ALL versions and it is the product key that verifies what version you should be using smile.gif

Not to mention that you get legal CD-Key.  thumbup.gif
Yup, full version. I'm not sure whether it's retail or OEM version. They're not giving Vistas in Retail boxes for sure. To get the Vista, we must bring your Student ID and a piece of blank DVD. Each student will be given unique cd-key. According to the MS rep, the cd-key is valid till 2012.

what the... the keys got expiry date one? I ask them before, they said wont expire doh.gif
the reasons on why its tedious is because they insist on burning the dvd for us...the most time consuming activity
and it should be retail version, but sadly no retail boxes, or else we can see a lot of vista promotions going on LYN and lelong laugh.gif

its the same dvd image for all editions, the difference only lies in OEM vs retail and 32 bit vs 64 bit. And it also means that you can try out the features in Ultimate even if you dont pay for it

Dude, you got that all wrong. Give the bigger one to Vista. At least 15GB. XP does not need that much space
*
I know that it must be the other way around but I'm not planning to use vista until I've enough money to upgrade. Actually, I just want to try the new OS.

mzaidi,
Not necessary both of partition empty. Previously, I already have install winxp in drive C:, and some file and folder in drive D:. I have no problem installing vista in the drive D:, and all files and folder previously in drive D: is intact.

Facing a problem here.
When i download a file from the internet, i cannot save it directly to C:\ drive. It said i do not have enough permission to do that.
But if i create a folder in the C:\ drive then save it to the folder, then it's work.
Is there any security setting that block me from saving the downloaded file directly to the C:\ drive?

perhaps there is security setting that wouldnt allow ur browser to save the file in ur local C drive. Check at the browser preferences or option.

Another question. If I install my XP at partition C, and then install Vista on partition D, will all my program shortcuts on XP's Start menu automatically be imported to Vista Start's menu?

Of course not, because you're install new windows in different partition. But if you install in the same partition, which is upgrading your winxp, you'll probably get what you want.

Windows Vista not allow Windows XP to share the same partition.I already try it need to set dual partition only can install and you won't occur any XP feature inside Windows Vista.

only windows vista business life cycle is until 2017 (April 11, 2017)
other version only supported until 2012 including so call "ultimate" (April 10, 2012)

The process to get the Vista is tedious. You have to queue up at any booth, complete a task (answer some questions, watch their demo, etc), and they'll give you 1 stamp. There are 7 booths, but you only need to collect 5 stamps, and then you can claim your copy of Vista.

I queued for 3 1/2 hours before I got mine.  sweat.gif

Only Vista Ultimate can play the games from XBOX360 but need the special Microsoft hardware to be installed in order to run the Media Center.
