i've read the first page for reference, but just to be sure. does most or all of the ipta in architecture are of 5 years?
*
the international standard for architecture is 5 years after A-levels (or equivalent). all architecture courses in malaysia follows this standard.

1, 2, 3 or 4.

remember, to be an architect, u need part 2 degree. in order to do that from SPM, u need to take a pre-u course (stpm, matrics, a-levels etc), then do ur part 1, and later continue for ur part 2.

i'm still using archsoc, for the lack of other rankings present.
i. yes. LAM do not recognize twinning programmes. what u should do at least is finish ur part 1 degree in LUCT, then continue for part 2 in curtin. but even so, LAM in its new proposal will also no longer recognize ANY overseas universities automatically. although it's not written now, the wheels are already set in motion and will be tabled at the cabinet soon.

this is due to the resistance of overseas schools to allow LAM to come in and review their schools. so all LAM could do is sit back and wait for the graduates to come in. due to the various number of schools with very, very different systems, it's better to host the examination locally in malaysia, only for those who are interested to work here.

it's easier, as u dont have to worry about the recognitions. but yeah, the exams gonna be a little harder.

thanks for answering~~

so it means that i do not have to worry about LAM recognition if i do not plan to work in malaysia right? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Actually, you do not have to worry about recognition even if you work in Malaysia.
Recognition matters only if you plan to practice on your own, as in setting up your own architectural firm.

azarimy
How come I don't see any of Malaysian architecture schools listed in the archsoc site you mentioned?

The majority of architects are from science background. Some unis require science subjects as requisite for entry into architecture degree.

from its website, the ranking limits itself to only english speaking schools.

QUOTE
Every school from nine key English-speaking nations examined: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Eire, Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand

which is why other top schools of architecture in europe arent listed as well, like bauhaus, ecole de beaux art etc. heck, even indian and chinese schools arent listed as well.

in the mean time, maybe u might be interested in a new (read: not that reliable) ranking for architecture schools. follow the link below:

http://www.graduatearchitecture.com/ARCHSC...n.html#Register

it ranks UTM as #6 in asia (not just south east asia!) wink.gif.

I am surprised, UNITEC, which is the newest school in NZ/Australasia (Oz and NZ) is ranked at the top. It is nowhere according to other rankings. Sydney U, ranked second, is not really that well-known for its architecture course. It used to be.
RMIT is OK but it can't be above Melbourne U, using whatever criteria.
Good to know that mine is within the top 5 in Australasia. wink.gif
U of Adelaide is still within the top 10, not bad as I said.
While ANU is highly ranked but does not offer architecture, Canberra U is relatively unknown.
NUS and Hong Kong U, consistently the leading unis according to other rankings are, surprisingly, not within the top 10.
The archsoc ranking is not consistent with the latter ranking you stated(graduatearchitecture).

It is actually quite simple - how good an architecture school is can be judged from how high the entry requirements are for students to get in.

the problem with archsoc is simple. the guy who did it did so in spite of certain schools. i'm not exactly sure what the story is, or which schools were involved, but there's a certain amount of flak being thrown about in academia over the australian schools rankings. so basically some people pissed the author off, so he started the rankings, and those people got pissed, and started to piss on the rankings... chaos everywhere.

but again, there are no other rankings that we could use as reference.

graduatearchitecture has another ranking criteria that most other rankings didnt even take into consideration: affordability. it plotted the entire cost of study and living costs and compare it to the average income of the world. which is why UTM ranks pretty high i guess.

Hi azarimy.

If I finish part 1 in any IPTS and have passed the part 1 test at LAM.
am I able to enter IPTA to continue my part 2?

this sounds unbelieavable for me when I heard it.
Is it vry high requirement and low chances to enter?

yes. if u pass the part 1 exam, u can enter IPTA for part 2. the path leading to the part 1 exam is totally up to u. once LAM awards u with part 1, no school will question ur previous qualifications.

why is it hard to believe? for architecture, an IPTA in general get about 1000 applicants each year, but only takes in about 30-50 students.

Unlike other fields, your time is better spent playing with Autocad and Sketchup rather than reading books.
Architecture is more about doing rather than reading.

Parts I & II, to be taken together.

If your portfolio materials are in Mandarin, you need to translate them into English.

Thanks, but I have mastered both software including 3dsmax+vray, rhino+grasshopper, photoshop and illustrator. I did graphic design since I was 14 years old, worked for 2 years in an archi firm, then did freelance for architectural projects till now. I'm also learning Revit right now.

Besides that what I want now is some reading materials. Would be nice if you guys can recommend some good ones. Cheers.
