I'm looking at 1215b as an option for a netbook. The AMD E-350 processor review is promising, and the reso on the 1215b being 1366 x 768 is the primary reason for me choosing it over the acer aspire one 522.
Planning to plonk in a intel X25M 80gb ssd, reading about the case opening is a bit worrying, as it's possible to break the case, but i think the extra speed from ssd is worth it. Anyone has opened the case and put in an SSD yet? |

1215B is using the same chassis as the other 1215 models. Thus far, I don't think anyone here did a swap yet, but I think I might do it when I get a 1215B myself.
Also if you haven't seen it before, the dissection guide for a 1215: http://netbooksreview.net/news/asus-1215n-disassembly/ |

Saw the acer zacate notebook. big screen battery small not good combination for battery life IMO. It was the primary reason for going smaller screen with without going less than 1366 x 768 res for me.
Anyway, called asus wholesaler, they say no 1215B brought in yet? I was asking a local shop to order one to Kelantan. Did anyone see it being sold in PC Added on March 13, 2011, 4:35 pm QUOTE(AlexLai @ Mar 12 2011, 09:05 PM) 1215B is using the same chassis as the other 1215 models. New things always comes out, and in netbook segment I don't think performance difference is that much unless there is architectural difference. This looks like a slight clock bump. And that is one of the reason I go full fledged laptop instead of Fusion

It maybe gain 2-5% difference, the GPU is faster but the CPU is holding it down. It's just slightly faster than Atom because out of order execution. Don't buy this for gaming, indeed it can but would it be enjoyable?

The next refresh after the E-450 will be the 28mm Fusion is due for next year. So even with the E-350, it still won't be that obsolete until then.

I'm also going to wait for the 1215B, add ram + ssd, and enjoy the biggest reso netbooks can offer. 1366x768. too bad no 10" netbooks has that res. Should be able to get more battery life out.
Too bad the acer travelmate timelineX i3 too pricey with win7 pro at 2.2K. else I'd buy already since it has a nice case, even if it has a retarded fingerprint reader. With 2.2K, can get 1215B with 4GB and SSD.. I already have win7 home premium retail from my older laptop. Actually 4GB ram on netbook is not overkill. imagine 20+tabs browsing.. I'm going for intel x25m G2. it's priced around rm500+ for the 80GB AFAIK. I haven't considered other brands, but if there are cheaper ones, I'd probably consider it, since I doubt the AMD system can use the extra speed the intel SSD offers. At Kelantan, there's ready stock for the intel SSDs only, so there's not much of a choice here.
I find that 80gb is enough for me, since I don't install extra software, just software for work, and loading occasional DVDrips for watching movies on the go. I think it's worth for the performance and (supposedly) better battery power consumption. My old laptop 250GB never even used up 100GB lol. And my old netbook, lol, the eeepc 701 had only 4GB SSD. It required a lot of winxp and office tweaking to get it to run with free space to spare. Still I managed to install basic browser plugins and media codecs+players to boot. ended up with 3.25GB worth.Moved data to SD, still using it now, but the keyboard is already wacky, that's why considering the 1215B now. Strangely, the battery on my old eeepc still quite lasting about 2-3 hours (it's the first model, i overclocked it too, see sig) The 1215N has gotten better reviews for gaming, that would be an option for those wanting a gaming netbook. If for work purpose and surfing, I think the 1215B fits me perfectly. |

Ah, another month to wait for the 1215b. hopefully cracking open the case won't be too difficult for me.. bye bye warranty..
I wonder if the local asus distro will help 'change' the HDD for slightly higher price yet still retain the netbook warranty. (O_o) Basic OS/Apps prices now AFAIK. Win7 HomeP rm359 Win7 U rm635 Office HS 2010 rm227 So with rm600, can get ori win7 and office already. Win 7 too overkill in price, win 7 starter too retarded. hmm..really hard to choose..why asus dun wan make higher reso also..sigh.. but alang alang one..
thinkpad x220 how much? must be expensive.. Added on March 15, 2011, 4:47 pm"The X220 comes with a 12.5-inch display and will be powered by Intel's Core i3, i5 or i7 processors running at clock speeds between 2.1GHz and 2.7GHz, Lenovo said in a statement. The laptop weighs less than 3 pounds (1.3 kilograms) with a four-cell battery. The laptop can provide up to 15 hours of battery life with a nine-cell battery, according to Lenovo. The laptop's run time can stretch up to 24 hours with an external battery. The X220 laptop will become available in April starting at $899. Pricing for the X220 Tablet was not immediately available." the price is too spicy.. This post has been edited by Hico: Mar 15 2011, 04:47 PM |

QUOTE(sadako-chan @ Mar 13 2011, 02:12 PM) Saw the acer zacate notebook. big screen battery small not good combination for battery life IMO. It was the primary reason for going smaller screen with without going less than 1366 x 768 res for me. seems that i'm lucky that i bought the Acer 1410 netbook that comes with Intel Dualcore Celeron SU2300 before they EOL it. phew. 1366 x 768 reso too, on 11.6" screen Anyway, called asus wholesaler, they say no 1215B brought in yet? I was asking a local shop to order one to Kelantan. Did anyone see it being sold in PC Added on March 13, 2011, 4:35 pm missed this post. thanks, yeah, I round that review already. Almost bought a acer timelineX, but for my needs I think too overkill, plus the biometric fingerprint is heard to be lousy, so killed that idea. oh btw, the Acer 4253 has 4hours of battery life. if im not mistaken they marketed it with 5 hours of battery life but i know that isn't achievable. quite a bargain i'd say |

K345 will be faster.....why is malaysia so slow in getting AMD products. Or is it because AMD cannot never seem to fulfill the demand?

We can order the 1215b, but the guys at Asus told me that we cannot upgrade the Ram to 4gb.
They showed me the Asus product guide and told me that it was not mentioned that the motherboard can support up to 4gb of ram. I wanted to get this laptop but now im totally confused. Everywhere, in every review it says can upgrade to 4gb ram, but the dealer says the motherboard cannot support. Did they alter the motherboard for asia or .... |

Did you mean Evernew in Sunway Pyramid?
Well AFAIK, RAM is user upgradeable in the 1215 series and the chipset is capable of supporting up to 8GB of RAM except it will only run in single channel. |

shark_krin you should consider these:-
Lenovo G470, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM1599, FreeDOS Acer A42Jy, i3-370M + AMD HD6470@RM1799, FreeDOS Toshiba Satellite L645, i3-380M + ATI HD5650@RM1999 Dell Inspiron 14R, i3-390M + ATI HD5650@RM2199 Acer TimelineX 3820TG, i3-380M + AMD HD6550[1.8kg]@RM2199 i5 is basically an i3 with turbo. pricing wise Toshiba Satellite L64 is the best, base on your budget. gaming wise Acer TimelineX 3820TG is the best. best option is go for Toshiba Satellite L64. best look and good battery go for Acer TimelineX 3820TG. why i put Lenovo G470 there,is because? It is cheap and Intel HD3000 is a better integrated graphic currently compared to IntelHD and has better battery life and newer tech. |

QUOTE(Ricky Ling @ Apr 4 2011, 01:42 PM) Not that direct - LOL. One with Windows 7 Home Premium and another 1 is FreeDOS. And Dell Inspiron 15 uses Intel Pentium T4500 which is out-dated lah - Penryn core actually... Well, there are only two 15 inchers at that price range, so like it or not they'll be the competitors within that particular category Availability of OS apart, I guess its down to whether processing power or graphic power is preferred |

QUOTE(watekeke @ Apr 8 2011, 02:54 PM) The Llano price should be around Athlon II X4 price i guess.Llano will mostly own in notebook and some in desktop because desktop people much prefer discrete graphics. But since most consumer doesnt need high end graphics just to do little gaming/work,Fusion is what suits them all. Im sure alot OEM's gonna like it HTPC + Save Power + Fast + Great Gaming(especially for Lappy since its reso is low) + (Insert what u want) |

Basically Asus did chuck those specs into their 1215B. Only thing is the battery life doesn't reach that 8 hour yet.
The MSI X370 with an 8 cell battery nearly reaches 8 hours but it's a 13" subnotebook. |

You guys can always bulk buy from Singapore or other countries... there was a case some time ago involving the Asus UL20Ft~And since its international warranty Asus offers, it doesn't really matter should problems arise... |

Guys .. there is no 1215B in the PC fair.. I went there to check it out.
They said they had stocks at HQ but not at the fair. HP Dm1z was there though, 1499RM. 1569RM after the 4gb ram upgrade. Pretty reasonable if you ask me, so I got one. Plus it is upgradable to 8 gig ram.. which I will do so later. However, there were other sweet amd-e350 laptops out there. MSI has a sleek 13.3"" variant and a 15.6"" variant as well. Even lenovo had a 14'' variant for 1399. Although I do miss out the USB3.0 port of the Asus, I do have a laptop with a better design (imo), sleeker, more compact I am typing on it right now ... and it feels awesome for its size. However, the processor speed is not quite as fast as I had hoped. It takes abit long to boot up. You will experience some lag here and there.. especially with all this hp bloatware. Despite that, I am quite amazed at how smoothly it plays movies, hd content, and less demanding games. All in all for a netbook... I am quite pleased. |

Received Asus e-mail, saying E-350 1215B is coming this month, even mentioned PC Fair, which is weird, as PC Fair don't have e-350 1215B

I think I'm going to order a unit from them. Did not see a single 1215 model of any kind. Also, there was no 1015B there too.

The latest Asus Product Guide April - May 2011 from PC Fair only show Asus Eee PC 1215B with AMD Dual Core C50, no more E350. The salesman said 1215B AMD E350 is not coming to Malaysia! But I did called Asus Hotline last week, they said it will be available from 20 April onward.

It uses the 2.5" form factor.
1.8" might have some difficulties. |

Just fyi, EeePCs only come with 1 year warranty. The 1215B's case is hard to open, but not impossible. Access to the hard drive is through the keyboard so that's the only place you need to take particular care about. Also, you will void the warranty. K43U stock also available in PC Fair. Uses the new A43 series body but with the old K42 color scheme. Retails for 1299.

I wanted to get the Acer Aspire One 522 with AMD C50 processor. However it seems like Malaysia doesn't have it. Asus have one with C50 though.
Btw, what's the difference between E350 and C50? |

E-350 is basically an OC'ed C-50, and the integrated GPU as well... HD6310 is an OC'ed version of HD6250.. E-350 performs better but battery life would be lesser since it consumes more power... |

Having very positive experience with the K43U so far.
Cant really find any fault for such a bargain. RM1299 + laptop bag(hand carry) mouse screen cleaner earphone battery life for normal usage(mostly browsing) can last more than 4 hour |

By the time we get this 1215B, E450 beginning to be available. |

So far have been using my K43U for quite extensively. Battery life really is impressive for M.office, browsing, downloads, zipping etc.
Face some lag when downloading, browsing and doing work. Maybe SSD can solve it |

Better in a few ways, turbo core, better clock speed for processor, GPU and RAM while maintaining 18W power consumption...

WoW Asus 1215b not launching with AMD E-350? Seriously W.T.F
Perhaps they couldn't keep the price competitive; the 1215b C-50 is already RM 1399, compared to the HP Dm1z E-350 which including OS is RM 1499. I'm glad I didn't wait. No one interested in the Lenevo G475? I see people buying the Asus k43u and MSI 15.6'' system, but don't see too many people going for this model. I mean, buying a 14 incher for a low end processor is obviously not a good decision but since so many are still opting for it why not go for Lenovo? I can't wait till the x120e, I want to compare the Dm1z with the Lenovo. But they are seriously taking a long time to get their stock in Malaysia, at this rate they will lose a lot of market share on the E-350 range. |

QUOTE(smecksy @ Apr 19 2011, 11:52 PM) WoW Asus 1215b not launching with AMD E-350? Seriously W.T.F Well not everyone can afford proper laptops like us, 14inch for rm1.2k-1.3k is a bargain for many ppl who wanna watch movies on their laptop and do work with a bigger screen..Perhaps they couldn't keep the price competitive; the 1215b C-50 is already RM 1399, compared to the HP Dm1z E-350 which including OS is RM 1499. X120e is gonna be another level compared to dm1z, I predict the pricing gonna be around rm1.7k-1.8k with OS.. It's a real thinkpad for a cheap price tag afterall, unlike the edge 11 thinkpad wannabe.. And somemore it has matte screen.. They can give HP the headstart since they aim for a different class of ppl.. |

i think after seeing dm1 price and i3 sandy bridge 14", better top up to sandy bridge,
however, I know, both is not comparable as one is <12" range and another is 14". |

You know, I always wonder if the innovative minds who work on notebook internal design over at Asus can squeeze a H65 board into the size of a credit card like what they did for the 945G.

After 6 hours still has more than 30% Impressive for a 14" laptop. Oh and dont think having SSD will help since most of the bottleneck is at the CPU side. |

In Singapore, 1215B comes with E-350 and Win 7 HP and retails for 699SGD. During IT Show, price dropped by 100 SGD.
I'm looking at the 1215B because I: 1. Am an Asus nut 2. Like simple designs 3. Have used the 1215 series before and quite like it 4. Don't like to have a fan constantly whirring |

I got my 1215b today~(delivered from USA, I ordered it from Amazon)
After I keep testing it, there is a famous problem in 1215b and 1215N (maybe 1215T too). The touchpad is not working sometimes. Even I update my driver to the latest one. Some people change a new one from Asus, but the problem still exits. Some people has spent a week to find out solution. At the end, there is a guy fix it, and I will do it tomorrow after I finish my work. ===Quote from other forum=== - ISSUE SOLVED - Asus 1215 TouchPad Problem I have had my Asus 1215B for just over a week now and have had the same touch pad issues as being described on here. I spent a couple days messing with drivers but I realized that the issue persisted whether I was running windows, Linux, or even booted into Express Gate. However being the ingenious individual I am I decided to disassemble the laptop to check out the physical connections on the touch pad. The second time I did this I left the PC on so I could test it while wiggling wires. What I found out was the touch pad NEVER messed up while separated from the PC. After even more testing I discovered it only stopped responding when I snapped in the upper left side of the palm rest. I decided that the issue was being caused by a pressure point somewhere so after some logical guesses I finally removed the two silver foam like pads/spacers on the PC underneath the touchpad. After 3 more days of use I have not had the issue again. You only need to remove a few screws and you do not void warranty by opening the PC to that level. I used the instructions below: http://netbooksreview.net/news/asus-1215n-disassembly/ PLEASE REPLY IF THIS FIXED THE ISSUE FOR YOU AS WELL... Last edited by TerryUSA (Yesterday 8:36:38 am) ===Quote from Amazon=== http://www.amazon.com/review/R19ET02JA8MZ6...#wasThisHelpful I think you guys really need it~maybe? Good luck |

QUOTE(newlich @ Apr 21 2011, 02:49 AM) I got my 1215b today~(delivered from USA, I ordered it from Amazon) Wow, you study in USA?After I keep testing it, there is a famous problem in 1215b and 1215N (maybe 1215T too).
