I am currently planning my first trip to S.Korea. Knowing I like food very much, my friend (frequent busy travel to Seoul) told me to try out the following:-

@ Seoul, please do go visit these places for food:
1) All the korean street snacks can be get here under one roof - Gwang Jang market
2) Sariwon - For yummylicious Bulgogi
3) Singdangdong - for spicy tteokbokki with noodles, fishcakes, eggs, etc..(good for a late night supper especially in cold weather - missed this)
4) Myeongdong Gyoja - for spicy cold noodles
5) Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken soup) - near the Palace (Gyeong Bok Gong).
6) Crispy Duck near KBS station...forgot the address, can go eat and try to catch if can see some korean artiste..hahaha
7) Fish market - for korean style fresh sashimi and other seafood.

arghhh, a lot more.

Hi guys

Ill be going on a backpacker trip alone to Korea this mid July;
Need some info while I'm in the process of planning my itinerary

1. I need to be connected 24/7, where can I rent a phone with unlimited 3G data surfing using the iPhone? Mainly use for navigation n informing family of my whereabouts.

2. I have 6 days: shud I head out of Seoul to other towns? If so, which town would u highly recommend?

3. Is traveling alone in Korea generally safe for a female?

4. Also is bus & transportation an issue? English signs available?

How do u guys navigate ur way in Korea? I heard that street names r all in Korean? No English letters?

Lastly; anyone going mid of July backpacking too? Don't mind a travel buddy

Cheers

1. There are phone rental booths at the arrival section

2. If you want minimum travelling time, I'll say stay in Seoul. But short trips to several out of city destination should be fine

3. It is generally safe, stay in public place

4. Transportation there is 100% reliable. English signs are available. Seoul is a tourist oriented city, so you won't have problem navigating.

It's generally safe travelling in Korea, just don't go to remote area or back alleys or even taking a cab late at night. normal precaution when travelling alone.

Back in 2009, when I was there, there was a serial killer caught by the police. But his victims were GROs and he dump the bodies by the riverside.. well Hangang river.

I read that there is also free shuttle bus service between BUSAN And GYEONGJU for tourists to Korea.

http://kto.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/ek/ek_1_4_...429#SubMenuView

http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g2...outh_Korea.html

However, I am unable to locate the registration/booking of this service in the KTO webpage. Is this route being terminated now? Anybody knows or tried the service before? icon_question.gif

For Backpacking style & also attractions & also MRT routes & etc, just goto pg1. There are lotsa cheap hotels recommended if you just read backwards or even find some of the budget innostels as per link on pg1.

You go to KTO website. They have this 1 section where you can book your local guide. They are mostly university students, retirees who wants to practise their English. Their service is free but you need to pay for their food, accommodation/flight ticket/bus ticket (if outstation).

Just want to share my experience here.
I had been went to South Korea twice. Last 2 years, I was stayed at there for 1 month. That was the wonderful life which I ever have.
I scheduled my time by myself, it's flexible~
Don't need to worry about lacking of time, it's nice!!!
