As it was explained to me, hollow sound is due to the wear and tear of plaster/cement holding the tiles. If installed in Feb, I would think your tiles shouldn't sound hollow when you knock them. Best to get your tiles checked by another contractor, because the last thing you want is a tile falling off suddenly and injuring you or your loved one. John

You will still need to get your walls checked by another independent party who can verify the problem, and whether it is the fault of the original contractor. Best to check first before lodging report, weird things can happen in this world!

Hi. Just did some sourcing around Jinjang & Jln Ipoh during the weekend and I append below the pricing for your reference:

1) 1 x 2 1st Grade tiles (rough surface for both wall and floor) = About RM5.30 for White Horse, Goocera and Venus
2) 1 x 2 (same as above but 2nd Grade tiles) = About RM4.30
3) 2 x 2 (black galaxy) = RM18, one shop in Jln Ipon is selling RM16.99, some other marble-like tiles will be at the region of RM23
4) Rough stone (like 3D) for people to plaster at the pillars = RM55 for 6.1 sf

I was told that MML tiles are the hardest but of course they are the more expensive ones. I went to Houz Depot too and they are selling Guocera Tiles (1st Grade) at RM4.90 but of course with limited choices. They are also selling one Feruni tiles (2x2) at RM9.90 which I think is dirt cheap (but too bad that I don't plan to change my floor tiles at the living hall).

Hope it helps but since I was shopping in a rush, any better and cheaper outlets that I should explore ??

Hi All,

I got the below quotation to do some tiling work for kitchen and outdoor terrace tiling. Based on what I've in forum, pricing below per Sqft is very expensive (assuming my calculation is correct).

I've have not asked yet but I assume the price should include labour, cement, new tiles, hacking and removing old tiles.

Kitchen is using 300x300mm White Horse ceramic tiles and outdoor terrace using 300x300mm White Horse homogeneous tiles.

Please advice on this quote price. Thanks.

Install Tiles
- Kitchen Area Wall & Floor - 81 Sqft 1,377.00 (1377 / 81 = RM17 per Sqft)
- Wall Area 33'W x 5'H - 165 Sqft 2,805.00 (2805 / 165 = RM17 per Sqft)
Extend Tiles Outdoor 5' x 3.5'H - 17.5 Sqft 600.00 (600 / 17.5 = RM34 per Sqft)

Is black or dark grey floor tiles suitable for bathroom? Will soap stain/Grimes be too obvious over long time usage causing the tiles seems to be whitish?

Tiles can be dirt cheap to very expensive. What is the selection range? Can choose Niro high end range?

Thanks for your advise, the quote is based on not more than 4psf tile's price. What do you think then? for an example a 2'x2' tiles will ahve range to rm16 per piece.

Sound expensive. My price during 2011 was about 5.50 PSF for 2x2, and 4.5 PSF for smaller tiles. All exclude tiles. Include waterproofing in washroom.
