found my tiles at wet kitchen crack, and go n knock it one by one then found out most of the tiles also got hollow sound... picture taken after i ask the tiling guy to hack the tiles out to see.. from the picture, i can see gap between the cement and the wall, seem like the tiles is stick to the cement but cement not stick to the wall.....another picture show that the wall is smooth meaning the tiling guy didnt knock the wall 1st before lay the tiles..... anyone knoe why this happening? is it my assumption correct? very hard when u wan them to admit is their fault....... |

QUOTE(weikee @ Jul 5 2013, 07:26 PM) If that was original wall was smooth plaster the contractor need to rough it. If it was build up new wall no need rough normally the tiler will lay on the brick, or the plastering will use rough surface. weikee.. u r right..i oso notice onli new wall area dun hav hollow sound..but mostly my tiles was lay on smooth surface...meaning whole wall ned redo..faint..even table top surface oso got hollow sound..Sometime they use susu to helps the tikes stick. Look like you may have to hack out the hollow part and redo. This post has been edited by dinor01: Jul 5 2013, 07:46 PM |

QUOTE(John2013b @ Jul 8 2013, 06:12 PM) When were the tiles put in? Got warranty or not? I was told by contractor that wall tiles falling off quite common after 5-7 years, due to air and humidity. Not sure if this is true or not, but it's what I was told. John FEB intalled...its not falling off, its because i ask them to hack it out to see why got hollow sound.. |

QUOTE(John2013b @ Jul 9 2013, 01:17 PM) As it was explained to me, hollow sound is due to the wear and tear of plaster/cement holding the tiles. If installed in Feb, I would think your tiles shouldn't sound hollow when you knock them. Best to get your tiles checked by another contractor, because the last thing you want is a tile falling off suddenly and injuring you or your loved one. John if he dun wanna fixed it for me, i plan to log a report at consumer tribunal, since i got his quotation n payment receipt.. |

QUOTE(John2013b @ Jul 10 2013, 12:11 PM) You will still need to get your walls checked by another independent party who can verify the problem, and whether it is the fault of the original contractor. Best to check first before lodging report, weird things can happen in this world! u r right..thx for remind me this... |
