Hi to all.....

I also in the middle of house(apartment) renovation, specifically kitchen renovate.....

Actually, I want to re-tiling my kitchen floor, size around 90sqft, my contractor quote me RM1000 for hacking, labour, siment, plus tile 1'x1'...he said tiles price around Rm2/sqft.....

Do you guys think this price reasonable?
I think this too xpensive, does it?

It meant RM11 sqf not RM2. How he count?
1x1 tile was around RM2 - 3 except you getting than damn expensive tile and he willing to pay what ever you choice.
You may want to ask him what the max $ of tile you are allow, than you wil know how much the labour are.

Sometimes due to the area is small..the contractor will just charge lump sum amount.
If based on 90sf ..labour cost should be around 500.

Hi,

I was quoted for laying tiles (1'x2') for a car porch (400 sf) = RM4,000

Do you guys think it is reasonable?

Personally I felt it is too expensive.
Read through the previous post, I found the normal pricing are
labour + cement + sand = RM3.50/psf
1'x2' tiles = RM6.00

labour + cement + sand = 400 x RM3.50 = RM 1400
1'x2' tiles = 200 x RM6.00 = RM1200

Total = RM2600

Need to hack the existing tiles? But car porch should be more expensive than indoor...cos need the steel support and 1-2 lorry of cement.

Thanks wrb7878...
Currently no existing tiles... just cement floor...
So normally how much does it cost psf for laying car porch tiles? Is the price - RM4k reasonable?

I want to ask if anyone here used NIRO tiles for their home?

And if you did use the "matt surface" type for your inside house flooring???

Reason why i ask is because i like one of the series tile for NIRO which apparently only has matt surface, not sure if this will be not nice for walk bare foot and also the dusty effect or not.

So please share me your opinion or experience if you do.

RM1000/90 sq ft = about RM11 per square foot...

Minus RM2 tiles which means hacking/labour/cement is RM9 psf.

That's quite expensive! My contractor quoted me only RM6.50 psf for hacking, cementing, laying new tiles, etc... not inclusive of tiles of coz biggrin.gif

I got 1 quotation here....dare to TRY? hmm.gif

Added on May 26, 2011, 11:06 am1. Labour to hack and diposed rubbish from condo. 0.80/psf
2. Labour to install new tiles. 1.80/psf + material 400/731sf(0.55/psf), so total cost to lay new tiles + material is 2.35/psf....50% cheaper!!!

still considered cheap? With the early statement? Hacking charge differently and the contractor suggest I lay the tile on top on another tile. vmad.gif

RM5.00 Chinese contractor and chinese worker (For large scale hacking, removing debris, floor releveling) Wall & Floor, nice workmanship
RM5.50-RM8.50 (Maincon price, standard rate for consumer for above jobs)

I've been suggested by a contractor to lay tiles on the existing in the bathroom rather than to hack it. However another contractor of my relatives outside of KL has advised that doing that is risky esp for condos. The waterproofing for the first layer may be bad so if there's a seepage it will collect between the tiles and affect the floor below. Best always to hack through.

Some contractors have charged hacking and dismantling separately at about 500 per bathroom. All of mine have done this which means that psf tiling not inclusive of tiles was about rm9. Cheapest! I think the smaller your work, the more exp it will be as most contractors won't mobilise to work for less than 10k. I wish I had learnt home reno in school!

They don't want to hack the existing tiles...to save their work...long term should have problem.
Good tiles sifu wont recommend to lay the new tiles on top of existing tiles for condo type

Does anyone have contacts for good tiles Sifus then? Appears I am either overcharged or quoted by non- experienced contractors!
