Actually, I'm very curious about one thing; sound quality..
The stock Sager 8150 and 8130 is a 2.1 sound card..

Is it any better as the MSI GT680/GX660 or the ASUS G53?

Sound does improve gaming experience after all XD

If I want to buy this Sager lappy, I'd have to invest in upgrading the sound card too, is it advisable?

I think in order for you to enjoy that 3% discount is pay them with anything besides credit card. Cheque, money order, Bank wire transfer.

And do note that they will only accept the amount in USD.

Its written somewhere on their site.

But if you want go to the garage sale>notebooks and pda section and look for people selling sager lappy's I believe there is only 2 local resellers but warranty they bear the charges.

Correct any of the above info if I am wrong.

USB?
Isn't it better to replace Sager's 2.1 sound card?
I heard USB sound card is not as reliable as the built-in sound card.

True, when we game, sound matters wink.gif

That's one thing where it can't be upgraded. The sound card is soldered on to the motherboard, hence why external solutions are usually better for laptops.

I have the USB X-Fi, and it sounds amazing and definitely much better than the Realtek built in sound cards. Previously I had the X-Fi Expresscard for my NP8690, and that still performs better than Realtek. Currently the USB X-Fi is only plugged in to my netbook...since my order isn't here yet.

Other sound cards you should at (if you want one) are:-
- Turtle Beach Amigo
- Asus Xonar U1
- Creative X-Fi Go
- X-Fi Play
- X-Fi USB

The NP8130, NP8150, Np8170 do not have express cards so don't bother getting an express card sound card slot.

So, purchasing these USB sound cards are definitely worth the price?
In your opinion, what are the differences between the USB X-Fi and the built in Realtek?

Are the differences obvious?

The Realtek ones in laptops are pretty squeeky in terms of sound. High treble issues, and very common in many laptops. Not only this, it runs off the motherboard and adds a bit of strain on it. The Realtek has a cool feature that you can change the key of the speakers (kinda like increasing/decreasing the pitch). If you tweak it a bit, the Realtek can be a decent card.

The USB X-Fi was designed to run independently from the laptop.

It has better software packages, surround sound support and Creative only features (e.g. Crystallizer, robust equalisations). Well, in simpler terms, you get more "umph" in your bass, and better treble. The only downside is that you have to have external speakers/headphones. There's a very big difference in quality, but I can't show you that right now as I am at work now haha.

But if you're not too bothered about the sound, the Realtek is actually still a good card to have and also good for those who do not have speakers/headphones. If you're tight on money then just go for Realtek...unless you can haggle in Lowyat Plaza. Got my X-Fi for RM190.

cubehub offer discounts, but i think only applicable if you pay using USD instead of MYR

options.
add 500GB hard drive
cubehub - 1 year sager + 1 year cubehub
mucro - 1 year sager + 1 year mucro

cubehub - RM3,727.48 + RM 394.67 (shipping) = RM 4122.15
mucro - RM3,955.55 + RM262.13 (shipping) = RM4217.68
