If you're getting a 70200VR2 below 6k, means you're shaving about 1k off the street price. QUOTE(aldosoesilo @ Feb 22 2011, 05:32 PM) hahaha.. well you are so Nikonian then It depends on what kind of portrait and space, if indoor, 85mm on DX most probably will be too tight and if you want to take half-body, you need to much further (as previous example by celciuz).Looking for my friend who own 85mm 1.2 so can play with it. hey hey. yesterdays a friend of mine said 85mm on DX is the best range for portrait. what do you think? since you are so portrait I wanted to know your opinion. thinking to get UWA or 85mm 1.8 But also like edward mention, the perspective also different (e.g. the more tele, you get better separation from the background.) Try google portrait lens, for FX, you will find 135mm f/2 DC. You can also find Portrait pictures @ 200mm on FX using 70-200mm f/2.8. So, it depends what kind of portrait you prefers more or you want to capture. |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Feb 22 2011, 05:49 PM) Double the money man...and we're talking 5 figures. 5d2's middle AF point is very reliable. Outer ain't that reliable. And I have shoot in rain, snow, and its still works like a charm.I don't want to play the waiting game. Plus.. the D700 replacement price will be more expensive. It won't be 6k & early shipments would probably be limited & need to order and wait some more. I buy is what I need... not so much as want. I make a living from taking pics. The D700 satisfies my need. Plus the D3s' only significant difference is the high ISO performance. For now I'm not taking wedding/event pics at ISO 12800. If only the D3s has higher megapixels like the 5DmkII, then I would be more inclined to buy the D3s because I do print out large sized media. The only reason I didn't go for the 5DmkII is because of the slow autofocus and not so durable/weather sealed body. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 22 2011, 07:02 PM) My friend whose a 5dmk2 user tells me otherwise. He usually take a few shots because to compensate for any miss focus. That could happen. Well in my experience, the middle AF is spot on sharp. But the outer points is not reliable n some times can be a pain in the proverbial backside |

By right all should be similar cause full cross sensor isn't it? I know for D700 the 15 in the middle is the fastest and most accurate. The sides will hunt at times if you don't get a pattern as it is not a cross type.

Anyways, I find that 5d2's outer AF points hunts a lot in low light. And the center point is the most reliable. But to recompose using the mid point is abit pointless imo. |

QUOTE(KTCY @ Feb 22 2011, 09:52 AM) Very true. Getting the AF-S 80200 might as well get VR 1 Depends on how much you can get the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 for... If you're planning to use the VR 1 on FX body, it's ok unless you don't mind living with vignetting at wide open f/2.8.QUOTE(alpha_company @ Feb 22 2011, 03:24 PM) Yup yup.. price difference is close and plus you can get VR The cost of repairing motor of ANY AF-S lenses cost a bomb. ANY lens that has it's AF-S motor spoiled would render the AF-S lens non-functioning. The problem is not isolated to the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8.Added on February 22, 2011, 3:26 pm Never heard of such... maybe there are problems like that happening to some people but the problem with the AFS 80200 is a lot more serious as it just stop functioning all together and the cost of repairing the motor is a bomb. QUOTE(edwardgsk @ Feb 22 2011, 04:22 PM) Go for D3s + 24-70. I think you're going to be more heartache when the D3s gets replaced...You might regret once D700 replacement is out, just a sincere advice from me QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 22 2011, 06:16 PM) Try google portrait lens, for FX, you will find 135mm f/2 DC.
