i feel a bit laggy when closing apps.

the problem is memory. there are some tricks to fix this. i have a script that runs at 5am everyday to defragment the swap partition. with 12 days uptime the phone feels like it has just been freshly rebooted. no lag at all.

unfortunately, due to the latest cssu update, i had to reboot my phone. lost the uptime. smile.gif but i know my solution works.

hi all. new to this thread. been a n900 owner for 2 years. bloody good phone and i still love it to bits!

Hmm, I just realized it, the current CSSU seems to be the smoothest N900 experience I've ever had so far. Even now I can't stop tapping the screen and browsing from screen to screen just to feel the smoothness... I had 6 homescreens LOL.

hye there..

so i just installed the latest and stable version of SSU as instructed in this video.

And whats next? Sorry i'm very noob about this whole CSSU thing.

But how come my screen doesn't rotate like the video? Did i miss something?

type this in the xterm: gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/ui_can_rotate -t bool true

if you want vertical scrolling type this after entering the command above: gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/scroll_vertical -t bool true

Added on January 27, 2012, 4:35 pmhye guys. just found out about this thread/forum recently. didn't know that there are a lot more Maemo users out there as well! so first of all i'd like to show my N900 that i've owned since May 2010 (almost 2 years now). it's in stock state now after playing with numerous stuff (Nitdroid, Debian, Ubuntu, CSSU, etc). i get bored easily so when i was done playing with all of it i reflashed it. so here's a couple of pictures of my beloved device:

the leather casing that i am using is from PDAir which i bought for 30 USD. another brand that i would recommend for a premium feel would be Melkco, but the magnetic stud seems a bit bigger though.

and if there's anyone wondering about 32gb memory cards on the N900, here's a photo of my Sandisk 32gb Micro SDHC Class 4. i got it shipped from the states. apparently there's a new memory card format called SDXC, which its capacity is currently at 64gb Class 6, the highest so far. i did not have a chance to test it yet, so if anyone who has tried it, do let us know if it works.

All right, I forgot to tell you guys that someone over at talk.maemo.org has finally made 720p playback (and recording) possible on our beloved N900!

Here

Although, smoothness is another factor. But then again this solved another problem I had with... um, 480p MKVs encoded in H.264 profiles higher than Baseline (which, IIRC, the N900 can play without any problem).

Disclaimer: attempt this at your own risk. whistling.gif

Well if you want a end-user experience and don't want to risk the instability of the testing version, then i would recommend you to install the stable version. But if i am not mistaken the command should work the the testing version as well.

i bought it at their site bro for 30 USD (i forgot how much it became after convert). they shipped it to me after 10 days like that after making the order. i highly doubt that they sell in Malaysia cause accessories for the N900 are really hard to find. if you can't buy it online, try checking THIS thread out. i haven't try it out myself, so you should ask around there first.

I got myself the Xperia Pro for about a month+ already; need a qwerty...

Despite that, I still go back and use my N900 occasionally... nothing can replace the N900 up till date... it's still the best internet tablet smartphone... best PC like experience...
Even with all the "boombastic" browser and latest Flash in Android, chrome-like Dolphin browser, Firefox, Opera, etc... none can beat the dinosaur-age Maemo browser.... My productivity and what I can do in, went down when using Xperia Pro... no true-multitasking is a real pain, selecting certain text to copy is real pain, no short-cut keys like "ctrl+A","ctrl+v", "shift+cursor", etc. is a real big pain, no mouse cursor activation can sometimes be problem when navigating DHTML or interactive site.

Playing videos with Maemo was the LEAST problem, except for high bitrate and/or resolution... With other OS, so many issues and limitation.

Why oh why... how I wish Maemo is continued to be enhanced and updated... and a new device like N900 with better spec is introduced; With today's processing power and ram + Maemo OS, it'll be a gem...
No, N9/MeeGo is NOT a replacement, it doesn't live up to what Maemo offers, except maybe for true multi-tasking.

Unfortunately, fluidity and apps are all the rage now. If you asked me, Nokia isn't really going to sell much of these Maemo devices because using it is a little bit too complex for all the average users out there. We enjoy it cause we know how to avert the shortcomings and use it to it's fullest potential. It'll be disastrous however to make this a mainstream device if they can't find a way to make it more user friendly.... it's concept was also way beyond it's technology advancement during that time hence leading to a lot of bugs and unfinished aspects of the phone...

Still an avid N900 user here though. smile.gif
