Hello guys, N900 owner + 1.

Got it second-hand from a shop in Kajang. There are three more for grabs but I got mine the cheapest out of the ones the shop offers thumbup.gif

... Now phone almost like laptop/pc substitute already... doh.gif

RM 680.

Btw anyone has any tips on how to make a custom stylus for N900? I still have the default N900 stylus but when I need to do some specific tasks like drawing it isn't very comfortable and it's hard to control my strokes with it, so I thought I'd take a mech pencil and try to fit in something as a pen tip.

Need recommendations on a good stylus body + pen tip combo, inputs appreciated smile.gif

toothpicks won't break easily? how about a ball point pen that's run out of ink?
*
Did think about toothpicks before but at the present time being I'd prefer plastic toothpicks, not wooden ones sweat.gif And I need a more proper pen body for that as well... My current ones doesn't seem to be toothpick-friendly. :/

Don't want dried ballpen tip, afraid later the steel ball will scratch the screen >_<

For sure you can use whatever thing that suit you the most.
For resistive screen anything sharp is preferable.
For capacitive screen some blokes use sosej as makeshift stylus.
*
I'd prefer resistive screens because I can emulate pressure level detection nod.gif

Or can capacitive screens do that as well? Anyway, I know that the N900 uses resistive touchscreens.

For drawing, check this out, you can't never do it with capacitive touch:
That video is the very reason I bought this N900 laugh.gif

also I use the very same app that guy uses in his video.

Well, my issue is more towards styluses though. Maybe by today or tomorrow I'll try working one on my own and see nod.gif

It does looks like a mechanical pencil hmm.gif

Yep.

He bought Wacom stylus nibs and stuck it together with his mech pencil.

They still need workaround for the portrait desktop mode... suddenly my wallpapers look weird, I mean, there should be an option to apply a background for portrait mode desktop. So one desktop can have 2 wallpapers: 1 for landscape mode and another 1 for portrait mode. Don't really favor how my landscape mode wallpaper looks like in portrait mode doh.gif

Editing mce file? Some users ended up without keyboard backlight because of mistake while modifying that file laugh.gif

There's an app for it in the repos IIRC?

Well, gotta agree though that the portrait mode is a job done, it'll be me who has to deal with it for wallpapers laugh.gif

Virtual keyboards? Haha, I don't have that anymore. Not when it's replaced with JP text input from the maemocjk packages sweat.gif

Agreed. I'd stick with horizontal scrolling even on portrait mode desktop. sweat.gif

Better stick with horizontal scrolling la. At least when your desktop is in portrait mode it takes a shorter swipe to switch desktops laugh.gif

LOL, I don't really like touchscreen keyboards much. My initial experience on the Android tablets, my colleagues' Android phones, and even on Opera running on my N900 (Opera has its own on-screen keyboard) it feels damn awkward and I can't last for a second before opening the cover of the keyboard. sweat.gif

Finally managed to reach stable 1.1GHz on my N900. Tested with 24 windows open... I forced shutdown on my phone because it became uber lag enough, no crashes so far rclxms.gif

Can't sweep in the remaining 0.05GHz of extra juice, so sad though. sad.gif

how you do that? 1.1GHz and stable?
*
Power Kernel. (Advanced kernel or something in the repos, check fapman / app manager)

Unfortunately, while it is quite stable, one app refuses to launch while under this overclocked state sad.gif

I had to downclock to 950MHz in order to be able to use it.

ALL BECAUSE THAT ONE APP vmad.gif

... edit: looks like the stability was short-lived, means I can't have it on permanent OC. apps start crashing until an autoreboot happened. guess I gotta be content with 0.95ghz sad.gif

If any of you guys see cheap N900 for sale PM me.
I don't mind even if the screen is badly is badly scratched or the keypad is faded
*
Depends. How "cheap" is cheap for you bro? Also your location. At mudah I can see ppl selling it from RM580.

Kajang still got one or two more in front of Plaza Metro, across the road in the mamak shop. But too bad la I already bought mine from there, the cheapest one available there, the rest sell like RM700+ whistling.gif

... For some reason I really want a second N900 for the hell of it drool.gif

Damn, you guys over at the N9 thread, especially those who went to the meet last thursday, really make me drool la with your sightings of the N950 sad.gif

There weren't much people from N9 thread attending the meeting. But yeah, those who went was given rare chance to see N950.To be exact 4 N950 brows.gif
N9 is almost as good as N950 also.Maybe you can try it in Nokia Centers after it went to sale.

It's possible to repackage or rewrite some of the libraries & work in porting X86 application to linux ARM.
And he comes the kicker : Resistive screen works best with this ported apps. Why?Because Some of the icons are very hard to press & the stylus comes very handy in this kind of situation.
*
*ehem* N900 artist here. I gotta admit that resistive screens help emulate pressure detection a lot which is something commonly in use with digital tablets, particularly Wacom. I don't know if capacitive touchscreens can emulate tablet pen pressure detection or not.

I believe there are a number of us who are well aware of it and some did go and some didn't. I'm one of the latter.

I wish I could go, though. I really want to tap into that N950 whistling.gif

Just curious guys, any of you here use Firefox on your N900s? How do you guys find it, as in performance etc?

I'm currently using Firefox (Fennec) 7. It's OK for me so far but when it lags, it lags like hell =_=;;

That doesn't mean that there aren't any who still want it.

I'm guessing if nobody will continue to produce sliding QWERTY keyboard-equipped phones, N900 might be my last handphone, unless if by some miracle an N950 comes from heaven into my pockets sweat.gif
