sorry.. a bit off topic here

Is there a simple way to just restore 1 contact without having to jot all the details down and manually delete and add it back later?

so far, being on the cssu wasn't a problem at all... it has been more productive ever since thanks to the like of the devels such as thp. MAG and even some other devs that i'm not mentioning because they have been working on the MHD and others to make the global usage of it more appropriate and better.

CSSU now officially with portrait mode options. even in the applications launcher..

It basically portraits everything. Still a bit buggy at the moment but VERY promising...

Even rotating around the z axis promised by thp. I don't use that cause I prefer instant effects instead of fluid UI

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 22 2011, 08:07 PM)
Except the Desktop; It can't work in Portrait mode unless it's a separate Desktop configuration because of the flexible desktop design. In order to allow Portrait and Landscape orientation like Symbian, the widgets, buttons, need to be place inside a container or box, or fix sized, so that when it rotate to Portrait mode, it can re-arrange all the containers/box/buttons vertically, where as in Landscape mode, it will expand and re-arrange, just like Symbian.

I would not want to loose the flexible Desktop, which is why it's called Desktop just like our Windows Desktop, the orientation is also in landscape mode. BUT, they could always make it as an option, instead of being Apple like, only give you 1 choice  tongue.gif

Still the CSSU might consume more memory and cause the device to lags more, especially for those whom already have laggy device after jam-pack it with widgets on Desktop. The device crave for more memory and power.

On a side note, I tested the Mozart at DiGi centre; it's smooth and fast, like iOS, but very plain and simple, the calendar is just plain 2D white with simple table and black font, while Maemo looks way cooler, futuristic with nice gradient blue, etc. Nonetheless, the fluidity and smoothness is nice. Heard multi-tasking, copy-and-paste, IE9 mobile is coming this year, but multi-tasking might be something like iOS as they said something about "controlling" to prevent over usage of battery; Control is one thing, always allow options for advance users, is another thing.
Wondering about Flash, as the mobile IE doesn't support Active-X plugin due to security reasons? But Adobe announce there will be Flash for Windows Phone 7?  hmm.gif

I also tested the HTC Desire HD, not sure why, it's so darn laggy and actually hang/stop responding, maybe too many apps open or memory usage too high?  hmm.gif Give up touching it back to Mozart.
*
I agree in all that you have said. It's not the best thing so far, it does consume lots of battery at the moment, it is kind of buggy, and probably not the best portrait mode at the moment. It's still a major breakthrough though. I'm sure we'll see a more fixed version of it. Right now, even holding the phone in portrait consumes CPU.... I'm personally not 100% going to use this first due to the consumption... but conceptually very intriguing to me.

About other phones.... well, you always hear people talking about compromising something to get fluidity and like kick-ass UI. The one thing I'm NOT willing to compromise which I'm so pampered by the n900 is FLEXIBILITY - as you have mentioned very well already.

QUOTE(eilaz_niaz @ Feb 22 2011, 08:38 PM)
sms in potrait mode?
*
Yes. Even before this. Now it's just more fluid. Your conversations can autorotate when launched

The battery consumption is the killjoy part of the CSSU for now.
Currently I'm using the modified hildon desktop & some patched application file to enable autorotation.Gives roughly the same effect but without the heavy battery consumption.
*
oh? you mean it's EXACTLY like forced rotation too? whose patch is that? that's VERY interesting... care to share it? here and also in the CSSU forum?

Yeah.Something like what the CTRL + SHIFT + R do.
Forgot the exact location where I got it.I think it's from MuhammadAG repo.I'll try to upload tomorrow(bad connection in my home)
And no,it's not from CSSU.It's standalone deb files. What CSSU does is pretty much send these third party updates & combined it together as bulk & makes it as a group update.I just take some of it.
*
Oh? cause as far as i know... like I don't recall having any deb file that FORCES rotation on every app... many of MAG's patches allows rotation of things like status menu and modest but i've never seen one that forces rotation without pressing ctrl shift r... all must be manually toggled

thanks! if you can share it here! I'll gladly try it out

Only some application rotate automatically. Not all.
*
awwwwww...... but STILL!!! it rotates automatically without triggering the ctrl shift r? Do SHARE!!! You're really sifu la...

QUOTE(Andy214 @ Feb 22 2011, 11:57 PM)
True, the flexibility~
The best is, we have a choice, we can customize to make it complicated and useful, or keep it simple so it's smooth, etc. But, usually, we would want to utilize and very much customize it  biggrin.gif

Regarding portrait mode, many apps have portrait mode, but you can have option to turn it on or off, that's the beauty,  CHOICE for users, especially for people who don't have the rotation.
Some apps, I turn off the auto-orientation because it's quite annoying when it rotates, still prefer landscape view most of the time, and sometimes, when the phone is laggy, the auto-orientation can be quite problematic. Luckily, we have a choice =)

If only we can upgrade the hardware on this device.....
*
That's the keyword! CHOICE!! Freedom of choice!!! I can NEVER compromise that

QUOTE(Josh_M @ Feb 23 2011, 12:11 AM)
which remote db au using pls share..
*
Works with the nokia console:

Nokia MM9780S

Some other remotes work as well... but not all the buttons mentioned have the same configuration... you'll have to try most buttons to double check if they function as they are... but it DEFINITELY scares the shit out of my housemates!! KAKAKAKKAA

Added on February 23, 2011, 7:32 amwow!!! in less than a day, MAG already patched up some fixes to it! Trying it soon!

Added on February 23, 2011, 7:39 amnow the forced rotation functions are more seamless and works BETTER now... gonna try it for the day and check the power consumption... That's what I call REAL updates...

not like how... certain *ahem ahem companies do

Hm, don't know what makes it very expensive. I always make sure not to be connected to Maxis 3G.

get a dataplan package, safer nod.gif
we never know how the operator charge us and we are no way tracing it, their answer never satisfy, just switch operator if you feel being conned...too much cool2.gif
*
use the app dataplan monitor. It gives you an idea about how much data has been downloaded and when to stop... so, if lets say you subscribed to the 500mb 1 day plan, you can go ahead... surf, keep checking the dataplan monitor (which will be on your desktop) and make sure you don't exceed the 500mb mark. It can also be easily reseted in settings. It'll help you monitor your usage very well.. how accurate it is, i've yet to overshoot that limit ever since using it....

QUOTE(rifasha @ Feb 23 2011, 09:35 AM)
im downloading PR 1.2 version. last night i use PR 1.3 version. this is sad.
*
pr1.3 comes with many bugfixes.. you should try patching it. You can always revert to the previous patch if you're not happy with the latest firmware. Don't worry. thanks to the sifus here, a lot of the necessary instructions about reflashing with firmware is on the firstpage... if you go to youtube, there are even tutorial videos which CLEARLY help if you're afraid.

QUOTE(solsekuin44 @ Feb 23 2011, 09:35 AM)
Yeah, I was thinking to do the same.. =)
New package.

Hm, the app used to switch Astro channels, can't find it? Am still a noob sweat.gif

but my astro decoder doesnt seem to respond...guys i suggest u guys upload ur functioning remote to Database and giv it a unique name... i will download it from there...
*
OK... erm... I think I'd just put the steps here exactly

qtirreco>new remote>create remote>download remote>select alphabet>nokia>mm9780s

this is the exact step as I am typing... hope it helps... sorry cause I am not EXACTLY sure how to upload it into the debs.

I found this lirc.source... http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/nokia/MM9780S

Hope this helps you

Yes.. So cute, the graphics and sound are quite impressive.
*
Tried playing nfsuc.... very cool and the graphics seem to be uber smooth... sadly, I didn't repartition my drive and it's still 2GB only for software... Kinda lazy to do the whole leafpad>save to eMMC thingy... the instructions make it look to tedious.... and still stuck with the CLASSIC DrNokSnes which I can never get bored of... I'm like so into those consoles when I was a kid...

... but so cool that we can get those preenv games going like assassins creed and others...! you should share your screenshots!

AFAIK, there are some routers that are not compatible. This issue was discussed before in TMO.

Most probably your router is an old one? no?

Added on February 28, 2011, 8:21 amJust to update this forum,

the CSSU has had major changes since the 12.5 update of the CSSU. Most of the issues raised were fixed and there are some interesting additions made to hildon-desktop and hildon home. There is even portrait support for conversations via mods to the conversation themes.

I've been using it for awhile now. Even battery consumption seems to be a non issue now.. at least it has not been noticeably different compared to pre-CSSU.

However, do still take note that it's still in testing mode and 'flashing knowledge' is still needed before attempting to install it.

for official changelogs and information:

The talk thread:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=67905&page=152

The wiki:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU

The changelog:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Community_SSU/Changelog

EDIT: I encourage all the pros and sifus here to go and try to contribute in terms of bug reports, testing apps and maybe submitting patches to merge with mp-fremantle-community-pr to make things better. Since this is the only encouraging update to our lovely device which was long ago abandoned by it's creator. The people who are managing the CSSU have even gone to the extent by saying 'they do not want any form of cash contributions (i assume only for the time being) because they just want developers and users to help in terms of making the CSSU better and more stable.

Talk about genuine interest in making things work.

We are EFFICIENTLY self-surviving. I love it

QUOTE(mashimarow @ Mar 12 2011, 07:05 PM)
you should treat N900 as a mini computer with phone capability, so it's phone function is sucks, but it's capability to improve is unlimited.

Nokia officially discontinue production, which could mean they also stop upgrading N900 firmware(there are talks about upgrading N900 to Meego) but we have maemo community, you should have see people mention about CSSU which is a firmware upgrade by 3rd party community to pro-long N900 life (yes, they make N900 in portrait mode!).

Not only from CSSU, there are people who skill in Linux actually rewrite the virtual keyboard to key in chinese word which was lacked and demanded since the beginning. The program was released 2 days ago.

Just now I scoop around maemo community and find someone actually modify ovimap to have speech capability!!

So, you want to buy N900 or not is depend on you, if you need a phone with ease of use, you can choose fruit phone, you need a phone with lots of support , you can choose android phone.  if you are an adventure type who like to learn programming/altering/tweaking your phone, N900 is the one and only  rolleyes.gif
*
I second this opinion as in the n900 is still very much alive thanks to the community and the CSSU which I've personally tested and really enjoyed. The phone is very much like NEW again thanks to all the upgrades it has been getting. Though I know why some people wouldn't take that as a solid excuse because it's not officially supported by the company itself which to me STILL IS a big issue.... but i do hear good news about Nokia porting Meego to the N900 but that still remains as a rumour nevertheless (not that we need it since the community is ONCE AGAIN doing that for us).

Ovimaps does have speech!!! actually tried it but felt the speech person was really interesting. I always travel with my girlfriend... so never needed the voice navigation.. hehehe. but i do believe many will enjoy that feature.

QUOTE(PeaceOfMind @ Mar 12 2011, 08:34 PM)
haha yea n900 is still my dream phone~ seems like meamo is still on going, correct? so i will get my n900 asap lol. thanks for all the advice!!! will start to learn how-to-use after i got it smile.gif  (well hope still have stock..........)
*
That's right. Something that I learned almost immediately... i HAVE to learn! and I enjoy tampering/modifying/figuring out/reading all about how to change and make my N900 different!

QUOTE(earlgay999 @ Mar 13 2011, 06:22 PM)
Anyone know how to use the qwerty keyboard for playing webOS games?
*
if you installed it using the latest webos games manager, the creator divan is still trying to figure a way to get the keymappings right as how it was done when you used preenv. IF you follow the preenv settings/installation via TMO properly, i think the keyboard should be fine...

been a while since I visited the forum... just to mention,.... the E7.... turned out to be disappointing hardware wise.... 256MB ram still??? gimme a break man...

Docs To Go Premium - if you're willing to pay for it

For Free - Freoffice or Koffice (either name) it has slightly limited but still editable spreadsheets, docs, and ppts...

Abiword - Free doc editor and very comprehensive and almost debian like. Very nice. I prefer this to the Freoffice version... only sometimes there are some rendering issues when zooming.

Gnumeric - Free spreadsheet editor. Almost exactly like openoffice or excel. No complaints besides some lag issues.

it's confirmed that pecan is in works right now. Can't use it

Haze is working just fine. Just disable/enable each account. Haze allows you to be signed in anywhere.. not pecan. But pecan uses less CPU apparently
