are SATA ports 2~5 being used in Acer 5750G laptop?

it seems if it is just using ports 0 and 1, then it should be fine.

Well, to play safe then don't buy laptop that is just released or the chipset. I heard normally 1st batch got issue, which mean 1st batch user were kind of like white mouse to them.

"Q: I have a 6-series chipset in my system or notebook, is it safe to use?

A: Intel and numerous OEMs say that since the problem should occur over several years and only to a fairly small percentage of systems and notebooks, the risk of data loss is nil. If a port goes bad, you just move it to a port that works and the data will be there, Intel says."

hopefully Acer gives out extended warranty biggrin.gif

well, it's still safe to use, since data is not compromised...

the only problem now is wat's the stand of the OEMs...in particular, is it covered after warranty expires...

if they extend my warranty to 3-4 years it will be good enough.if they want to replace the whole system it will takes some time.
they might want ur old system back they processod it for some time before issuing a 'replacement' system.

Unfortunately, all Intel 6 Series chipset are affected, including HM65. But according to one of the articles I read, most laptops won't be affected because there are no problems with port 0 and port 1 and most laptops only use 2 ports, unless of course, they use port 2-6.

But to be on the safe side, better not buy any laptops for now.

after going through all the page... it still didnt mention the solution? theyre going to replace only?

if it really design flaw they have to redesign?

or just the material of the chip?

solution is to replace the mobo with a revised chipset...

Intel has already redesigned the chipset and is in the process of changing it's production lines to manufacture the new chipset... the first batch of the new, revised chipset will roll out by the end of February...

it's got nothing to do with the material of the chip, rather, it's a design oversight (so to speak) on Intel's part...

They are not sure if they are gonna replace it cause if they replace them they will suffer a loss of around 700 million US dolalrs...read from an article.

Right now intell is producing a new chipset version of the i7 to replace the old one.

The flaw of the chip is the material....the silicon.

techincally, it's a core-logic bug in the chipset which "requires a silicon fix" (ie hardware level correction)... dun read anywhere that's got to do with material...

and Intel is willing to pay the OEMs for replacing the mobos... Samsung has already offered to replace it's laptops with Cougar Point for free... that's six models in Korea and 1 in the US...
