port 2 in on ATAPI device (DVD drive)

at least hard disk is on port 0.. so not affected

sad.gif so one day my dvd drive will stop working..

it really depends on how it's configured by the OEM... on my laptop (PM45), it's Port 0 for HDD, Port 1 for DVD drive, and Port 5 for e-SATA...

it's not really that simple...

the issue now, as far as end users are concerned, is if the OEMs would recall the laptops, and if not, wat re they going to do if the mobo spoilts after the warranty...

Excatly. Unless maybe for example Acer give 3 years warranty and the mobo spoilts in 2 year than can get a replacement maybe. tongue.gif

not so simple again... Dell only offered 1 more year of warranty to cover GeForce 8M on top of the original warranty (ie if u ve 1yr warranty for the laptop, ur GPU is covered for 2yrs in total), and nothing after that... to date there are still quite a number of ppl who re still using the original XPS and Inspiron with GeForce 8400M GS, and they are already over the extended warranty...

seldom u see OEMs like BenQ who is willing to cover the GPU indefinitely...

an as far as i can remember, Acer and Asus kept mum during the GeForce 8M issue...

so depending on the OEMs, the outcome may be different too...

again not so simple as well... u never know how long it takes for the port to fail... it can be 1yr, 3yrs, 5 yrs, or never...

the key is wat's the OEM going to do after the warranty is over... doesn't matter if u ve 1 or 3yrs of warranty...

Hi guys,

was browsing through notebookereview forum and found this piece of information.

http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/pro...set+gg_headline

It seems that i7-2630QM is not affected.

What do you guys think?

the CPU is not affected at all... and Intel has reiterated again and again that the CPU has got nothing to do with it...

it's the chipset that goes with Sandy Bridge CPU that is the problem...
