lol had a hard time understanding it... but i think the jupiter.xml thing is the one responsible for the AGPS processing, logging blah blah blah and that the stock jupiter.xml is not properly coded for practical use...

The file I downloaded from the link is not working, can't install at all. TS can remove it already.
*
Shouldn't be. Go to: Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All. Then find Market. From there, click clear cache and force stop. Now try installing the z4root.apk again. For all of your hanged app installation, can cancel download and re-download.

Nice find! From what I understand
- stops the stock glgps_samsungJupiter daemon (in linux it is called daemon. In windows, they call it background service)
- rename it to glgps
- edit jupiter.xml for optimizations
- put all the files back to the phone
- start the new daemon, the glgps and invoke the new jupiter.xml and 'job name

Then he goes on showing what modifications he made to jupiter.xml I think the att version -s tweaked from AT&T captivate, google version is tweaked from nexus s, control-plane, I don't know.

Obviously he still need to do more tests to see which settings will give the best gps performance. One word of caution, If you guys want to try this, please backup your files first

Must be rooted. Open terminal emulator
.
CODE

$ mkdir /sdcard/gps_backup
$ su
# cp /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter.bak
# cp /system/etc/jupiter.xml /system/etc/jupiter.xml.bak
# cp /data/gps/secgps.conf /data/gps/secgps.conf.bak
# cp /system/bin/gpsd/glgps_samsungJupiter /system/etc/jupiter.xml /data/gps/secgps.conf /sdcard/

Or use root explorer if you bought it. But need to set permission to all three files when you have to restore to the original one I think. Renaming the files from .bak file is safer. From this command, you have two sets of backups. One, the .bak files which retains the files permission. The second set is in the internal sdcard under gps_backup folder.

I suggest using adb if you want easy cut-and-paste the commands. Or just use chrome-to-phone to copy the commands to the phone's clipboard wirelessly.

In other news, I tested super-optimized kernel for overnight testing last night. From 2.00am-8.30am, only drops from 98% to 94% (less than 1%/hour drain) I had battery-fu to switch off all data and wifi from 12-6am and switched on wifi for every 30minutes for 2 minutes after 6am. I also have underclocked the cpu using xan's voltage control app. I'm getting better idle battery life using undervolted SOK than speedmod (1%/hour drain)

Just installed darky's 9.2 Extreme Edition.
Performance is fast compared to stock, have not installed voodoo lagfix yet.
Just wanted to post to help other noobs like myself who have never installed a custom rom before.
I did not use odin.
1) Go to market and type speedmod, you will see the one click install for speedmod. Install it. This will give you CWM (if you dont know what CWM is its like recovery 2e)
2)Next just go to recovery mode (volume up + home button + power) and make sure that the speedmod is disabled. Its under the lagfix option.
3)Now go to XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091) and download the file under the heading
Normal CWM Version [just as usual]
4)After done downloading load it to root of your internal sd
5)Rename it to update.zip
7)Go to market and type darky. Download the darky configurator. Run the app and configure the way you want.
8)I chose voodoo in the darky config app but have not run it yet
6)Shut down phone and go to recovery mode and go to the option "apply sdcard:update zip"
7)Let it install and there you have it Darky 9.2 extreme edition.

note 1, I had superuser before doing the above (forgot how i got it), not sure if necessary.
note 2, I said install the speedmod one click from market, dont worry about choosing either voodoo or speedmod in darky's config later.
note 3, I was running stock DXJPE with all lagfixes DISABLED before I started.
note 4, All contacts, messages, apps will be deleted so BACKUP before starting.

Hope I have not missed out anything.
My market could not download after installing Darky, soulution - go back to recovery and wipe cache.

Update, quadrant score with voodoo lagfix disabled - 1188.

1st gps lock took me around 5 to 6 minutes, then the rest of the time is almost instant, i tried locking in 2 secs... but really rare la XD

i tested it with a silicone case on... SGS gps antenna works fine with a casing, unlike DHD (muahahaha biased me)

Thank you so much for your help. Knocked out yesterday. Not try yet. Will do later.

Anyway I saw engadget mentioned that the new Android Market Website doesn't not work with Rooted Device.
Is like a jailbreak iphone 4???
Is it possible for us to unroot our device :-p

no prob...

good luck going into the dark side...

its possible to unroot, easy enough, our SGS can be unrooted just by flashing back a stock firmware with the stock kernel... Odin's the way to go

For junior SGS owners, i still recommend using darky's resurrection edition, which is to flash thru odin, its really the best and easiest way to get an error free custom ROM on ur SGS (from what i think that is, coz some if ur on some ROMs and when u suddenly switch to another, it is prone to have some errors, i believe using Odin is the best way to go)
But bare in mind, do a backup first since flashing using odin will repartition the phone and u will lose important stuffs like ur apps, sms, contacts, etc...

Thanks, CrossX.

Lately, I encounter keyboad hangs and lag when typing Memo and Message. Hopefully after kernelling. The problem will be solved.
By the way, is Darky ROM USer interface is the same like Samsung Original??

No reason why web android market would not work with rooted and custom roms phones. Mine works fine. Those who cannot use it could be due to bad root or custom rom. Or it could just be some login issue.

What uncertainty? Starting from scratch by odin is of course the best way. This clean install will avoid many problems that may crop up. However, IMO cwm route is always the safer method.

Thanks bro for the prompt reply.
By the way, doesn't anyone experienced keyboard lag after flashing to custom ROM?
