Steve Jobs " malu" to say it . At just 256 MB - it is horribly low. when I tested the multitask features with the new ioS4.2 - it does not work too well either - works only with apps that support it. I find that still need to JB it to have better multitasking but than with such a low memory - you still need to close some apps. I was expecting at least a 512 MB ram for the ipad2 - some pundits predicted 1 GB - my were these guys disappointed with such high unrealistic hopes
Anyway ipad2 good for new users to start off with if they want an ipad. Forget about the original ipad. Msian prices,  lastnite all present ipad models price cuts across at RM 400 less. OUch !!! real pain for those who just bought

If you want cheap, go for iPad as mentioned above by bro Bassist...
if you want portability, go for Tab 1 due to its 7"
If you want to wait, go for Tab 2... lolz

Uncle Benny, where do you get the info state that RAM for iPad 2 is 256MB? I can't find any source mentioning that.

I have been testing on this ;  just for fun. My findings ( not necessary true as I am just as noob as others ) :
I find the best way to completely have a fresh new stable kernel is to reflash back to RFS fs , factory reset, than only install new ext4 based kernel
*
okay... so the procedure will be:

1) flash back to RFS based (using MoDaCo RFS based kernel?)
2) Fire up the device and do a factory reset
3) Flash to your desired kernel (be it OC or MoDaCo)

is this correct?

actually, I wonder if there is really a need for Flash support for mobile device?
For me personally, I don't really browse much website with tons of flash....
so I don't see a need for that...

but then, out of the 3, I will suggest you to get Tab 1 or wait for Streak 7....
cos it offers much more portability and pocketable!!!

as for iPad, seriously, I will actually sees it as an entertainment device that can be carrying around at home....
I won't carry it around in town when i go for shopping, having dinner...
cos whatever iPad can do, Tab can do it as well while offering portability where you don't have to carry it on your hand or bring a bag or something....

Of cos, unless you are talking about the games on iOS then there is nothing much to argue for...

I prefer flash using Odin 1.7 to RFS rom eg JME - repartition, PIT, PDA . I have tried flash to RFS Modaco but still have issues on temperatures out of control

As Sherlock Holmes used to say, " My dear Watson, it is elementary deduction". The official specs listing did not mention RAM size at all unlike the first ipad. If there is any increase in RAM don't you think Steve Jobs will capitalize on it to mention it. Worse of all, it is quietly kept out , not listed at all in the official specs. RAM is an important specs - why is it left out ???
Someone please prove me wrong

OMG - don't tell me it could even be lower than 256 MB ???? !!!!

lolz... yeah, I do agree your way of analyzing it...
It is really not Steve Jobs' not to mention the RAM increment if there is any... and he will even make it sounds like Apple's RAM increment is so revolutionary as if there are no other companies has done it before... biggrin.gif

okay... I never use the GSC ticketing epayment before (cos my town doesn't have one!! vmad.gif )
so i didn't aware of that.
So far we don't have much details on Streak 7's pricing so can't help you with that...
as for Tab 1's pricing huh? Yes, definitely you can wait if you are not in hurry. haha...

seriously speaking, I must say that Facebook apps on iOS is better polised than Android....
But on the other hand, we can play FB Flash games on Android!! though I don't really play facebook much...
so, sorry can't help you much... just know that we can watch the video on facebook through the browser but not the Facebook apps if I'm not mistaken...

overcome 1.2 comes with his own kernel which allows overclock to 1.4ghz. No need to install any other unless you wish to try

Added on March 3, 2011, 8:56 am
You just need to flash modaco kernel over it will overwrite. But basing on my experience is not wise to do so as some older kernel files are not fully deleted could cayse some issues

Uncle Benny

Mind sharing the result which you have achieved when SGT is overclocked to 1.4ghz? For eg battery life, stability and etc? And I would appreciate your recommendation in terms of stability, to overclock it to 1.2ghz or 1.4ghz. My main concern is to play some 1080 Videos on SGT

If it is genuine output 1000mA it will work. There are just too many fakes and imitation of car chargers in the market now.
The TAB needs minimum 1000mA . If you want to be safe, just get those that can change the ipad - sure can work or find those with output 2000mA . The latter even generic cheap - about RM 30 to RM 40 only. Better quality be prepared RM 100+

I did not really test OC to 1.4 Ghz. I tested it few hours on Richardtrip kernel - the higher temperatures were a distraction, though it is said to be safe. There are several users in this forum on it. Just trace back the posts and ask them
Frankly I am not comfortable with such a high O/C and since I don't play games I don't really need such a high O/C

I am now on Overcome 1.2 and set it to 1.2 GHz - this is just an academic exercise only to assess the stability. So far very good, no major issues. Temperatures are reasonably just slight higher than stock 1.0 Ghz

Charging using AC : 37 to 38 degree
Standby not used : 30 degree
IN use - browsing, email, RSS , etc - 33 to 38 degree

Voltage controls : I left it as set by Overcome's rom - I noted he has reduced the values from default

I also use SetCPU to control my battery life - it is very good tool. I find is better than using those apps that supposedly helps on battery life
These are my settings:

On boot : Max 1200 MHz Min 600 Mhz - On Demand
My Profiles: All set to CONSERVATIVE

Battery < 33 % : 800, 400 : 95 %
Temp > 42 degree : 600, 400 : 100 %
Screen off : 600, 400 : 80 %
Charging AC : 800, 600 : 80 %

Overcome updated rom expected end of today ; his change log listed below
You will now have option to have stock kernel or one with OC options
I think his honeycomb animation is the same as the one I posted previously
However I don't quite like recovery to use internal SD - what happen if it is corrupted ?? Leceh only - have to reflash Modaco kernel to use ext sd card
Those who has used the Galaxy S before will notice, he is implementing Voodoo Lag Fix - sound good , this should boost the performance considerably
Anyway look forward to updating to it :

QUOTE :

Version 1.2.1
Overcome Kernel 1.1 included (Standard, Non-OC)
Honeycomb boot animation
Updated Maps to 5.2.0
Updated Market to 2.3.3
Updated GMail to 2.3.4.1

Kernel changes :
KERNEL CHANGE LOG
Version 1.1
Available in two version - Standard and 1.4ghz OC/UV
Clockworkmod Recovery 2.5.1.8
Recovery uses internal SD rather than external
Further tweaks to kernel source
More compiler optimizations
Voodoo Lagfix (much cleaner implementation of ext4 than what is currently used)
Rebuilt initramfs

Benny, adamking doesn't hv stock for car charger. On his thread he mentioned the tab draws 1.68A. so in order to get charged as good as home charger, it need at least that much. if lesser, no charge or slow charge. I think if less then 1A sure no charging. I'm going to get a 2A one then

What mail app are you using ? Most mail app will have settings to allow settings on how you which to be notify - thro tones, notification on top bar, vibrate etc

I don't use the default mail or android mail ; I use only K9-MAIL which I consider the best with so much added features

I removed all mail notifications even on default GMail and Yahoo app mail - find it irritating as I get lots of mails from these 2 accounts - mainly subscription and LowYat forum threads update

1000mA will work - previously I uses one ( McKay brand ) but is expensive, cost me S$80 bucks. It charges the TAB, iPad , dell Streak ( which also needs minimum 1000mA ) very well . Not slow at all. But better get a 2000mA unit, you have more flexibility and can use for other high power devices too

My point is.. U need expensive or branded 1A charger for it to charge but probably a cheap generic 2A should work, right?
