no more galaxy tab in maxis website...

except the promo one, used to be in the devices section

guess they have the insider news of the upcoming SGT 2 and thus ditching SGT for now? But it's somehow too soon to ditch SGT before SGT2 releasing date is yet to be confirmed right?

Nevertheless, for me, I'm happy with my SGT right now... as long as it gets to Honeycomb, official or unofficial, I guess I will just stick to my current Tab instead of going for SGT 2.

PSP2 (Codename: NGP) is on my wishlist of this year by the way. smile.gif

yeah me too.. looking at the road map for the processor if thats true, within 1 yr there will be so much upgrade and replacement.. think gonna wait a bit.. or else the wallet will dry up too fast and outdated so soon..  blush.gif better wait a bit..

yeah indeed. I guess with our current SGT specs, it should be able to last us till next year end until the price for those High Ended gadgets with the above mentioned specs to be affordable for us common folks with so little penny.
besides, there's usually aint no solid benefits to be an early adopter for high ended gadgets except for self-satisfaction. Cos usually when one high ended gadget appears in the market, usually there will be so many other similar devices come into market with competitive price. Then there begins the price war. Just look at our Tab with the upcoming Tablets.
So, patience is virtue icon_rolleyes.gif

a quick question

Which one is better?

OC Rom or Modaco Rom?

Also, does changing to EXT4 really increases the device speed by a lot or just minor that can be hardly noticed?

Am thinking of flashing my Tab after sticking to Stock ROM since my 1/12/2010 purchase...
thanks!!

Call me 0132288833 and describe what you did

Added on February 18, 2011, 8:47 am

Both are equally good but you need to have default rfs fs converted to ext4 filesystem first. You wobt go wrong using either one.

The speed difference using ext4 is obvious
Install modaco ext4 at sametime install recovery function which is useful to flash new roms, complete backup n 100% successful restore. Keep a working nandroid copy and you need not worry experimenting with kernel n rom as modaco recovery feature is fantastically good.
*
Thank you...
but according to Modaco's XDA thread, it seems the latest ROM has RFS --> EXT4 conversion bundled together, so does that mean I can just flash my Stock ROM RFS based directly with MoDaCo ROM?

You can install this Modaco rom only through using a RECOVERY MOD program. The Samsung default recovery I don't thinlk allows you to do it. Unless you have already installed either Kousch recovery or Chainfire recovery mod - than you can use these tools.
When you do a Modaco EXT4 conversion, only will the Modaco Recovery is installed same time
*
thanks.... so I guess I should do the following:

1) Download the EXT4 TAR file and Flash my File System to EXT4.
2) Make a Nandroid Backup with the installed ClockWorkMod from Step 1.
3) Download the MoDaCo's ROM and save it on the root of my SD card
4) Enter into Recovery Mode --> Wipe the Device --> Update ZIP file and wait for reboot

Is it correct with the steps above?

By the way, will the step 1 clean off all my data? Thanks

Make sure your external micro SD card has sufficient space left to do backup while the files are being backup and converted - I'd suggest at least 2 to 4 GB free space

Added on February 18, 2011, 11:06 am

1 . Download the right TAR file : there is one which convert kernel to R3 but maintain default RFS fs system while the other convert kernel to R3 and convert fs to ext4. Changing kernel to R3 will not wipe your data
2. The nandroid backup will backup fully your current rom with all its apps/data/settings - you can later use astro file manager to rename this backup file to something simpler and recognizable ; infact is  a good practice example i will rename it as 12febMOdacoR1revison3 , 11febStockrom, 11febOvercome112 etc etc. This nandroid backup is important just incase something goes wrong, you can switch off tab , go into recovery and restore back your original rom with its data

Step 4: It is good practice to wipe clean before flashing new rom - I always wipe data/factory reset, cache partition : These steps will give you a clean start and avoid issues brought about by older rom remnant files.
*
okay... thanks... now having clearer picture...
Just to be sure...
ClockWorldMod will only be installed upon changing of Kernel is it? Are there any Variants of ClockWorldMod out there for Tab? I'm afraid of getting a Recovery Mod Program that is not compatible with ModaCo Rom....
thanks!!

You actually have another option to choice if you want convert to ext4, use Overcome Kernel 1.0.
You can download from instruction guide provided by corodius, the link was contain "Odin3 v.1.7.exe" "Overcome_Kernel_v1.0".

thank you very much!!
but then, if in the future if I wanna flash to MoDaCo rom, do I have to flash the kernel again or I can just use the OC kernel since they both supporting EXT4?
Thanks biggrin.gif

overcome 1.2 comes with his own kernel which allows overclock to 1.4ghz. No need to install any other unless you wish to try

Added on March 3, 2011, 8:56 am
You just need to flash modaco kernel over it will overwrite. But basing on my experience is not wise to do so as some older kernel files are not fully deleted could cayse some issues
*
huh... so there is no way to completely wipe off the kernel and write in the new kernel?
Sorry sounds noob cos didn't really know how these stuff works although had flashed a few devices already.. smile.gif

If you want cheap, go for iPad as mentioned above by bro Bassist...
if you want portability, go for Tab 1 due to its 7"
If you want to wait, go for Tab 2... lolz

Steve Jobs " malu" to say it . At just 256 MB - it is horribly low. when I tested the multitask features with the new ioS4.2 - it does not work too well either - works only with apps that support it. I find that still need to JB it to have better multitasking but than with such a low memory - you still need to close some apps. I was expecting at least a 512 MB ram for the ipad2 - some pundits predicted 1 GB - my were these guys disappointed with such high unrealistic hopes
Anyway ipad2 good for new users to start off with if they want an ipad. Forget about the original ipad. Msian prices,  lastnite all present ipad models price cuts across at RM 400 less. OUch !!! real pain for those who just bought
*
Uncle Benny, where do you get the info state that RAM for iPad 2 is 256MB? I can't find any source mentioning that.

I have been testing on this ;  just for fun. My findings ( not necessary true as I am just as noob as others ) :
I find the best way to completely have a fresh new stable kernel is to reflash back to RFS fs , factory reset, than only install new ext4 based kernel
*
okay... so the procedure will be:

1) flash back to RFS based (using MoDaCo RFS based kernel?)
2) Fire up the device and do a factory reset
3) Flash to your desired kernel (be it OC or MoDaCo)

is this correct?

i just wish iPad have flash supported so i dont have to think so much >.<

actually, I wonder if there is really a need for Flash support for mobile device?
For me personally, I don't really browse much website with tons of flash....
so I don't see a need for that...

but then, out of the 3, I will suggest you to get Tab 1 or wait for Streak 7....
cos it offers much more portability and pocketable!!!

as for iPad, seriously, I will actually sees it as an entertainment device that can be carrying around at home....
I won't carry it around in town when i go for shopping, having dinner...
cos whatever iPad can do, Tab can do it as well while offering portability where you don't have to carry it on your hand or bring a bag or something....

Of cos, unless you are talking about the games on iOS then there is nothing much to argue for...

I prefer flash using Odin 1.7  to RFS rom eg JME - repartition, PIT, PDA . I have tried flash to RFS Modaco but  still have issues on temperatures out of control

As Sherlock Holmes used to say, " My dear Watson, it is elementary deduction". The official specs listing did not mention RAM size at all unlike the first ipad. If there is any increase in RAM don't you think Steve Jobs will capitalize on it to mention it. Worse of all, it is quietly kept out , not listed at all in the official specs. RAM is an important specs - why is it left out ???
Someone please prove me wrong

OMG - don't tell me it could even be lower than 256 MB ???? !!!!
*
lolz... yeah, I do agree your way of analyzing it...
It is really not Steve Jobs' not to mention the RAM increment if there is any... and he will even make it sounds like Apple's RAM increment is so revolutionary as if there are no other companies has done it before... biggrin.gif

i am not really into games and iOS things ...
flash quite useful well at least i can do a GSC ticketing epayment...
talking about the size i think i will prefer 10' is kinda small for me with 7'...how much would be streak 7 ? i dont really have high budget ... thats why wishing when tab2 is out tab1 will drop like iPad now tongue.gif

Added on March 3, 2011, 12:06 pmhave a question on the flash ... isit smooth when running facebook application ? and video streaming ?
*
okay... I never use the GSC ticketing epayment before (cos my town doesn't have one!! vmad.gif )
so i didn't aware of that.
So far we don't have much details on Streak 7's pricing so can't help you with that...
as for Tab 1's pricing huh? Yes, definitely you can wait if you are not in hurry. haha...

seriously speaking, I must say that Facebook apps on iOS is better polised than Android....
But on the other hand, we can play FB Flash games on Android!! though I don't really play facebook much...
so, sorry can't help you much... just know that we can watch the video on facebook through the browser but not the Facebook apps if I'm not mistaken...
