Hi all,

Newbie in LYF and smartphone market here. Wanna hear from you all on purchasing an HTC Desire Z.

Someone told me that Desire Z is tied by Maxis, and won't be available in HTC stores.
However, I happened to get a quote of less than RM1300 for a claimed Ori set (1yr warranty) from a phone shop (it's selling RM1050 for AP set).

Some questions from me ...

1) One of the phone dealers told me about the Maxis-tying thing, where it's impossible to get Ori set elsewhere in market. But I still can see lots of Ori sets sold (stating SIS warranty of either 1yr, 1.5yr, or 2yr). Which is the truth?

2) The price range of Desire Z is far too wide - Ori from RM1300 to RM2400, and even AP also from RM1000 to RM2200. Would it be any trap in there?

3.1) If I were to go to the abovementioned shop for the cheap RM1300 Desire Z Ori, is serial number or IMEI number sufficient for me to know whether I'm getting an Ori set or an AP set (through SIS site http://www.sis.com.my:8383/esvc/JOB/JOB0075.asp)?

3.2) Given that I could not access to SiS website at the phone store on spot, is there any other ways to check on the genuinity of the phone before swiping card?

4) I heard of variable versions of actual warranty on SiS Ori set. Duration ranging from 2yr, 1+1 (+1 for online reg), 1.5yr, to 1yr (1+1 was an expired promotion). I tried to contact SiS customer service, but received no reply from them until now. Could anyone enlighten me on that?

5) It was said that HTC decided to gave up on upgrading Desire to Gingerbread (http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/14/htc-desire-tries-to-catch-gingerbread-cant-keep-up/). Does it include Desire Z as well?

Hope you all won't find me annoying. Wish to get some opinions on these items. TQ!

I can't answer all since i didn't update myself with the price for so long but..

2) I believe 1.3k for ori it sound like a scam. Even my phone is AP but i bought it at 1.5k. That time the original price is around 2.2k-2.5k

5) Desire Z is set to receive gingerbread update. The link you mention above is for desire.

it is available from htc shops, no monopoly by maxis......in any case, it appears not popular, the few maxis outlets i asked all don't keep stock.....

the original set price from htc outlets is still officially rm1999 i think....but maybe can get a few hundreds off........

but 1 month ago, ap sets was quoted at rm1250......if it has dropped to about rm1000, it is very good value for money.......

Scam? Owh no ... then I might go for the range of 1400-1500 (Ori).
Btw, when was the 1.5k and 2.2-2.5k quoted?

Serious? I asked a few HTC outlets in LYP, and all asking me to get the phone from Maxis, as they're not selling Desire Z ...

it's not popular, so they probably decide not to stock.......especially when ap sets undercut them so much.......i would just get the ap rm1050 set then pay rm1800 for a 'legit' set.......

I don't remember how to use HTC's built in one. I'll offer a solution common to all Androids.

Download from market: Google Pinyin IME.
When want to input chinese word, change input method to Google Pinyin. When open keyboard, there's a circle with (EN). Press 'shift + space' to change it to (中).

Works with MultiLang keyboard as well.

no, i mean the notification will appear a circle (EN) when you open the keyboard.

Shift button is the uppercase button.
