2 and half years++, still using android 2.3.7, CM7 custom rom haha...use that because of damn stable, and battery life is still great. whatsapp + some FB + 30min+- calling, can last 2 days!

Hi guys,

I'm new to rooting android. I lost my previous phone and decided to get this DZ. First Impression, heavy and thick! I'm not the kind that chases latest phone technology, long as the phone works, I'm happy enough

But, I wana try to root my phone and I need someone help to explain bit to me on this as I read too much already and I have confused myself. It seems it's pretty hard to root this phone from what I read

Is there any kind soul out there that can help me with it? I promise won't be too helpless like baby but I just need to know the steps and guidance

From what I know so far :
My phone is 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 2.1 so I need to downgrade to Froyo 2.2 first
Then I can start root it and put in Custom Roms + others
I have no data in the phone yet, that's why would want to root it to try

or Should I just keep the stock 2.3.3 + HTC sense 2.1?
Wana root cos I want to Overclock the chip (yes I understand bit about OC'ing computers)

So anyone can help me? If can PM me ya

[GUIDE] Downgrade G2 (2.3.X) & DZ (2.3.X) & mT4g (2.3.4) & DHD w/ S-ON to Stock Froyo

read through the guide a few times before trying it out. also, check the md5 of the files to ensure you are getting the complete files!

there is still a risk of bricking during the rooting process, or if your Desire Z has a bad batch of eMMC chip, hopefully not!

as for ROM recommendation, ILWT CM7 still has my vote for cyanogenmod based ROM (the newer cm9 and above are not as smooth in comparison) Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 for Sense based ROM, or Virtuous G-lite for AOSP based ROM (it is based on the official G2 ROM)

wongmunkeong try to read through the guide, I can probably help you out, but I am a bit occupied till next Monday. assignments!
