The Warrior's Way (2010) - Good actions, not bad at all, but lacking of final battle.... thumbup.gif
John Wick (2014) - Very good for action fans.... thumbup.gif thumbup.gif the sound is good man.... thumbup.gif

Kingsman : The Secret Service (2015)

After Daniel Craig took over the role of James Bond, the spy movie genre has been missing a suave, witty and gentlemanly agent. Kingsman could be a replacement for that franchise. Let's see now; the agent is British, dresses well, kicks ass and has cool gadgets. Yup. Perfect match.

The movie has a good plot and nice pacing. The actors are fine for their roles and Samuel L. Jackson surprises as a blood fearing megalomaniac villain. What is a little unsettling though is the over-the-top amount of graphic violence depicted in this movie (church scene and the 'fireworks' towards the end). I would not recommend anyone under the age of 16 for this movie. It's not really a surprise seeing that the team behind it was the one responsible for 'Kick Ass' but they could have toned it down. Another note that I find jarring is the liberal use of the 'F' word.

Aren't they supposed to be classy, well mannered agents? Why the need to drop the 'F' bomb so much? Wouldn't it be more classy to show that they more words in their vocabulary to use?

There are some loose ends in the story that I feel were not tied up towards the end and the ending seemed a bit of a stretch. Apart from that, a nice addition to the spy action movie genre.

Kingsman - 7/10

While entertaining and very well done, it is without its missteps. I personally think the best part about the movie was the fight scenes. The ending was a little off-track, but given that it is a serious movie, it's acceptable. A good movie, but not overwhelmingly great.

Focus - 5/10

Started off promising, being sleek and "cool" (if you'd see pick-pocketing that way). From about the 25th minute mark or so then on, the movie went downhill. Lacking in plot and any real dialogue. Focus suddenly loses its own and becomes a love story with bits and pieces thrown in to the mix. Failed miserably on plot.

Focus (2015)

It has been a long time since I've seen Will Smith in a movie.

The last, I believe, was the fiasco called After Earth (2013).

Now, what is this movie about.

It's about CON baby!! CON is the name of the game.

Think of this as Ocean Eleven meets Now You See Me...

Got it?

No, Good!

Because you are going to be please with this movie.

Story is "clever" (okay I do see some loop holes).

May be a little too "clever" at times, but not so much that the movie falls apart.

Casting is great. It's been awhile since I see B.D. Wong, but alas, his role is... Nope, not gonna spoil it for you.

Okay, okay, this movie is all about misdirection.... I really don't want to say too much, because it will spoil it for you.

For those who are keeping score, I give this 4 out of 5 stars

Go watch it, because... just go watch it.

Oh, Mr Smith, Stop trying to make Jaden, "IT". Just saying...

As always, my Humble Two Sen

Chappie (2015)

The latest from Neil Blomkamp is Chappie. So far District 9 is the only movie that I thought was above average from Neil and Chappie does not change that opinion, sadly. I had wanted to like Chappie better but the movie just reminds me too much of some other movie. This made it kinda look like a rip off.

The storyline is fine. The acting is so so. Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver are merely going through their paces here. Nothing outstanding. The setting, well, Neil seems to like the slums of South Africa so there's really nothing to shout about.

Just minutes into the movie you will say, "Hey! Isn't this similar to Robocop? And isn't that Moose an ED-209 rip off?" The scouts are like Robocops and the Moose.. you get the idea. Here's a list of other movies that Chappie reminded me a little too much about:

1. Short Circuit
2. Transcendence
3. Avatar (the James Cameron one)

In a nutshell, Chappie is a story that tells you that being human is not the true measure of humanity.

Rating : 2.5 out of 5 stars.

From Vegas to Macau II (2015)

One of this year's CNY flicks. Going by CNY flick's standards, this one is just another face in the crowd. Nothing to shout about. Storyline is like an afterthought. Action scenes; well let's just say there's nothing you haven't seen before. It's more about Chow Yun Fatt playing off Nick Cheung with those comedic dialogue. At least it did not stink like some CNY flicks.

Chappie (2015)

Let's cut through the chase.

The Good

Director: Neill Blomkamp
Stars: Sharlto Copley (Chappie's mannerism is uniquely Sharlto Copley), Hugh Jackman (who would have thunk he could play such an @$$h0le)

The storyline, at least for the 2/3 of the movie play homage to Robocop (1987, Paul Verhoeven version) & Ghost In The Shell (1995). Outside of Paul Verhoeven, Neill Blomkamp is currently the ballsiest (is THAT a word??) director working in "Hollywood". The reason Hollywood is in quotation marks is because, this has a distinctly "unHollywood" vibe.

The Bad

Dev Patel is a pretty good actor. I just don't think he is the best suit for this role... The story is pretty "unique" for a Hollywood production, but at certain points, the "leap of faith" the director expects from the viewer, leaves me going... "but, but, but!" laugh.gif

The Ugly

I was gonna write that it was refreshing not to see the American Flag in this movie, but alas in the middle of the movie... *Sigh*. I do not agree with the Director/Writer's conclusion. Not necessary a bad thing. At least it challenges it's viewer to "think about it"

Conclusion

If you think the above is a negative review, it really isn't.

Go watch this. It is very entertaining!! 3.5/5

Chappie (2015)

It's a really fun movie to watch, a lot of funny and cute parts by Chappie. Story-wise... not too bad.. nothing spectacular.. Sharlto Copley is amazing, even only just as a voice-over.

But the ending was a little bit... meh... didnt like it.

6.5/10

Focus (2015)

Nice idea for a movie, not original, but well executed. Decent acting, the China-man bet scene was the best part of the movie.

Plot was rubbish, if even existent.

5/10

Am assuming you have read American review and you are having second thoughts...

Let me put it this way. This is not an American-centric movie, hence the negative reviews from the Americans...

just watch a thai movie, "Im Fine, Thank You."

i watch this movie because im a fan of GTH (the producer) and Ice preechaya (the female lead)

it's a romantic comedy. about an english tutor (pleng) help one of her student (kaya) to break up with her bf (gym) before she fly to US to work. but pleng ended up being threaten by gym to teach him english so that he can go to work at US n get kaya back.

it's very funny when gym learn english because he is very very bad in english, macam tak reti apa2, they need to start with ABC.. the learning process is very funny, its would be funnier if you understand thai language xD. romantic part is really good too.. but there are some unnecessary funny scene in the movie.

but overall i may give this movie only 8/10, because it's funny but this movie can't beat ATM errak error (but ATM was a comedy not romantic comedy..mang?but still from same director). that movie was legend from GTH!! xD

ps: ice looks like she gained weight but still pretty. and sunny looks... handsome!! T.T

Cinderella (2015)

Wow, no actual reviews yet?

I could have sworn the cinema was pretty full yesterday (Nu Sentral)

Or are you guys here too shy to admit that you have watched this!! tongue.gif

Permit me to stick my head out here.

I was bored, I actually had some free time yesterday and I went to watch and it is what you expect from a Disney Fairytale/Live Action.

Don't get me wrong. This is NO Alice In Wonderland (2010) (re-imagine by Tim Burton)

The script is very true to the Disney Animation Classic.

Kenneth Branagh is great. Everything he touches has an English sensibility, which is appropriate for this movie.

Nice to see Ben Chaplin (I remember him from The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996) opposite Uma Thurman and Janeane Garofalo. You guys might remember him from The Thin Red Line (1998)) in a big Hollywood movie again (As Cinderella's Father).

Lily James, I feel, "tried a little too hard". I think she would do the role better justice, if she relax a smidgen.

Richard Madden who plays the Prince looks familiar, for the whole movie I went, where have I seen him before, where have I seen him before and after doing a search, Robb, the Game Of Thrones!!!

Derek Jacobi plays a fine and ailing King and Stellan SkarsgÄrd a deliciously conniving Grand Duke.

Now for the reason I went to see this movie, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother. She is SO elegantly... CRUEL. Does she have no peer?! Alas no, as cruel as she is, I believe she had a hard act to follow... Namely, Anjelica Huston!!

I am not sure if you young'un remember, there is actually a Cinderella Live Action movie (sans magic), named Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998) where Anjelica Huston played the wicked Stepmother, and to date, she has NOT been surpassed in that role!!

Conclusion. This is a true adaptation of the Disney Animation Classic, Cinderella (1950).

There are no surprises, no twist and you know what happens at the end.

One basically watch this movie to see... how a pumpkin gets turn into a coach (And I do not mean a handbag!!?! laugh.gif)!!!

For the chicks reader, yes, the palace scene is great. And there are ballroom dance with all the bells and whistle (gowns, ballroom dancing, orchestration music etc). I am no expert but the Cinderella gown seems... "impossible" at times. In Green Lantern they had to CGI Green Lantern's costume... Does it mean they are now CGI'ing Cinderella's ballroom gown!!!?!

Oh! Almost forgot the wonderful Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother (Bib Baddi Bob Baddi Boo and all) ...

She is the goto "gal" for all the weird Hollywood movies chick character nowadays!! tongue.gif

Seriously, do I need to ask you to go see this??

Demonic (2014)

My planning to watch this movie is bad

I arrived late, the movie had already started for 15 minutes when I entered the cinema.

To top THAT off, I did not have any dinner b4, so I had to leave the cinema to get some grub...

Even then I guess the end...

The story is thin and does not make ANY sense....

A disappointment

My two sen...

Watched this on 1080p, just to see what I missed, and...

This is even worst with 2nd viewing....

cinderalla feels a bit rushed

they should have made the step mother kick cinderella and her step sisters throw cold water on her... at least

they can still make it a great movie even if they want to follow the original story, but to me they just missed the little things that makes a movie wonderful and memorable

Did a double feature on Oscar Isaac - the current golden boy of hollywood. With him in the next SW and Xmen, it pays to check him out a bit.
Inside Llewyn Davis - The douche bag you can't help but like.
Miss the chance to watch this on the big screen back then. With Coen brothers at it, it's an automatic must watch. You have no idea how and what the movie will takes you, lush cinematography telling the story of Llewyn Davis, who is a grade-A a$$hole to anyone who knew him. Each time he picks up his guitar and sing, you are taken in with his performance and kept you wanting to watch him no matter how bad he is as a human. It's a lot more straightforward and nothing complex, just good film making to showcase the awesome talent of Oscar Isaac and some insight to folk musicians.
A most violent year - Slow burner of a dilemma.
Couldn't get behind all the praise on the movie itself. Oscar Isaac's role easily can be given to any other good actor. Just felt his ownership of the role is not as strong as Llewyn Davis. Jessica Chastain on the other hand did a remarkable job as the wife with gangster ties while the husband insists not to have anything to do with it. It took a jab at the American dream and how much dilemma of moral it takes to achieve that dream. It's more or less the same type of movie like The Drop, that starred Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini.
Eagerly waiting to catch him next on Ex Machina,Alex Garland directorial debut.

I Fine, Thank You, Love You (2014)

I will admit that I am not Thai film movie connoisseur.

I do watch the occasional Thai horror movie or action movie, and it kinda stop around that.

Truthfully, I saw the trailer for this when I watch Cinderella and tickets are more cost effective on Wednesday so I thought, why not.

And it is pretty good.

Story straight forward.

Acting passable (I thought Sunny Suwanmethanon played a better Yim/Gym compared to Preechaya Pongthananikorn's more amateur performance as Pleng.)

And have to add, by Jove, Preechaya Pongthananikorn sure is PRETTY!! Though I have to complain that the makeup artist for the movie could not stop messing with her eyebrows throughout the movie!!

Some of the supporting actors also did a good job, being the comic relief (in a Rom Com!!?!) laugh.gif

And what sold the movie to me is the fact that you can feel, for all intent and purpose, how everyone one behind and in front of the camera for this movie, did their roles to the best of their ability and I really appreciate that!!

I find this movie a lot more enjoyable then the best comedy movies made by, lets say Singapore! Heck, I would go as far as to say, even compared with comedic works coming out of Hong Kong!!

Okay, this movie is not above toilet humor at times, and again I add, points are give for the genuine execution.

I will go on the record to say I have enjoyed this movie.
