Knight and Day. A breezily paced, very agreeable in tone action movie, with a few well executed action scenes, in particular the freeway chase has originality in how it's shot and fluidity in how it comes together, marred only by the obvious and rather shoddy CGI. Tom Cruise's introduction in this sequence is mindblowingly cool, and if it had been his first formal introduction in the movie, it would have probably been the best introduction to a character since Captain Jack Sparrow in the first POTC. Apart from all that it's all rather fomulaic and uninspiring, but I was entertained adequately.

John Powell gives us yet another great score in this. I just can't get enough of his percussive action cues.

Here's a taste:

devil
quite good for me.gave enough suspense and thrill.at the end of the day,the suicide case didn't get solved.i thought there might be something that could really link both events apart from the story but there's none.the plot twist works for me.i almost thought that ramirez was the real devil as he knows the story and works for caraway security.that old woman wake up from dead was scary.

i'll give it 7/10.could be higher if they could link up between those two events.

From what I understand, it is suppose to be a trilogy...

If the do make the 2nd and 3rd movie, maybe the loose ends you had pointed out would be answered.

Yes, I too enjoyed this movie

Hi Amygdalai and QuickFire

There is just no pleasing some people!! laugh.gif (I'm directing this at you Quickfire)

Yes, Green Hornet has some great pedigree (in terms of script writer and director)

Yes, I love Pineapple Express and Superbad

The thing about Green Hornet from a script point of view is how POINTLESS it is...

Seth Rogen as Green Hornet... Really, and don't even get me started on Jay Chou....

Maybe I'm too much a fan of Stephen Chow, who was originally slated to directed and play Kato

He left under a storm of creative differences...

2011 isn't started with a bang for me... sad.gif

Overboard (1987)

Ah, comedies from the 80s...

Back then Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell was the "IT" couple and Garry Marshall was a few movies away from Pretty Woman.

There is obviously chemistry between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Goldie Hawn literally moves this RomCom along and she does a good job. It's a pity that she's a racist in real life...

Kurt Russell is basically window dressing here!!

The kids did a great job as well.

Very self indulging piece and I have watch this a couple of time over the years...

I Am Number Four (2011)

Movie companies are now putting "interesting" stuff out before the cut throat summer frenzy.

Case in point putting Iron Man in 2008 in May just before summer!!

Now, Iron Man, this movie is NOT, and THAT IS NOT a bad thing!

My impression of this movie is like a movie version of Roswell, if you don't know what I mean, never mind.

I have notice Alex Pettyfer when he was only Alex Rider in the movie Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker. I remember back then I was saying to myself, wow, this kid can sell the idea he did all that (eg action sequence).

And in this movie... wait, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Story as mention above is NOT original.

As for pacing, I believe many a person [in the I Am Number Four Thread] had stated that the movie is slow. Personally, I didn't mind the pacing, it allow the viewers to see/feel things from John/I Am Number Four point of view so I was invested in the character. There was a spot before the much touted 15 minutes of action sequence, where I did find myself going, they are doing WHAT at this point in time, and have to emphasis, I only felt that in THAT in that ONE scene. And after the action sequence happen and it didn't matter anymore...

Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron looks good together, and I have always liked Timothy Olyphant.

Alex Pettyfer can sell the idea he can do ALL the action sequence.

In short I did like the movie, so much so I am actually thinking of getting the book to absorb more details about the story.

The second book is suppose to come out this year.

I really do hope that gets a movie treatment too!!

Oh, before I go, I just have to say, I LOVE BEAGLE!!! (Snoopy, anyone!! laugh.gif)

Ever After (1998)

Next to Princess Bride, I believe this is one of my most watched movie...

Drew Barrymore deserve some kind of award for her role here.

Also interesting this is Dougray Scott first feature film...

Interesting how he gets pass over for roles like Wolverine and James Bond!!

Retelling of the Cinderelle tales but with women power!!

I cannot find any fault with this movie

It is perfect as it is, acting, script delivery!

If you love a story driven drama movie with a dash of comedy, by all means give this a try!!

The Chronicles of Merong Mahawangsa (2010)

I rarely watch Malaysian movie period. The last Malaysian movie I had watched was $ellout. Something has to be said about the marketing for this movie, it had done enough to peak my interest.

I am pleasantly surprise.

Very surprise that with a budget of RM8,000,000 the amount production quality appearing on screen is staggering!!

Please do NOT compare this movie with USD100 Million movie. It is NOT a fair comparison. A more fair comparison would be to compare this with a high budget Thai or Singapore movie, and it does shine.

A word of caution, it is a pretty "bloody" (literally) movie. So might not be suitable for young'uns...

In short I found it entertaining, and from that point of view, it fares well.

For serious history buff, please note, if you don't pick it, you'll enjoy the movie better. (Actually, I did less history picking in this movie, compared to movies like The Mummy and Mummy Return!!)

And there as some blatant boo boos in the movie (please refer to spoiler)

There are certain scenes in the movie that is actually the throw back to old P Ramlee movies!! And THAT is NOT a bad thing!!

Impressive, IMPRESSIVE work KRU. More please?!

If you want a locally produce movie that is highly entertaining, here it is!!

World Invasion: Battlefield L.A. (2011)

Watched this on Wednesday evening and was total a zombie for the next two days... (old already... *Sigh*)

Please note that I really REALLY like Aaron Eckhart's works.

Notice him in Erin Brockvich (2000)

Always though he would make a good Thor.... Cest La Vie...

Okay back to the movie

Yes, if you play first shooter game and get nausea... this movie is NOT for you.

Think Clovefield (Not as bad), Paranormal Activity or last Exorcist.

Would like to add, the above are exaggerations, but you get the idea.

I'm never a fan of war movie. I usually avoid them like the plague. There are exceptions, namely Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

The reason I went to watch this movie is the war is with Aliens, not human and the Aliens started it.

This movie is exactly the movie Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise avoided to do, while they made War of the Worlds

I'm not sure if there are "persuasions" from certain quarters in American for movies makers to "justify" the wars that US is involve in.

On an international stage, the wars America had been involve in the past few years, aren't seen as "justifiable"

So, in short this is a feel good war movie?!?

It is entertaining, no question, just not sure if I like the "America can do no wrong" message being shove down my throat....

Bring medication for nausea and lozenges people.

Beastly (2011?)

Let's get what is on anyone mind, when they hear about this movie.

Can Vanessa Hudgens (ingenue??) act?

In a nutshell, NO!

She became popular in High School Musical 1,2, & 3. She and he ex-beau (Zac Efron) made headlines... because they were going out!!

This is suppose to be CBS Film and her vehicle to make it big and... it is a semi-dud...

Alex Pettyfer plays a passable beast

Neil Patrick Harris does what he does in How I Met You Mother

Mary-Kate Olsen, surprisingly truly, TRULY got her part down pat!!! (Witch)

Gosh, she EVEN looks the part!!!!! (*shivers*)

Watch this ONLY if you have nothing better to watch....

Sucker Punch (2011)

Mr. Zack Snyder makes me squirm...

He pushes my movie viewing comfort zone into directions I'm usually don't want to go.

So much so that I have to watch the scene even when I don't want to!!!

He did it, in 300. He did it in Watchmen. He does it in Sucker Punch

I did NOT read ANYTHING to do with this movie.

I'd read 300, when it was first published. I'd read Watchmen about 2 - 3 years after it was first published.

I avoided anything Sucker Punch like the plague because Mr. Zack Snyder makes me squirm...

I didn't know what to expect and the movie hit me like a runaway FREIGHT TRAIN!!!!

The visual! THE MUSIC!!!

Everything and ANYTHING to do with action, fantasy movie and video games, is reintroduce here, only Mr. Zack Snyder does it ON CRACK!!!

Lord of the Ring, I-Robot, Manga Anime, doesn't matter, he marinate them in crank and puts them in the movie and it IS AWESOME.

I finish watching this at 8:30 pm and I'm STILL processing the movie... in my mind... too much information... information overload... does not compute, DOES NOT COMPUTE... ERROR! ERROR!!!!!!

The Eagle (2011)

Wow, no one had reviewed this yet??

First thing first, this is NOT Gladiator (2000) nor is it Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Rome TV Series.

For lacking a better word, it has an overly more "independent" production feel to it!

Story is passable, and the weakness of the movie seem to fall on the shoulder of Channing Tatum.

The character needs way more acting chops then what is produced by Channing Tatum!!

The highlight though is Jamie Bell!

His "I can kill you with a stare" (otherwise know as "gosh I'm very constipated") look, works well here.

In a nut shell, this is a buddy movie (bromance??) and there isn't much chemistry between the two (Jamie Bell and Evan Parke had WAY more chemistry (King Kong 2005) then he and Channing have in this movie)!!

In Gladiator, what Maximus (Russell Crowe) fought for was VERY apparent to the audience, here not so...

A slightly above average movie

Rio (2011)

I'm drowning in work for the pass few weeks.

When it came to either choosing Rio or Source Code, I went for Rio.

Didn't think I could handle Source Code at this point in time... and I'm very happy I went for Rio!!

It has the ODDEST storyline (Think Brandon Fraser's George of the Jungle, when he called for Shappe) ever and it is fun Fun FUN!!!

The colours, the music THE JOY!!!

Twentieth Century Fox Animation has proven that they are offbeat (Ice Age anyone). I LOVE offbeat

You have no idea how much I needed this.

Cast is great with a few exceptions.

Not going to say who unless queried.

Would I recommend this to every Tom, Dick and Harry (or anybody with any names for that matter!!)??

The answer is a resounding YES!!!
