1. Black Swan

9/10 - Definitely a must watch and definitely one of the best movies in 2011 (and its still early in the year). Superb acting by Natalie Portman and superb portrayal by both herself and the movie itself.

2. The Fighter

8/10 - This movie definitely felt real. Nothing was over the top. Christian Bale was really good in this. Look at all the muscle he lost. haha... Marky Mark, though one of my favourite actors (he's not great, but he's okay) still gave his usual 'average' performance.

3. The Kings Speech

8/10 - Brilliantly told story. Well-paced. Not for those who doesnt enjoy long scripts and dialogues. Witty and serious at the same time. Who knew a movie about a stuttering king could be so good.

4. Fight Club (yes, i know, i slowpoke)

8/10 - Superb movie. It is fun in its own way. Slightly Mindf*ck. Great plot development. great acting. enjoyed every minute of it.

5. Youth in Revolt

7/10 - Your typical indie teenager movie. Michael Cera has become somewhat of an indie icon. With his usual role as a dork-ish guy in love with a pretty girl and goes thru shit trying to win her heart. A good and fun watch (if indie is ur thing). smile.gif

6. Date Night

6/10 - pretty sub-par and farfetched storyline. Tina Fey was great but Steve Carrell was kinda annoying. enjoyed this movie but didnt really laugh my ass off.

7. Brothers

7/10 - A sad, depressing and overwhelming movie. The emotion when Tobey Maguire got back from his ordeal was overwhelming. The mistrust, the depression, the hurt. Phew.

8. Hot Tub Time Machine

6/10 - Only worth for a good and mindless laugh. But Good laugh nonetheless.

9. Exam

6/10 - Could have been smarter and better in its presentation, but failed to deliver the killer twist.

10. Dead Poets Society

7.5/10 - It was great how the story tried and succeed in developing each character to a certain extent. It ticked all the boxes in the emotion department. Great movie, definitely.

Rango...MAGNIFICO definitely one for the cinephiles

Its a beautifully stunning animation. I love how detailed everything was.
Johnny Depp did a hell of a job with the voice over.

Here's mine. I don't think any one of them is truly great, but all of them at least met or exceeded my expectations, and in one way or another were notable for me.

War Horse
Haywire
The Grey
Men in Black 3
21 Jump Street
The Raid Redemption
The Pirates! Band of Misfits
Premium Rush
Moonrise Kingdom
Skyfall
*
War Horse - Felt this was a pretty good movie, good emphasis on the characters without really pulling the attenttion away from the horse.
Haywire - havent watch
The Grey - I have this but no time to watch just yet.
Men in Black 3 - not perfect or even great, but a superb ending to the trilogy
21 Jump Street - FUN
The Raid Redemption - not watched yet
The Pirates! Band of Misfits - not watched yet
Premium Rush - not watched yet
Moonrise Kingdom - not watched yet
Skyfall - not a bond fan, but found this pretty good

the reason I havent watch movies which arent 'blockbusters' is because I'm too lazy to DL them.

Recently (kinda) watched movies (may be old movies) - quick review:

Side Effects (2013)

Rating: 7/10 - pretty good movie with a decent storyline, I don't usually like Jude Law, but this one is an exception.

The Grey (2011)

Rating: 7.5/10 - Really good and quite real, loved the ending.

Gangster Squad (2013)

Rating: 5/10 - decent, tries too hard without actually achieving much.

After Earth (2013)

Rating: 3.5/10 - Craptastic, Jaden Smith can't act.

The Rainmaker (1997)

Rating: 7/10 - great story with good acting.

Warm Bodies (2013)

Rating: 7.5/10 - Cute and funny, pretty good as well.

If you read the The World's End thread here, there are viewers in Malaysia who enjoys it.

So To each their own.

like me. haha... I loved this movie. Even stated it is the Comedy of the year.

It just clicked for me, the booze, the friends, the fights, the mindlessness.

QUOTE(crazy_labelle @ Mar 2 2014, 10:15 AM)
haha, it was nice a movie...

but i have issues with collin farrel as a father
because his face is so badass, so the entire movie all i think about is that he would kill the child, or the mother, or his boss..
hahaha.. it would be best if Travers Robert Goff character played by someone else..

i'm not really a huge fan of mary poppins movie or books
but the song 'A Spoonful of Sugar' just stuck in my head for days..
so i had to download and watch mary poppins..

I am by no means a huge fan of poppins. But grew up wtching it.

Well Farrell plays a drunk pretty well.

300: Rise on an Empire (2014)

Highly anticipated (somewhat), but underwhelming to say the least.

Acting wasn't gripping enough, wasn't emotional enough, wasn't convincing.

3D gimmickry was painful to watch.

At least fights were still good.

5.5/10

Watched Mr. Peabody and Sherman last weekend.

And it was actually pretty good.

Fun, simple, a little messy on the plot, but it's a cartoon, it doesnt always have to make sense.

A good one for the kids (or the kid-in-you).

7/10

Kingsman - 7/10

While entertaining and very well done, it is without its missteps. I personally think the best part about the movie was the fight scenes. The ending was a little off-track, but given that it is a serious movie, it's acceptable. A good movie, but not overwhelmingly great.

Focus - 5/10

Started off promising, being sleek and "cool" (if you'd see pick-pocketing that way). From about the 25th minute mark or so then on, the movie went downhill. Lacking in plot and any real dialogue. Focus suddenly loses its own and becomes a love story with bits and pieces thrown in to the mix. Failed miserably on plot.

Chappie (2015)

It's a really fun movie to watch, a lot of funny and cute parts by Chappie. Story-wise... not too bad.. nothing spectacular.. Sharlto Copley is amazing, even only just as a voice-over.

But the ending was a little bit... meh... didnt like it.

6.5/10

Focus (2015)

Nice idea for a movie, not original, but well executed. Decent acting, the China-man bet scene was the best part of the movie.

Plot was rubbish, if even existent.

5/10

Lady Bird - 7/10 -
This one had a lot of raving reviews, and I understand why. Somewhat of an oscar-bait movie, very clean, meaningful idea/plot. I thought the mother's acting was really good. Nothing "wow" about the plot but executed very well to depict what suburban life is like for a troubling family.

Ninjago Movie - 5/10 -
Pretty bad, but still very watchable. It didn't live up to the goodness that was the first Legomovie and the plot is thin yet convoluted. Watch, but only when you have nothing better to do.

I, Tonya - 7.5/10 -
Very nicely executed interview-flashback style movie about the American Ice Skating legend, that is Tonya Harding, the first woman to land a triple axle in ice skating. The film was very well cast and Margot Robbie did an amazing job and I thought the whole cast did really really well. Superb acting.

Now You See Me 2 - 2.5/10
Rubbish.
