There has been a lot going on recently by users not being able to upgrade to Froyo, so I decided to write this guide.
Firstly, check your build number by going to Menu > Settings > About phone. Scroll down and search for the 'Baseband version' field. Is yours 1.15? If yes, read on.
1. Once you've confirmed that yours is a 1.15 unit, backup your data. There are many ways to do this, with apps like Titanium Backup, etc. There is no 'best' way to do so, so do it in your own way. Most of the data can be exported by the base apps into your SD card, like contacts.
2. Download this RUU right here and HTC Sync 3.0 here while you're at it.
3. While it's downloading, go to Settings > Applications > Development and turn on USB debugging.
4. Install HTC Sync 3.0 on your computer. Follow the steps in the installer to get it up and running.
5. Open the RUU on your computer and connect your phone.
6. Take a read at the readme and start.
Once you've done all these steps, you should be able to update your phone to Froyo without any problems.

1. How do you set an MP3 as your ringtone? Open Music > long press on the desired song> select 'Use song as ringtone' Or you can use an application call RingDroid which will allow you to cut the MP3 to use as ringtones/notifications/alarms, etc.
2. How to make MP3 appear in music player? Make the following folder/directories (all in small caps) in your SD Card and copy your MP3 into it: -SDCard>media>audio>ringtone -SDCard>media>audio>alarm -SDCard>media>audio>notification -SDCard>media>audio>music
3. How to make Video appear in Video Player? Make a new folder in your SD Card and put your videos in it.
4. How to put photos into contact so that they will be shown as caller/facebook identification? Please do be reminded you can't place contact pictures directly into the SIM card. Therefore you must export out all your contacts from the SIM to the phone before you can do so. These are the steps you can do: i. Press (^) to the apps menu, and select "Contacts". ii. At the contacts, press "menu" and you'll see "Imports/Exports". iii. Import all or select certain contacts to be imported to the phone. iv. Then go to gallery and select the picture, press "menu" and touch on "set as" then select "contact icon", and search for the contact that you wanted to assign the picture with.
5. How to put your own MP3 as ringtone or notification/sms alert tone? you can put your own mp3 file for your ring tones or notifications: create folder in SD card root folder - named by media/audio/ringtones for ringtones. create folder in SD card root folder - named by media/audio/notifications for notifications
Then change the Notification tone in Settings->Sound & Display->Notification sound Or you can use a free app called Tone Picker mp3. Create a folder on your SD card, pop your wildfired ringtones (mp3) in there and use the app to associate a tone. But it does not differentiate between sms and email. Or you can use SMS Popup. This allows you to allocate a different Tone for text messages.
6. How to install applications? Method 1 Press (^) and press on market. Search and select the application -> "install" Method 2 Download the application .apk file (and folder if necessary) and copy it into root directory of SD Card. Put a tick on Setting>applications>Unknown sources. Download a File Manager application from the market called ASTRO File manager and install it. Open ASTRO and install the .apk file appearing on the screen.
7. How to uninstall applications? Settings>Application>Manage Applications and select the application to be uninstalled.
8. How to use Alarm to wake up? Tab on the clock in the Home page and select the alarm clock. Set the time you want to wake up. Or you can use an application called "Klaxon" which has more features.
9. How to navigate the roads in Malaysia using GPS? You have to turn the phone GPS first. Go to Settings>Location and tick on "Use GPS Satellite". PapagoX5 Malaysia version works well on WildFire's 240x320 resolution. At the moment, other Android GPS applications such as Garmin, iGO, NDrive, etc either do not work well or do not work at all on WildFire.
10. How to conserve your battery? For a new battery, it is advisable to charge for 8 hours the first time and subsequently charge and discharge fully 5 times before it holds battery charge optimally. For everyday usage, the best way to save battery is: -Turn off background data -Only turn on wifi and mobile internet when needed -Keep brightness just under 50% -And kill off apps when they are not being used. You can look in About phone>Battery>Battery use and see what application is using the most battery consumption and you can cut down the application which consumes the most battery juices.
11. How to add your favorite contacts into your Home page? In your contacts under "Group" select favorite for that contact. Next, go to an empty Home page. Press on (+) in the empty Home page and go to "Widgets" and select the Widget style. Select favorites Group from the group drop down box. All your favorite contacts will appear in your Home page.
12. Where to get updated software and manuals for WildFire? Your phone does not come with a detailed manual. You can find it inside your phone or you can download it from here for your viewing on a larger screen from your PC: http://www.htc.com/sea/support.aspx You have to go to your choose your product window and select HTC WildFire. To download software and manuals for WildFire, you need to key in your serial no.
13. How do I switch off selected "always on" apps to free memory and battery drain? Select Advanced Task Killer from the apps market. It is free and you put it on your Home page. Tap it and it takes you to a screen which shows all the programs that are running in the background. Tick the ones you want to close and then KILL selected apps.
14. How can I save money on phone usage? At first it is awesome to receive instant emails, breaking news, facebook updates, weather updates, browsing internet, etc without wifi. After a while you'll find that you can get these information on the regular wifi internet/personal computer. One can easily use up RM10 a day or about RM300 a month using these features. The alternative is that you can turn these off and save a lot of moolahs; you can turn them on again anytime or when you really need them in emergencies. Click on (^) and go to setup. After the second or third screen (Internet Connection), uncheck "Mobile Network or Wifi" and check on "Wifi Only (Don't have a data plan)".
15. Why can't I see my SD Card in my PC when I connect my WildFire to the PC to install an .apk app by using the provided USB connector? First you need to install HTC USB driver (you can google for it or find it in HTC website) in your PC. After installing this driver, when you connect your WildFire to the PC through USB, your PC will be able to recognize your WildFire phone's SD Card as a new hard drive and you will be able to copy anything into your SD Card. Then you need to use Method 1 (see 6 above) to install the ASTRO File Manager before you can use Method 2 to install any .apk applications.
Please contribute more operational guide for beginners of this wonderful android phone as we go along.

I first want to thank everyone at UnrEVOked for what they’ve done. I’m posting this because the UnrEVOked post doesn’t really give any instructions. Its an easy enough root for the Wildfire, but I know I’ve been there before and even the simplest things can be tough if things aren’t laid out. So here’s a step by step tutorial for rooting the HTC Buzz (Wildfire).
Due to some bugs, Unrevoked 3.2 was taken down shortly after being released, but the updated version is now LIVE! So obviously we’re going to bring you a video tutorial on how to root the HTC Buzz (Wildfire)! Thanks to the guys at Unrevoked for giving us this simple solution to rooting the Wildfire.
If you’re rooting the Wildfire on Windows, watch this video first and then continue
If you’re rooting the Wildfire on Mac or Linux, you can start here. Windows users should only continue here once installing the hboot drivers as described above.

May I know how to check the CPU speed? I seem like already OC it.. but don't know how to check it.. I've the CPU tuner but seems like also cant see my current phone speed.. how ya? anyone could assists?
are u using setcpu for OC? if u did, the speed that u set in the first page of setcpu is the speed of ur cpu now..but of course, if u put it on demand, it would vary from the max to min... alternatively, open setcpu..go to info..scroll down till the time in slate category...ur cpu speed is the one with increasing in number..
DK Froyo can't use setcpu. Have to insert H.Jacob Kernel which may interfere the wifi hotspot utility. So, no OC at this moment. But, I wonder why its faster then Eclair. I am refering to orientation typing speed. Yes, no, OC, it's as good.
gratz on V4!! are u using setcpu for OC? if u did, the speed that u set in the first page of setcpu is the speed of ur cpu now..but of course, if u put it on demand, it would vary from the max to min... alternatively, open setcpu..go to info..scroll down till the time in slate category...ur cpu speed is the one with increasing in number..
I'm not using setCPU to tune.. I've download a OC 710 zip file from other forum and I install in the recovery mode.. But i don't know how to check the speed.. and the worst thg is.. my battery is drain so fasssssssssssst.. :'(
I cannot update it because my office don't have wifi, will update it after working hours. Share your experience if you already update to official release 2.2 froyo

i use this phone for nearly 1.5 month.. im using digi family postpaid, not on smart plan.
i checked my bill, they charged me rm90 for gprs which i never use at all.. i already disable the mobile network. i only use wifi for internet connection as most of the places i've been got wifi, furthermore im not using internet that frequent
i asked digi centre, the guy said eventhough i disable the mobile network, the phone will continue transferring some data from time to time as long as it has sim card in it.. meaning that it keeps on using the internet connection for update or sync (eventhough i manually off it).. he said it is one of the feature of smartphone that most consumers dont know about it
the only way to stop from overcharged gprs in my bill, is to: 1)subscribe smart plan (unlimited access), or 2)disable gprs (meaning i cant browse internet unless on wifi only, cant send or receive mms),or 3)change to non-smart phone
anyone having similar situation with me? or is that guy just bullshitting me?

Turning the data connection on or off
Turning your data connection off can help optimize your battery life. It can also save money on data charges. However, when your data connection is turned off, you may not always receive automatic updates to your email, social network accounts, and other synchronized information.
-From the Home screen, press MENU, and then tap Settings > Wireless & networks. -Scroll down the Phone options menu. -Tap Mobile network and uncheck for it.
BTW, I wanna ask, I rooted my WF when it's still @ Eclair (2.1). If I ever un-root it now, & upgrade to this Froyo 2.2, will the rooting process is as same as UnrEVOked3 v3.21 ?
those who want to update faster, set yr time into more to lets say 10pm instead of 10am... this is the one method i heard from the htc facebook fanpage, coz they won't update all of us simultaneously but portion by portion.

I think you need to go for Hard Reset. Backup your things first la.
I read once in HTC. But I can't find it now. But you can refer to this, because the steps are the same.
yeah better do a factory reset, maybe some old widgets installed on yr phone which not compatable with 2.2.. that why it crash... so just do a factory reset 1st... definitely got some apps crash with the system..
Please note that all data will be deleted from the HTC Wildfire as a result of this procedure. This process does NOT delete data stored on the microSD card. We recommend backing up all of your personal data before proceeding. 1. Turn the power off. If your HTC Wildfire is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it 2. Hold the Volume Down button 3. Press and release the Power button 4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock 5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button 6. Press and release the Power button 7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Wildfire. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.
Hm...I wonder this will also help to easy un-root our phone?

for those who are going to update, please make sure there is enough space on the sd card before downloading.better leave at least 100mb of space or else it won't install just some tips for you guys.

When talk about storage to upgrade to Froyo, are you guys talking about SD card punya storage or phone sendiri punya storage? If SD card, I have A LOT (altho I am only using 2 gig one). If phone sendiri punya storage, I only have 17MB.

I don't know why some of us can't update to Froyo lor. I'm sure that its not router problem or geographical location problem. I try with college WiFi also cannot.
i think the network provider don't roll out simultaneously, it will roll out update batch by batch of users, some get 1st, some get later... so we are those unlucky one who will get later...

do you guys realize that the fonts in 2.2 and some menu screens are smaller ? Like suddenly more fonts can be displayed inside one page. And the fonts are clearer than before ? I know it is impossible to increase the resolution of the screen. But do you guys realize that ? lol. Is it my eyes problem ?

using 2.1 b4 have a problem with sms full, did froyo have the same problem? I mean when in low memory sms receiving is delay and sometime not able to receive sms..can we move sms to sd like app?
i would stay in CM 6.1 first before unroot and update to 2.2 as i believed that xda guy will come up with better and stable rom based on the official froyo xD
With reference to your query, froyo update for Wildfire will be avaliable in SEA region tomorrow. Take the server limitation into consideration not all customer will get the notification once the upgrade is released. Therefore you may not be able to get the notification tomorrow but you may get the notification in the recent several days. Your phone will receive a notification of FOTA update when it is made available. Simply press OK to accept the update via a data connection such as Wi-Fi or GPRS/3G. After installing the update, you can confirm a successful update by confirming the Build number (From the Home Screen go to MENU> Settings> About Phone> Software Information> Build number). The new Build number after the update will be 2.24.707.1. Update: Android 2.2 update. Note:Please back up your data first before upgrading your phone. We recommend using a free Wi-Fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan to apply this update. If not, standard data connection charges may apply.
finally i successfully install froyo on my phone, but i felt it has a bit lag, is it because of the phone havent 'warm up' yet? or i have too much apps in my phone?

really? is it better i backup the apps, or dl again later?
and another question is: i plan to buy sd card tonight, is it better i make partition for it, one for apps installed, and one for mp3/picture/video etc? or it is not necessary?
Already update to froyo just now. Here my experience. -Weather widget will work at the moment, but it will become blank and cannot click update, that mean cannot work. -Wifi power is stonger. -Hotspot build in, thats mean you handcarry a wireless router. (please don't lunch it, it will deduct your account balance) -Move all the application to SD card. -Now you can set ringtone, media, alarm and notification on each volume.

When after update the froyo, the sms/mms still have it, but when I hard reset it, then all sms/mms gone.
okok tq btw when install they got like a auto sync of our phone to our sd picture so i think all the apps auto transfer to the phone when install to foryo so no need backup since all my contact apps are all there

After update will not delete all your data inside your phone, unless hard reset for it just what I am done just now
definetely, from watchdog lite, live wallpaper and htc sense use quite a lot of battery, maybe that why when we use other launcher, there is a significant battery improvement

i got the solution but dunno its work or not
1. You need to make sure that you enabled ‘USB debugging’ on your phone. 2. You need the Android SDK but I’m sure you have that installed by now, right? ;-) 3. Connect your phone to a USB port, open up a terminal window, and type ‘adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2’ (without the quotes). ADB is part of the Android SDK. This will enable the move to SD card option for all applications. 4. Go to the Applications menu in the Settings menu and move your apps to your SD card. 5. To restore this setting back to default type ‘adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0‘.
Can control the brightness, just press the button.
i used an app called Tesla LED, quiet nice...got widget icon, can press at d home screen and flash... got few features some more...SOS light, strobe light...

fuhhh lamak stock camera can finaly tap to zoom and capture pictureee and those logo like flash auto turn with animation when we turn our phonee :D so cute ahahahhahha
whatever la.. u still can sync the "weather" in yr acc & sync even if really cannot, use beautiful widget. Who still use HTC Sense anywhere when u use launcher Pro ^^
maybe no city added? sorry if my guess wrong! just go to people>menu>import/export>export to SD card>then choose "google" assuming you had google account
if yr contacts are all saved in phone, want to back up, choose "phone"... if yr contact are all saved in google account, choose "google".

HTC Wildfire customers can now benefit from Android 2.2 improvements :
•- tethering i.e. get your 3G signal on your PC or lpatop routed via Wi-Fi or a USB cable.
•- speed and reliability enhancements
•- an improved camera app
•- improved Bluetooth functionality
•- apps can be installed on the Wildfire's SD card
Here my experience. -Weather widget will work at the moment, but it will become blank and cannot click update, that mean cannot work. - Sms widget also didn't work after jlik2929 face this problem too. -Wifi power is stonger. -Hotspot build in, thats mean you handcarry a wireless router. (please don't lunch it, it will deduct your account balance) -Move all the application to SD card. -Now you can set ringtone, media, alarm and notification on each volume. -Touchlight now with htc logo and press the button to control the brightness and does not have rotate anymore.
Ehem, can request TS to change the bottom tag line, Official Froyo SEA is HERE. No longer coming, other then only some user. Well, it'll hit to them at least today.

If change the bottom tag line to Official Froyo SEA is HERE for selected wildfire
then how to check if i had backup it ? sorry for noobie question >.< anyway why htc sync pc software cant sync people ? ><
I myself not sure about this. I've done factory reset before, and after a while all contact and apps are installed back by itself. Not need for me to install it one by one. Just the setting of app is lost (e.g.: all level already played on angry bird)
Somehow, if the contact is newly added through your phone, then it can be easily seen on your gmail list of contact.
oh yea, for those who can't get to update yet. Did you buy your phone from Telco like Maxis or DiGi ? Because my friend uses Legend, and he bought from DiGi, when Legend got the update to 2.2, his phone still need to wait for DiGi to approve then only can update. Others who bought the phone outside, no need to wait, straight away go update wo.

Mine I bought it from Garmin shop. Bone stock root free phone. No update.
I do notice one thing though. Early buyers like me, whitegoh, xngjn, KHOdin didn't get the update. Maybe HTC gives the update to those later batch then only comes to early batch.
i'm not sure if my update was there all along cus i didn't know where to get it.
but i played with the time, date and time-zone etc. then i figured out that i had to go "Settings>About Phone> System software updates" and the update was there.

Then thats more weird. I just bought my Wildfire 2 months ago yet I didn't get the update.

So pretty much all oldfag wildfires miss the update. I bought mine 2 weeks after launched.
after a day half i run the froyo, these are the things i discover
1. Manage Applications in Setting was smoother and faster than b4 and now it has more user-friendly interface. Setting also has new changes 2. the quality in default camera has increase 3. the orientation on application was faster than b4 4. new HTC flashlight 5. wifi-hotspot 6. App 2 SD was superb. however not all apps can b removed to SD. still need for the apps company to update their version for App 2 SD 7. users can feel smoother feeling than b4. quality of font increase a little if i'm not mistaken. don't expect too high bcoz WF not a high-end phone 8. faster internet surfing 9. the default Google search has new interfacen more user-friendly 10. Errr... android wallpaper has gone. did anybody else like me?
