Try 3g watchdog . great app in my opinion

also, same like others, no update available yet (not try to change the time though)!

definetely, from watchdog lite, live wallpaper and htc sense use quite a lot of battery,
maybe that why when we use other launcher, there is a significant battery improvement

mine also is still up to date 2.1
or maybe we're the lucky with overnight improvement...

contact is easier to backup either through google account or just simcard!
you might unreliased that it might already auto backup through google!

just go to people>menu>import/export>export to SD card>then choose "google" assuming you had google account

I myself not sure about this. I've done factory reset before, and after a while
all contact and apps are installed back by itself. Not need for me to install it one by one.
Just the setting of app is lost (e.g.: all level already played on angry bird)

Somehow, if the contact is newly added through your phone, then it can be easily seen on your gmail list of contact.

i think you really need to visit xda forum first,
get the basic idea, read thoroughly and discuss more here.

downloading depand on your internet connection , while installing take around 10-15 mins.
Overall maybe half hour (might need to hard reset too, and install back some apps)
