Does 1080p comes with any drawbacks? What would my desktop resolution become? That B+RGLED thing seems very nice.

Yup, text and stuff would appear smaller, but not Windows 7 icons or anything Windows related because Windows high DPI awareness automatically adjust and enlarge the text size for you. You can even set up your applications to be DPI-aware so that their text and icons don't appear too small or eye straining.

Read more here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd...1(v=vs.85).aspx

As for web browsing, you can use magnification. On IE I have the magnification set to 125%. On Chrome at 120% for this forum.

For me, 1080p's pros far outweighs its cons. Plus I have Blu-Ray Rom and enjoy FHD so yeah. tongue.gif

No. Are you running a disc in your CD drive?

RGBLED was and is quite overkill, IMHO. Btw, what do you mean by 'B+RG screens are a great compromise'? Forgive me for asking, I'm not quite sure what you meant by that.
Damn it, mine is still processing delivery date  doh.gif the invoice says on or before 13/1.  doh.gif  doh.gif
Again I don't know how great an issue this is but some people are complaining about oversaturation on RGBLED. See: http://www.google.com.my/#hl=en&q=RGBLED+oversaturated
So since we can't have the best screen without possible oversaturation, isn't B+RGLED a great compromise since it's better than WLED?
Also, if I'm not mistaken RGBLED uses more power.

Oh and I thought you had already got your laptop. ^^;

I think I paid for it using a 0% instalment scheme, can't remember which one, or whether I used instalment or lump sum. Nevertheless, what is it that you need help with?

Well apparently i tested a few games on the XPS 15. Here are my specs:

i7 turbo boost up to 2.93ghz
Nvidia Gt435m
6gb Ram
1080p screen

So the games that i played which are quite smooth are:
Gta IV-Medium-High settings
Section 8 - High
NFS Hot Pursuit - High
MW2 and BO - Automatic-High settings
Unreal Tournament - High
SC2 - Medium-High
Transformers War For Cybertron - High
Counter-Strike Source - High
I get an average of around 30+fps from the settings above. And I ran autoCAD 2010, Microsoft Words, Adobe Photoshop CS4 all at once and apparently no lag spikes or heating whatsoever. Guess the 6gbs of ram was quite worth the money. Definitely a great mainstream laptop to whoever is thinking of purchasing it rclxms.gif

Tell you what, call their call center. Or I can refer a salesperson to you if you want. Easier compared to the site.

Plus, i get bored listening to the in-game music, so most of the time i would open media player classic and make a long playlist of shows like HIMYM and Two and a half men and just minimize it and listen to it while playing games. No lag whatsoever rclxms.gif

Note in the first line of the quoted text: you have to have the same density to be able to achieve full dual channel.
*
My point is that without having memory of same density, dual channel is still available in the form of either Intel Flex Mode or Asynchronous Dual Channel.
It might not be as fast as Synchronous Dual Channel but still it's better than single channel.

I can't confirm that whether XPS 15 mobo supports it but if it's available potential buyers who're short on budget may consider the 6GB RAM upgrade.
Surely, there're lots of alternatives but I'm just pointing out that Intel Flex Mode or Asynchronous Dual Channel is one of them.

Ultimately, it's the buyer to decide whether they'd go for Synchronous or Asynchronous Dual Channel.

Hi all XPS owner, i'm planning to get XPS14 but i found that it doesn't come with VGA port where i need to plug into projector sometimes. sad.gif

Anyway, is anyone here tried using 2 converters at same time ( HDMI->DVI, then DVI->VGA ) ??

Or shall i just purchase a mini display->VGA converter?? BTW, it cost much higher (RM99 @ Mac centre.. sweat.gif )

Probably it won't work. Vga to dvi is possible, because there are two kinds of dvi signal (DVI-I, which has both analog and digital output, and DVI-A which has only the analog output.). So if you hook in the vga->dvi cable, the signal will analog on the dvi-end of the cable. Since hdmi is digital, it doesn't support analog signals.

But there are signal converters that can convert digital to analog rgb, but they cost like 300$ at least. So you'll need a hdmi to dvi -cable and a signal converter similar to this:

Don't buy from Mac City/Machines/Epicentre. LOL. They overcharge like hell for accessories. Take a little time off, go to Digital Mall and save yourself 60%-70% of the price for cables.
