You should proceed with that yourself. It ain't that hard, yo.

to anyone wanting to buy a Cooler Master NotePal Infinite for their brand new XPS, I strongly suggest you don't. I've just purchased one this afternoon and did some temp testings and found out that there's totally no difference in the temperature at all. I had a Cooler Master NotePal U2 and it effectively lowers the temperature of the laptop.. I strongly recommend U2 instead of infinite. save your $$!

Damn. I've got a CM X-Lite from this current laptop, future XPS 15 user reporting in.

Almost went for a MacBook Pro but in the end decided to save a little moolah and go for the more powerful & economical XPS 15. Hope I didn't make a bad decision, lol. ph34r.gif

I see pirated Need for Speed on your desktop whistling.gif

Anyway, that looks good. Hopefully a cooler to the right spots might enhance the temperature readings even more. Were you using with/without?

WTF. Seriously, wtf. If you guys go and take a look at the Dell site now, the FHD B+RGLED is not available as an option anymore. And I'm leaving for camp tomorrow. Perfect timing lah, Dell. Just when I wanted to buy it, it goes out of stock.

Damn dulan.

Well I'll be damned, it's true. Based on the replies I got from the old thread, I guess that the FHD1080p screens might delay their production, so maybe thats a reason why they took it out of the selection. Im just saying brows.gif
*
I don't mind the wait, I do a lot of photo work so the B+RGLED is the closest I can get to the real RGBLED offered in the SXPS 16. Yet they HAD to take it off, and I'm leaving first thing in the morning tomorrow, so there's my hopes destroyed of being able to shave 4 days off the waiting time. Bloody hell, frustrated. Baru baru only somemore. Yesterday wanted to place the order, but not free, today wanna place order, gone. vmad.gif mad.gif cry.gif

Hmm if im not mistaken, sxps 16's upgraded lcd should be better than xps 15's upgraded lcd
*
Yup. SXPS 16's upgrade is a real RGBLED (red, green and blue separate LEDs) so CG is wide. About 120% of Adobe RGB, as far as I have read. XPS15's B+RGLED consists of a blue & red/green LED, so the color gamut isn't as wide as the RGB's.

good stuff doesnt not last long...should get as soon as possible..
..they should not removed....i hope it is temporary.....
*
Yeah, at least put a notice stating that it might take a longer while or something, haih. Definitely hope it is temporary. It happened with the SXPS16's RGBLED once too, IIRC. doh.gif doh.gif now I don't know how long it is gonna take me until I can get my XPS 15. Been waiting for an upgrade for a LONG while already. doh.gif

It was the reason I chose it over the MacBook Pro, lol. doh.gif

Oh well, my only hope is to see what happens when I come home from camp, hopefully it's back. But if you ask me, I think it's gonna take until after Christmas till it's available. Bloody hell. doh.gif doh.gif

Don't waste your time. Nowadays PIKOM filled with scammers, and the deals just aren't attractive anymore.

Hey guys, I'm holding my XPS purchase back for a bit because my parents have just made me think of another factor that is going to affect my purchase.

Life expectancy.

As I'll be heading to college in 2 years' time, I'll need a laptop that will last me at least 4-5 years, 2-3 years into university. I need your honest opinion - do you think this laptop (let's say I get the i5 version) will last me for 4-5 years, at least? And into university, when I'll need the laptop for processor-demanding tasks like AutoCAD and all?

I am most probably looking towards the engineering field, if you're wondering.

Thanks in advance.

IMHO, no lappy gonna last u for 5 years....at most 3 years.......In 2 years time ur lappy gonna be outdated....

if u insist on getting XPS, i recommend u to take the core i7 version.....by that time most of the apps should able to utilized all 4 core of ur processor....

if u can wait, better to buy them b4 u enter ur university......

i have friend learn basic Autocad for their courses for enginnering......core 2 duo processor can handle them quite good......

Added on December 15, 2010, 12:58 amor u can buy a normal spec lappy for 2 year then only buy a good spec lappy for uni......
*
Well, I find comfort in the C2D faring quite well with your friend. I do a lot of photo work, and that's why I'm planning an upgrade now - my current notebook is totally unfit for the job (Pentium M 1.73GHz doh.gif ) and I'm looking for something that will last me 3-4 years.

I don't need it to be exactly 'top of the line' after 2-3 years, just being able to handle the future averagely is good enough.

Anyway, just a thought, what other suggestions do you have if I shouldn't get the XPS?

probably asus.......

but i can tell u that xps 15 is good enough for u if u are not finding a top line lappy for the next 2 or 3 years as u said rclxms.gif
*
I see. Well, just wondering, what is 'top line' at the moment? I'm thinking I'd have a better chance that it will last longer if I get a top line laptop, no?

Ouch. Now that is hardcore. Haha, all I need is the top 20%, not the top 5% shakehead.gif and I'm a little concerned about design too, that's why I was kind of reluctant to choose the XPS 15 over the MacBook Pro at first.

QUOTE(vernon91 @ Dec 15 2010, 01:19 AM)
better ask at ur other thread.....since there are more expect than me on the latest lappy.......

Well, in your opinion, what else is better at around the same price point & just with better specs? I don't mind considering as my XPS purchase got held back.

Yup, how it looks overall. I had a little disliking of the overly rounded edges of the XPS 15's top half, but it soon wore off. A Sager though, definitely a no though. I can sacrifice aesthetic design, but there is a limit... doh.gif

Well, I'll be studying engineering in about... 4 years' time? Sure hope it doesn't change much then laugh.gif

don't worry, school syllabus won't change much and only worry when u're joining competitions tat required heavy autoCAD(which requires more RAM than fast processor speed). Engineer on i5 should be enough but it will be a plus point to get i7 package. It's best if u can upgrade to 3 years warranty since u're trying to hold it for 4 years.
*
Thanks for clarifying for me. More RAM - so do you suggest I settle for 8GB RAM in my XPS 15 config? As you said, if I'm joining competitions that requires heavy AutoCAD. I kind-of need the battery to last at least 3-4 hours so the i7 is out of the picture unless it can produce phenomenal results compared to the i5.

Budget is not a problem, but if it doesn't do much difference, then why splurge on it? Yes, I'm tempted to get 8GB RAM, but if 4GB is already powerful enough, I don't see a need in 8GB...

err, actually 4GB is sufficient for me, but 6GB will allow u to handle more things at once. Based on site reviews, when u're doing hardcore work, with i5 i don't think u can get more than 3 hours. Anyway, GC and processor determine ur rendering speed. IMO i7 + 9 cells would be a good 1.
*
Yeah, problem is the i7 doesn't support Optimus, and Optimus supposedly does quite a bit in saving battery power.

QUOTE(vernon91 @ Dec 15 2010, 02:01 AM)
if u don nid that much u can upgrade then later on when u nid them.....i have 4gb but starting to be not enough.....
*
Oh, I see. Well, I think I'll get the 4GB since 4GB sticks go for around the same price on LYN. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yup, definitely going to take the 9 cell. Btw, does anybody have an idea of what's the difference between the WiFi Link 6200 and WNC 6300?

Doesn't really make a difference for us normal users right? We don't have routers like the one mentioned in this topic on NBR in our country anyway, we're just using normal D-Links right?
