operators like Petronas and Shell have OT trainee programmes....
basically structured development programme for diploma entries...
go on the web and search for these...
sometimes it is advertised on papers as well... keep a look out...
as most companies only have 1 intake a year...

Wow!!!! Which mnc. Please enlighten us.

lol don't listen to him. That's utter crap. Freshies don't get more than 5k after adding in benefits. My cousin is in SLB.

Hi guys, this is my 1st time posting here.

Regarding the starting salary for freshies stated by BRC, perhaps I can clear up some of the confusion.

Starting pay used to be 3.8k but they get 13 months of salary previously.

Now, they have taken the extra month of salary divided it into 12 and added it into every month...so starting pay now ~ 4.4k

Also, relocation allowance (to Miri) = 2.7k

All in a freshie will get more than 7k a month...

This is the standard starting salary for all freshies with a degree (even if you're in HR, you'll get the same pay package). If you are sent to offshore, then you'll get extra allowance...Hope that clear things up a bit.

Just FYI to the guy who mention about the pay in SLB,the basic for fresh is already more than 5K,that still doesnt include the extra 20% you get while being based at Kemaman or labuan.

Hello chaps,

It has been a while since the last time I posted a comment in this Forum. However, I still following it closely particularly about this interesting Oil & Gas Career topic. I used to be like you before, aiming to join O&G company and command high salary. Almost everyday I surf through this topic and see if there is any job opening or career advice shared by forumers. I never give up on applying to any job vacancies. In the end of the day, I managed to secure one which I never though that I'll get it. It was like a dream come true. I'm currently working in this industry & earning a big chunk of paycheck which is above average of Malaysian income. Thanks to God.

But anyway, that is not the point I want to share with you. The point is you can't easily give up in applying the job. I'm sure one fine day, you'll get one. It's just the matter of when it would be happen. I used to be like you before who was a freshie attended heaps of interview until it made me almost give up. But instead, I keep on trying and finally I made it. At this point, I'm still can be considered as freshie, having work for just 1 and half year.

Anyway, continue putting an effort and believe in yourself. good luck...

Cheers! icon_rolleyes.gif

hi guys. what should a guy with degree specializing in rock and petrophyics apply during a general interview for oil and gas jobs. i'm interested in engineering field, possibly reservoir engineer or drilling engineer or maybe well engineer? . but since my degree doesnt have that 'éngineer' title, could i still apply for them?
i'm curious about what my other options are other than petrophysicist.. hmm.gif

Hello guys, nice thread.

I'm a final year engineering student from UPM and I'll be graduating this year.

Does anyone know when and where is the next Schlumberger recruitment day?

I heard that they regularly conduct campus recruitment in UTP and UTM. Are students from other universities eligible to apply through there?

I have been thinking about applying online through careers.slb.com, but then I found out that most people get to submit their resume and get a chance for an interview from career fairs or university tours. I reckon the chances of getting noticed are higher when you submit your resume directly instead of online through their career website.

What about the upcoming Jobstreet MCTF and JobsDB Career Expo. Does anyone have any idea what O&G and O&G Services will be there (or are usually there)?

looking forward to your replies!

thanks for the information! i checked out the website (http://cf.eng.usm.my/) and found this message

"For those who wish to submit resume for Schlumberger, please do so before 11.59pm 18 January 2011. Thank you."

today is already 19th, too bad sad.gif I gotta be more alert

by the way USM engineering campus is in Pulau Pinang right? so far away from KL.
I will probably go there if the resume submission period was a little later.

If you or anyone else here are planning to attend the career fair, could you get some information from SLB's booth regarding the next campus tour and whether or not they will be in the Jobstreet's and JobDB's career fairs? icon_question.gif Thanks! I really appreciate it thumbup.gif
