hi guys. what should a guy with degree specializing in rock and petrophyics apply during a general interview for oil and gas jobs. i'm interested in engineering field, possibly reservoir engineer or drilling engineer or maybe well engineer? . but since my degree doesnt have that 'éngineer' title, could i still apply for them?
i'm curious about what my other options are other than petrophysicist.. hmm.gif

Hello guys, nice thread.

I'm a final year engineering student from UPM and I'll be graduating this year.

Does anyone know when and where is the next Schlumberger recruitment day?

I heard that they regularly conduct campus recruitment in UTP and UTM. Are students from other universities eligible to apply through there?

I have been thinking about applying online through careers.slb.com, but then I found out that most people get to submit their resume and get a chance for an interview from career fairs or university tours. I reckon the chances of getting noticed are higher when you submit your resume directly instead of online through their career website.

What about the upcoming Jobstreet MCTF and JobsDB Career Expo. Does anyone have any idea what O&G and O&G Services will be there (or are usually there)?

looking forward to your replies!

not sure about their recruitment day but Schlumberger will be attending in USM engineering campus during career fair on this 25th and 26th january. other students from other universities are welcome btw.. nod.gif

thanks for the information! i checked out the website (http://cf.eng.usm.my/) and found this message

"For those who wish to submit resume for Schlumberger, please do so before 11.59pm 18 January 2011. Thank you."

today is already 19th, too bad sad.gif I gotta be more alert

by the way USM engineering campus is in Pulau Pinang right? so far away from KL.
I will probably go there if the resume submission period was a little later.

If you or anyone else here are planning to attend the career fair, could you get some information from SLB's booth regarding the next campus tour and whether or not they will be in the Jobstreet's and JobDB's career fairs?  icon_question.gif  Thanks! I really appreciate it  thumbup.gif

lol.. the submission date used to be 7 january. now they extend it to 18. sweat.gif
they will be another career fair in usm maybe in late march. Every year since my 1st year, Schlumberger and Petronas take part. Maybe they will join again in the next career fair or maybe not. tongue.gif
will inform you if they do..

Thanks for these replies.. smile.gif

Before this I was worried that if i go to general interview and say that i want to be a PP, they reply like " sorry, we have enough PP in our company, you're not needed. Go back home.. sweat.gif ''

I'm curious about the job scope though. Do PP have to go offshore platform and perform the MWD/LWD on the field himself or they simply sit in front of the computer doing processing and interpreting work only? i.e, does the job contain some technical works on the field or sit in front of pc only all day?

btw, work like a dog? well.. since the pay is high, i guest that's justified..

Hi guys.

I'm planning to go to the coming OGA 2011 tomorrow to drop my resume. Do they have walk-in interview during the exhibition like normal career fair? Or we can only drop our resume there?

Hi guys.

Based from my readings, it seems that seismic is the main geophysics method for offshore exploration. I'm curious, what are the position of electrical-related method in exploration by O&G companies. Is it widely used for exploration or just for electrical well logging only? Reason I ask this is, although I'm from geophysics background, my field of expertise is actually in electrical related such as rock resistivity, SP, and the like.
Not that i mind about learning and mastering other fields.. Just curious though..

AVO?? that's Amplitude Variation with offset right?

Basically what I'm studying is the physics properties of rock and relate them with porosity, permeability, density, and etc2. Is my branch of study considered rock physics, or petrophysics? I'm always confused about the difference between these two terms..

I can't tell you which division in O&G that accepts this handicap but i can tell you for sure that color blind ppl is not "preferred" in wireline logging, MWD because most of time their work involves a lot of log monitoring on the PC screen.

Since different logs have different color and you can have as many as 10-11 log graphs on the screen at one time, it's really hard to tell which one is which if you are color blind.

What are the common parameters that are measured during MWD/LWD in the industry? Are resistivity and polarization considered as common? I'm going to complete my master soon and my study areas are more concentrated on magnetic and electrical studies on rock.
Not really sure what kind of position I should be looking for later.. blink.gif

What was your degree course?

Btw, how difficult is it to apply for roughneck jobs in O&G?
