Dear all future Big 4 applicants.

I have a simple request of all of you.
Do learn how to use Ms Excel (at least know basic formulas etc) and Ms Word before you start work. Please.
Don't drive your future seniors up the wall and make us don't want to confirm you.

I don't think I'm asking too much here.

Overall standards rise, but the bell curve remains. There is always someone below the average.

Not only associates.... some seniors I dealt with also give me this problem. The best is when you amend some details but the total still remain the same, then you realise the joker wrote over the formula with direct input /facepalm

Maybe we should add the tips at the pinned thread to let everyone know that they should go for basic msoft office skills refresher course.

Well, Sometimes, you would just need to be patience..i mean, true that they make mistakes but, if you deal with their mistakes in the correct ways then fine... ive seen some senior who make the hell out of everything and end up making the junior , you know go through the lowest esteem of their life.. some time their talent just needs brush ups like rusted metals... =) for me, i would just explain properly and not go on rage with them =)

Afterall i hear that in the near future that the Juniors will have the power to rate the seniors........ so far heard my firm and a frends co have the proposals d..

Life is cruel especially at the top.
If a junior cannot sustain such a beating then can forget about making it to the top. Sounds harsh but its fair.
The senior will also be assessed on their leasdership and coaching skill but that doesnt justify that the junior can too.
Making mistakes are extremely normal, its expected. But bouncing back from mistake requires guts.

I know you're experienced and at the top. But there's no need to be like that one. That's why I'm disgust with the culture of certain firms.

No need to exert power that way one!

There's the thing with audit firms. So hierarchy, rank-and-fileish when honestly the difference in age between a typical associate and senior associate is probably 1-2 years. Weakness of a structured progression system, where unless you suck beyond suck you'd definitely make senior in 2 years.

Perhaps the statement is taken out of context. I believe what is meant is "Don't expect to be treated with kid's gloves when you make mistakes. And the best way to improve is to take criticism positively."

Perhaps I am old-school but I am inclined to agree with Topace with the fact that the best seniors I have had the opportunity to work with are those that have come through a baptism of fire instead of a protective bubble.

I think wat was out of context was the word "beating". But I'm sure everyone here has experienced a beating in an audit firm, and it literally can be a beating in every sense of the word.

However, wat others do to you doesn't mean you have to do to others. Everyone can be pissed off at poor work but there is a manner to convey it professionally. I've worked with many managers and seniors and the goods ones are good regardless of whether they were trained by the whip or taken by the hand. Weren't we new joiners once?

A new study found that people who worked 11 hours or more a day were 67% more likely to have a heart attack or die of one over an average 12 years of follow-up, compared with people who worked standard seven- or eight-hour days.

base on your opinion, do u think there's difference between CV handed in personally(digital copy or hardcopy) str8 to the firms compared with CV handed in to the college management to be compiled and handed over in a stack instead?

I doubt it unless your college is slack in handing over the resumes.
