again, you win on the most "easiest" and "simplest" desktop/windowing environment. Where can I get? thee hee  notworthy.gif

Well, it's my own WM, so I haven't released it anywhere yet. Even if I did, it would be a pain for most people to install.

If you want something with behaviour close to mine, you can try CalmWM, but the source won't install properly on Linux unless you modify the openbsd_compat headers (it's originally made for BSD ... cos Linux sucks:P) and create a new makefile, and even then you'll probably get some dependency issues (basically, I don't recommend you try it)

Why not try a tiling WM like Xmonad, DWM, ScrotWM, etc first?
Note: these WM's are not really "easy" for for first-timers, so you'll need to read up a bit.

Got a laptop guys !
now i need guidance for installed base Linux on this laptop .
might be going for LinuxMint since it looks nice and attracts me with the GUI features .

any taiko can teach me bit by bit ? tongue.gif

Mint is great for beginners, and possibly a tad easier the Ubuntu, since it already comes with codecs and stuff, plus it's prettier.... but you'll need to download and burn a DVD, not CD (at least for the main Gnome version) since the .iso is bigger.

For ubuntu, just read this;

smile.gif thanks for dat information. so in effort to get close to yours we should re-make the "Make" which is the "best" thing to do with patient. haha.. however, I've used MS-DOS from version 3.0 until 7.1 which is MORE frustrating than re-making a "Make". hahaha thanks anyway.. I love minimalistic WM . . .

I feel MS-DOS was way better than any Windows version.
Oh, DR-DOS > MS-DOS, btw (but Unix still wins) tongue.gif

If you wanna try CWM, it's not a matter of simply creating a new Makefile, though. You'll probably need some BSD experience.

Here's what I did to get it running on my Debian and Crux boxes. Worked for me but your mileage may vary.

1.Create an openbsd_compat.[ch] with the definitions TAILQ_END, LLONG_MAX and LLONG_MIN and the functions fgetln, strlcpy, strlcat and strtonum.

2.Remove the "__dead" in calmwm.[ch]

3. Include openbsd_compat.h in headers.h.

4. Create a new, simple Makefile compatible with both BSD make and GNU make. Creating for a single make somehow makes it fail when you run make on Linux, cos some of the headers search for OpenBSD related stuff regardless.

5. Satisfy dependencies. (May vary depending on distro .... this is for Debian Sid)
Install byacc libexpat1-dev libfontconfig1-dev libxau-dev libxdmcp-dev libxext-dev libxfont-dev libxft-dev libxinerama-dev libxrandr-dev libxrender-dev libxt-dev x11proto-bigreqs-dev x11proto-xf86bigfont-dev x11proto-xf86dga-dev x11proto-xf86misc-dev x11proto-xf86vidmode-dev zlib1g-dev

You'll still get errors, but you can safely ignore the ones that contain "openbsd_" in it. Remember to run "make test" to simulate.

Enjoy.

Refining the LXDE desktop. Won't decide on a conky setup to use it for the time being.

Attached Image

For some reason, I decided not to get rid of LXPanel's window list since I have Docky down below. ... Let's just say I'm having it for pure cosmetic purposes.

... I really want to have a spare machine just so I can test other DE setups... don't have the balls for VM-ing things just for that purpose yet sweat.gif

This time I decided to make my Openbox session a desktop rather than just the WM alone.

Attached Image

So enter Tint2 + Trayer to make what's below, and Docky because I just feel like having it.

Happy belated St. Valentine's to all the ladies.

I guess I'll follow the Openbox/tint2 trend.
I use docker instead of tint2 for my systray apps, cos most systray icons are f*cking ugly and go against my minimalist sensibilities. It's hidden on the top right (you can see the slight shadows).

Wrong thread. Ask here = http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1683179
You can do almost anything you want on Linux, basically ..... except maybe play the latest DirectX games or run specific Microshit apps.

I currently don't use CWM, so I don't have the modified source on hand. My WM is just heavily inspired by it and uses some of it's code. I'll try to compile one for you when I have time, but you'll have to remind me cos I'm quite forgetful.

Nothing wrong with ubuntu if you know how to do with your partition, try linux mint 10 as it is 'ubuntu' itself but more polished and much easier to install.
