just notice this parenting thread n bf.
my wife delivered our 1st daughter in may and both of us are determined to bf her as long as my wife can cope. did gave her formula for the first 4days as wife not yet have milk. from then, she managed to pump enough and sometimes more to build stock.

my wife pantang at our own house to avoid mil dramas for both of us. was living like a zombie but it was great that it was peaceful at home. avoid drama at all cost brows.gif

budak hijau, your wife needs to eat and drinks enough to get more milk. i knew my wife will have low production when she is not eating enough.
other that than she took gnc fenugreek and drinks oat or cereal drink in between meals or feel a bit hungry.

hope all is well for ur baby

It is actually advisable not to give pacifier...as the baby may get 'nipple confused', which may result in your baby rejecting your wife's nipple.

However, I gave my son pacifier and luckily, he didn't get nipple confusion. Later on he weaned himself from the pacifier..prefering the real thing tongue.gif.

So it really depends. I've heard of some babies getting confused later on..and some don't. So it really depends if your baby can easily adjust to different nipples.

Alternatively, you can just try to cuddle your baby and see if it helps. Sometimes. babies just want some comfort. Placing your baby on your chest could help too..as they can hear your heartbeat.

so far my princess not confuse yet. still ok with direct bf once at night. last time she dunno how to direct bf, but after using avent bottle-ok already.

i used pacifier for her when i'm driving her to babysitter place or fussing to sleep. i'd say its ok to use but u must control it n not being too dependent on it smile.gif

No my baby didn't get confuse. Like Xander, She of course prefer the real thing in the initial days.

My CL doesn't encourage pacifier. She said more work for her as need to wash and clean often. But in the end she surrender cuz i can't rest when my girl need to pacify to sleep. So we offer the pacifier.

Nowadays, after i stop bf, my girl rely on it to sleep. And the maid have been secretly using it to stop her making noise when she need to work. I was damn furious and told her if she continue using it, i will throw it away. U r responsible if my baby cries. LOL.. So cruel...

Hello...

Ill be delivering my first child in the coming march 2012. First, I'm planning to have breastfeed but there are couple of question here to ask all the experts...

1. Since its my first pregnancy, is that mean that my milk supply will be little in the first few weeks and might not be able to cope with the baby demand?

2. Interviewed a CL yesterday, she suggested that if the milk supply not enough, must mix with breast milk with formula milk. Is this a correct way to deal with?

3. Which breast pump should I opt for? ( I'm in marketing field, required to travel outside most of the time after my maternity)

4. How long should I breast feed? Can I breast feed baby for just 2 months?

Hope to hear from all the experience daddy and mummy...

1. Since its my first pregnancy, is that mean that my milk supply will be little in the first few weeks and might not be able to cope with the baby demand?
during the last trimester of pregnancy n few days after giving birth, ur body is producing gold milk - colostrum (dunno correct spelling or not)... it's full of antibody for ur baby... the best thing that no other formula or cow or goat or soya milk can give... during the first 3 mths, it's advised to latch on to build up the supply n to avoid nipple confusion/preferance...

2. Interviewed a CL yesterday, she suggested that if the milk supply not enough, must mix with breast milk with formula milk. Is this a correct way to deal with?
nonsense... the main formula for bf is demand = supply... no demand no supply... u must let ur baby latch on to tell ur body to produce more milk... there's a lot of tales abt CL... they prefer FM coz it's easier for them to take care of baby... if u wanna bf then DO NOT BUY FORMULA MILK FOR JUST IN CASE... if CL couldn't find FM then she had to let u bf rite?

3. Which breast pump should I opt for? ( I'm in marketing field, required to travel outside most of the time after my maternity)
i read a lot of them buy medela freestyle coz u can use the handsfree option... u can pump in the car or in the office while in front of the computer wif a nursing poncho/cover... no excuse for being inefficient at work n being a bf mummy smile.gif oh ya buy some ice pack or fridge-to-go...

4. How long should I breast feed? Can I breast feed baby for just 2 months?
WHO recommended bf exclusively (meaning no water, sugar water, glucose water, FM, soyamilk, oatmilk, goat milk, etc, just breastmilk) for 6 mths n continue to 2 yrs (n above)... it's ur choice to how long u wanna bf ur baby... s/he is UR baby after all...

Hope to hear from all the experience daddy and mummy...

here's some quote for u to ponder...

QUOTE(SurpriseZZZZZ @ Sep 4 2011, 10:45 PM)
yeap, why not, in fact, we been promoting breastfeeding to mothers around us. both of us studied science back then. guess our understanding of our body makes us want to breastfeed even more.

i heard of this quote before from a lactation consultant.

"You won't see little calf come and ask for your breast milk, but why in the world you guys as mothers going out and ask milk from cows!?"
*
QUOTE(SurpriseZZZZZ @ Sep 8 2011, 08:53 PM)
Remember this, every mother can breast feed and born with that. It is not a super human ability.

just to add. not just CL, my mil n her mother also kept on saying on how we should add formula to thicken the bmilk. but we just ignore them on that part smile.gif

i'd say medela freestyle is the best pump for working moms (as commented by my wife and her bf frens at office), get it if you can afford it smile.gif. those maclaren stroller can wait hehe j/k

for on-the-go storage, we used coleman 6pack container with 6pack ice pack. usually last 8hr in aircondition office if do not have fridge or 6hr room temp.

Hi pennie23, welcome to parenthood. making the choice to BF is the best start to your LO's life.

Besides what nicKit has answered, I'd like to add that to successfully BF, determination is the key. If you are determined, you'll overcome whatever hurdles along the way ie not enough milk issues, engorgement etc etc.

I'll suggest you going for Gina Yong's class http://www.lovebreastfeeding.com/breastfeeding-class.html

I seriously suggest you to go for it...coz..everyone thinks that BF is easy..but there's so many things that can go wrong at the first start which can deter you from BF ie wrong latch technique, CL discourages, poor knowledge.

What you get here from us is just based on our experience..whereas from Gina, you'll be getting on a professional level.

I know that the main issue every new momma gets is ..I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MILK! PLS PLS KEEP IN MIND THAT YOUR BODY IS NOT LIKE A MILK CARTON FROM THE FRIDGE..JUST POUR OUT THE AMOUNT THAT YOU WANT.

It takes a while for your body to adjust which goes to the formula that nicKit said.. demand = supply. For the first couple of days..colustrum is the most nutritious milk for your baby. It will be little. But hey..your NB's stomach is a sice of a pea...how are you gonna stuff 3oz of milk into that tiny space??? Hence...it's also why NB requiries more milk..in terms of frequency rather than quantity. Furthermore, breast milk is easily digested than Formula (which rather says the stuff they put into FM).

Let me warn you that BF is not an easy journey for some...but it is definitely rewarding.

I've been breastfeeding for over 2 yrs now..and even though lots have asked me to wean but I'm not ready to let go of the special moments that my son and I have during bf. Also the benefits he's still receiving from BF.

Breastmilk tend to be on the watery side depending what the baby needs and whether it's fore milk or hind milk.

Aih.. elderlies.. They used to think that yellow milk (colostrum) is expired milk, so they throw them out and only feed the baby when milk turns white.

I think Xander will wean himself when the taste of milk change when he's about to get a lil sister or brother brows.gif

That being said, I totally understand the special moments part. Most of the time my baby just want to suckle for comfort purposes, not so much for hunger. And she'll look at my eyes and slowly fall asleep......ah... bliss.... blush.gif

Happy birthday to your kid, and hugs for you for completing 1 year in motherhood wink.gif

I have learnt a lot from this thread and it determined me to BF my no.2 even during the time i was pregnant. I have been to other forums, but there is a personal touch here, or i just have a great chemistry with mamas here... thanks Kit, Phythia and sbux!

I just wrote abt my experience here, hope new mamas can benefit from it
