i still think the bw ultimate looks better compared to the xarmor, and do take not i'm no razertard.
maybe because xarmor's spacebar spoilt it for me.
what the hell is it with the dot at the centre of the space bar. /facepalm.

Haha just personal preference la.
Overall I prefer BW Ultimate also, but the Xarmor i think got tenkeyless version just small and cute ^^ (but bit inconvenient)

Quality is good. But oddly if you want NKRO, have to get the PS2 version. Filco and Ducky can get NKRO via usb to PS2 adapter, but the Deck Legend cannot get NKRO via adapter which is very odd.... Considering the cost, i omitted getting this because of the NKRO oddity. Also Filco and Ducky were cheaper besides, and i didn't need the backlighting that badly doh.gif

Xarmor U9BL
The keycaps have rubber in it so they may not be so durable. Oddly enough it also is dye sublimated which is nice, just the rubbery parts are a concern in regards to durability.

http://hardwareaware.com/review/xarmor-u9bl/

Razer BlackWidow Ultimate
2KRO which is pathethic considering they are marketing this as a gamers keyboard. Also glossy so it's a finger print magnet. And only comes with cherry mx blue only doh.gif Other than that i think it looks good :/ just too bad about the 2KRO part which to me is a big let down for such a pricey keyboard.

Don't expect too much from Razer lo lol

That is absolutely cant be considered as a pricey keyboard since the expert version only selling at 279 which is so cheap compared to other mechanical keyboard.

2KRO means the keyboard only can press 2 keys together at 1 shot. They said this based on BW fail ZXC. most of other part no problem by help of optimization.

Some key cap like double shot or any laser etched key printing key caps won't fade of also.
True the backlit is nice, but myself don't like MX blue switches and BW wrist rest just too small.

@moogle
Saw lot picture of the filco's leather rest, if got anywhere you see any news that someone bulking and importing filco products then inform me as well maybe i wan buy the rest also (but still considering since the price tag really heavy sweat.gif )

sorry to pop your bubbles but... the new set of keys that you purchase separately from the keyboard are not coated, so the font lettering will wear out faster compare to the filco keycaps that comes with the keyboard(please do note the difference between these is that the filco keyboard that you purchase will be coated, and if you buy separated keycaps, those keycaps will not be coated)

so please reconsider when you purchasing them, because the lettering will wear out alot faster, i would only advice you buy blank ones rather than those with lettering/font

Replaced with the blank black key caps, whole keyboard in black color is cool.

Finally managed to take the Blackwidow for a spin on games after one week of it literally collecting dust.

Personal thoughts:
-Anyone with prickly ears really needs headphones when gaming on it. It sounds a bit like a typewriter lol.
-failed the doubleshift quick brown fox test, it's results are similar
-Like all razer products, it's very flashy - there's a backlit razer logo below the spacebar with adjustable brightness, glossy frame, also feels sturdy compared to most of their mice. Fingerprints are not that noticeable on the glossy frame thankfully, but dust certainly is!
-Also will take a while getting used to. Dotards and the like will have to factor the shifted F1 key - it's sitting above the W key not Q. Also too used to my old keyboard - occasionally I press the macro key instead of LCtrl sometimes.

Then again I'm a mech keyboard nub.

Edit - there's an obvious hole at the arrow keys for customers in retail shops to try out the feel of the mx blues - beware of damaged keys there if buying it off the shelf.

True, MX blue just a noisy stuff but nice to hear also, beware will annoying people next to you.

No such thing as mechanical keyboard noob.
As long as know how to appreciate the beaty of mechanical keyboard that is enough.
I don't think mechanical keyboard is for gaming or typing or whatever, just let the user enjoy it then is a good keyboard especially enjoying some tough work like type 50 pages report.^^

I've got a go at the BlackWidow Ultimate for a week now too (for testing only, decided not to keep).

The good:
- It's mech, it'll last long.
- MX blue switches, I know it is down to perspective and personal tastes, but I really like blue switches as I type more than I game on a PC these days. Feels, really really good. biggrin.gif
- Overall, the keyboard looks good. Nice backlighting, as you can adjust the brightness.
- Good gaming keyboard for RTS games mostly, as you won't naturally hold more than 2 keys at once.
- Macros? Macros are always a nice addition.

The bad:
- Like everyone has said, 2KRO. Phail, indeed.. phail. FPS gamers will hate this, if you're not hardcore and you only really press one key at a time... it's fine. But if you're a person who straffs diagonally while switching weapons back and forth, this is a fail.
- Even Razer says it is well optimised around the WASD area, I think it is still a turn off. You WILL need to readjust in order to compensate for the 2KRO issue.
- While I know Razer is all about the bling, the glossy exterior turns me off. Having to wipe off the dust every single morning is tedious, leaving the dust there will look like spiders live under the keyboard.
- Price... Nearly RM400 for the Ultimate and nearly RM300 for the Expert... I don't know, the Expert is an okay deal if you really just play RTS games. I think some people are selling the Expert for as low as RM280 now. But the Ultimate at RM400? Not worth it IMO, period.

All in all, I wouldn't call the BlackWidow a failure...
I mean, Razer could have really just upped their game on the keyboard. 4KRO would be nice, 6KRO better... I don't see the reason why they can't do this. RM400 for a 2KRO mech keyboard is a little bit of a turn off if you ask me.

Anyways with that said, returning this keyboard... ain't keeping it.

Nice review. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif
Mostly i would play DotA or Sc2 all the time. Maybe RPG which is coming soon Diablo 3. So this could be my choice.
Im not a hardcore FPS, so if im playing COD, i would not keep on switch weapon all the times biggrin.gif

I played a bit of SC2 with it, and while my APM ain't as fast as I was in SC1... emm, it does cope up pretty well.
I think Razer is mainly targetting this keyboard at typists and RTS players, if you are one of em'... get the Expert, don't splurge an extra RM100+ for the Ultimate.

Does anyone know where I can get Daskeyboard in Malaysia? Or, if not, how can I get it? Must join those "buy from US" threads?

Oh, and on the other hand, I'm a complete beginner to mech keyboards, so can anyone recommend a better alternative to Daskeyboard? I'm looking for a relatively quiet kb, and perhaps even a little more emphasis on design?

Based on what i know, the 2kro actually affected anything.
They say BW is 2KRO only because the the keyboard fail ZXC.
Even though a hardcord fps player won't stroke ZXC together.

Price wise, RM400 for a mechanical keyboard with backlit. For me it is super cheap.
Compare to 7G, the price is just really really reasonable.

Anyway myself will still stick on my 7G because of the epic wrist rest. And my personal preference is MX black or RED is best which totally no click.

@zandara
The converter can be found in most of the LYP shop lo. I got 3 to 4 with me.

@ jay
For expert version sure, the keyboard it work. For ultimate version, for higher level of brightness, ps/2 port might encountered insufficient power for the back lit.

For macro recording, the ps/2 port which only handling the keyboard function most probably cant work (i think so)
However, if say the BW onboard memory can handle those macro button and output it as keystroke to the ps/2 port then maybe can.
Since i don't have the keyboard, so all this only my guess based on some theory analysis, maybe you can ask bro those had received the BW to try for you.

Definitely ZXC is an issue.
Honestly though, the problem isn't a huge deal... you just need to re-adjust, but for me it is just a turn off.

What I'm saying is that, it isn't as bad as most people make it up to be.
I belief that Razer could have done better, but did not.

Can.
But on the ultimate, no lights and no macros.

For the expert, I can't say for sure since I don't have it but I'm pretty sure macros won't work too for the on-the-fly recording.
So if you're willing to fore-go macros, go for the expert... get a PS/2 adapter, and walla! Awesome keyboard for RM280.
