If i am not wrong in malaysia law camera phones must have sound and light to show you are taking photos. This is to prevent people to take candid photos. Thats why APAC firmware you cant disable without hacking. If you use european firmware it can be turn off by warning tones.

In N900 we have root access to entire OS system.Making the camera silent is as simple as deleting a .wave file.
Also changing the profile to "silent" mode make the camera shutter silent too.

the root access is the most powerful mode... anything can be done including kernel mods or module mods as everythings can be change and replace...

if it's work with u then sure others can work too... as i can recall this mod is kind of tricky as i've to to modify the mod to meet my required installation name but it will failed until i use the original mods name... so i wonder...

If this is THE Malaysian Law. I interested to know whether the Syariah Law is being involved? As ridiculous as this may sound, they find Malaysians immature with handling cameras with "No sound"? Or they think that this will reduce stalking rate? 3rd party applications are everywhere to counter such acts in the book. To me, no point. I rather Nokia remain the camera settings as it is with APAC firmware instead.

third party file manager do can READ ONLY for system files but can't WRITE it... same goes to the system folders....
so what the most important thing would be FULL root access....

1.the body around camera can get scratch?
2.n8 body is scratch resistance or not?

U can either

option 1 - use your finger to close it
Option 2 - put cellotape

the camera sound mod should be fine to use the "old" mods for the S60V5 devices, as compared the N8 fw with the mods it seem it's should work!!
confirmed it's a safe mods...
