haha zstan, nice to see you over here.  smile.gif

Hi everybody,

Can you guys recommend me some good quality portrait lenses of focal length:
1) 60mm,
2) 70mm or
3) 16-60mm zoom
must be at least f2.8, price rm1-1.5k (possible?)

Sony or other makes also can. I plan to use it with A55 (haven't bought yet).
Cheers!

Thanks ieR for your input.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the guy said his Tamron lens is for Nikon,
so can't be used with A55, right? He also mentioned that it has got
no built-in motor, so does it mean it has no autofocus function? blink.gif

the tamron lens motor is design for nikon camera that doesnt has built in motor...

zstan: The background could have been framed such to avoid the buildings from merging with the ride. biggrin.gif

fansoption: That's weird - the A55 should be able to support ring flashes as well. Sony does not make a ring flash though; they only have a ring light at the moment.

ahtiven: No such thing, put the filters in the drybox!

mastering89: Nice cat picture! It's almost as if it commanded its master(slave?) to take its picture.

Nothing poisonous about a D3s fixed to a pole with very limited motion. It would be better off it and in low light!

Yes, the A33/A55 is at Sony Style Berjaya Times Square. Yes, they do let you try everything!

aureliux: Nice closeup of the tiger! The second shot could be a bit looser though.

vincyuee: No, not this series of lenses in particular. The 100mm F3.5 Macro is a decent lens though!

ProX: A bit too green - try adjusting the levels in Photoshop, especially in the green channel. That should give the prawn a bit more pop!

sevenor: The Sony 85mm F2.8 DT SAM should be coming out in October or November this year for under RM1000. The Tamron 60mm F2.8 DiII Macro is also a good choice but I don't know how much that is.

If you buy a Tamron make sure it comes with an Alpha mount on the back of the lens.

ieR: Not feeling it with the Starbucks photos. Also, posters who post non-Alpha related items do not get banned.

tested A55 with 18-55 SAM kit lens kwa kwa at home ....

feel different taste on e-view finder. If switch to manual and shoot macro in 1:1, is a bit difficult to focus. (maybe i still not familiar
)

ISO noise level is a great improvement compare with my A550.
I tested up to 6400.. noise level still acceptable.
The return of ISO 100 is make me suprise ( should be recv a lot of complains from A550 )

Lightweight, holding design is more suitable for ladies ..

Color saturate is more accurate compare with my A550.

really enjoy on new LCD display.. ( cun than my A550 )

Sony A55 Firmware Hack

■APS-C sensor can shoot up to 10 FPS 4k JPEG Stills
■Sensor can shoot 24p MJPEG at 3k for up to 45 seconds
■Sensor can shoot 48p MJPEG at 2k for up to 1 minute
■Sensor can shoot 60p MJPEG 1080p for 2 minutes
The A55 is vastly superior to the GH1. The memory buffer system is a bottleneck in the GH1 where as in the A55 it can handle 10 full size frames/second for a few seconds, this is huge because at a lower pixel count such as 3k it can record 3k Motion JPEG video.

wrong again la bro.

1.7-1.9k is got VC one. None VC copy can get at 1.3k. Even if you buy from futoromic(official dealer for tamron lenses in malaysia) also less than 1.6 IINM. laugh.gif

ever lens of different brands have different mounts. so you can't exactly put a Canon lens into a Sony body.

Same thing for tamron. As a 3rd party lens maker, it makes lenses for different brands with different mounts.

no built in motor means it is screw driven. means the lens relies on the body to autofocus. if the body, like the nikon D3000, which does not have a in-body AF motor, then your lens cannot AF if it doesnt have its own motor. laugh.gif

However, in the film camera days, they just used adapter for mounting a lens to various make. smile.gif

yes that's why i said 'can't exactly put...' and not 'totally cannot use other brands lenses'.

adapters are available out there... laugh.gif but downside is it might not autofocus..

Just curious. hmm.gif
How often does one have to change the silica? Is there a way we can find out if the silica in the dry box is no longer effective?

Correct me if I'm wrong, silica does not change colour even when it's 'saturated' and can no longer absorb moisture, right?

Thks!

bro, actually there's really no 'wrong' decision... MOST of the DSLR/DSLTs out there are really good... Canon 550d, 60d - Nikon D5000, D3100, Sony a33,a55,a580.... its up to you and how u utilize the camera... but with sony u get alot of cool people in this forum... rclxms.gif

and ull get the all too famous question which is:

"How come you didnt buy Canon/Nikon?" sweat.gif
