huntx,

Sounds like you have the wrong driver for the XP. Look up for the alternative driver such as at http://driver.wareseeker.com/Network-Card/...00.0.zip/323554

i have found out how to make it work on xp again. it seen like a bug...
but i will try to find a way to completely solve it rclxub.gif

You have to turn off eee, remove power cable, count to 10, plug in power cord, power on -> works.
It's in the LAN driver readme. You have to do this the first time you install the driver.

I have no experience on LAN ports failure in Ubuntu, Open, Fedora, PCLOS or even Windows and have used Marvell, Giga, Real Tek. It'll just auto detect.

you need a lot of softwares to compile a source, especially the gcc
1. download the source code
2. decompress the and untar the file
3. read the readme file
4. normally, as root, do these
./configure
make
make install
