Bootup your Ubuntu live cd
and issue command

grub-install /dev/hda --root-directory=/media/hdb1

or

grub-install /dev/hda1--root-directory=/media/hdb1

you do know, yahoo messenger for unix, is not updated for a long time.

it is actually better for you to use gaim, or even better gyache.

gyache is a yahoo client, don't think it is in repository, but can get it from automatix

Linux newbie here and after a month using ubuntu, some questions comes to mind:

Q1:Where did deleted files go to? the trash can? where is it?
Q2:the folders in my fat32 partition got locked. How do I gain the permission to delete/modify it?
Q3:Does ctrl-alt-delete still work? what about other shortcuts?
Q4:How and where do I check if my pc got compromised (malware, virus, hacked). Years of using windows can make anyone paranoid.
Q5: Is wmv video files a problem in ubuntu? I read somewhere that different versions of wmv cant be played in linux. Comfirm or deny?
Q6: Is there a program that can run multiple lines of command that usually needed to be inputted in the terminal?

Thanks in advance

answer for:
q1. good question, it is in the trashcan in both gnome and kde. you should be able to see it. where do the thrashcan save the trash anyway?

q2. you will need to be root, or delete the file in shell.

q3. don't think you will need ctrl-alt-del anymore. there is shortcut in linux. you will need to check it out. for example in kubuntu, alt-space will launch katapult in kde. very nifty tools actually

q4. well, you don't really need it. but it exist, such as clamav, chkrootkit, rkhunter, firewall like shorewall, or the good old iptables. i probably use the firewall alot, but rarely check for rootkit, even i installed it.

q5. by default yes, but you can install extra codec in easyubuntu and automatix.

q6. you mean a script right? i assume you mean a script, you just type in a text file, then chmod +x the_name. i think you will need this line '#! /bin/bash' , in the beginning of the script. here i assume you use bash, which is default for ubuntu.

Q2:the folders in my fat32 partition got locked. How do I gain the permission to delete/modify it?
$su root
password: xxxxxx
$chown username:root /fat32 (get permission delete/modify)

Q3:Does ctrl-alt-delete still work? what about other shortcuts?
Kde yes - ctrl-alt-del = logout!, plus "menu editor" we can set short key for certain command. Gnome not too sure..

Q5: Is wmv video files a problem in ubuntu? I read somewhere that different versions of wmv cant be played in linux. Comfirm or deny?
Confirm!

Q6: Is there a program that can run multiple lines of command that usually needed to be inputted in the terminal?
You can issue multiple command in one line as below :
$uname -a;date;df -m
Linux slax 2.6.16 #95 Wed May 17 10:16:21 GMT 2006 i686 pentium3 i386 GNU/Linux
Sat Mar 24 20:41:43 GMT 2007
Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 3753 1649 1913 47% /
/dev/hda1 3753 1649 1913 47% /mnt/hda1
/dev/hda5 15018 910 13346 7% /mnt/hda5

otherwise, as sweemeng told, use shell script, chmod & run it!

Greeting all Ubuntu-ers.

Just one short question. Did anyone successfully sync PDAs (to be exact, O2 xda mini) before?

I found quite a few guide. But it's too complicated to understand. Thanks.

Aztech eh? Can you connect at all? Because if you can connect, but cannot surf the internet and whatnot, it's most probably the router's DNS problem.

Anyway, I've got Aztech 600EW, and that darn thing allows me to connect but something about the IPv6 and whatnot causes most DNS lookups to fail. Try disabling it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87798
