If you want to install it using the Ubuntu LiveCD, put it into your CD drive and then start/restart your computer. Then it will boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD into the Ubuntu OS which will allow you to install it on your computer.

Find some way to get into your BIOS when your computer is booting up. On most motherboards, it's turning on the PC and then pressing the delete key repeatedly. On my other computer, it was F10, so you can try those keys.
Once you're in, look for something to do with boot device priority or something similar. Then, find some way to make the CD drive the first option.
After that, just restart your computer. Your computer should start from the Ubuntu CD.

Does it even spin your CD drive when you boot up? Try inserting a Windows CD into your CD drive. Does it boot up normally? If yes, then you haven't managed to make the CD drive the first boot device.

It's generating an arbitrary number of characters based on the CD's contents. I only know how to do it in Linux.

QUOTE i downloaded it. it is an iso file but it appear as an zip file. is this normal? Apparently you extracted the ZIP file, and burnt the contents into the CD, didn't you? Now that won't work, you will need a ISO burning software such as Nero Burning ROM or such (I think NTI can do it). The ISO image is configured to be bootable, but if you extract the ISO file, such data will be lost.

May I know how much RAM do you have installed? I heard that this issue might be caused by the lack of RAM. This is because when you run a LiveCD, everything happens in the RAM - and insufficient RAM might lead to the Operating System unable to allocate memory. I found some information here.

Strange. Does that problem only occur on that laptop or all other computers you try it on?

QUOTE(littleman @ Apr 7 2007, 11:41 PM) Usually when you download huge files there's a slim chance of getting bit errors while downloading. It's not noticeable if it's audio or video, but for ISOs it could ruin the whole disk. So people generate a "hash" using a certain maths algorithm ("md5" for example) before it's being served for downloads. When you finished download you generate the hash again yourself and compare what you've got with theirs. If it's different you've got a bad file. Did you use bittorrent, or http to download the iso? Which version did you get? (PowerPC, i386, 64-bit)
