I suggest you to redownload and reburn again the .ISO. Or if u have much time, try to download 6.10 (Edgy) as well.

I'd say wait for April 19 then download Ubuntu Feisty. There are much more feature in that and it's easier to configure and so on, so I hear.

Seriously, fluxbuntu seems cool for those of us who plan to run an Ubuntu-variant on lowe spec machines.

GNOME and KDE may seem cool but those of us with lesser powered machine will need something lighter; Xubuntu is also getting kinda bloated.

Hello,

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 6.10 (Efty) but I'm having some problems. everytime I load the live CD and I press 'Start or Launch' option, it loads for a while and then it just doesn't load the graphical inteface. Instead I have a command line that says (initramfs).

Here are my specs, if you think you can help:

Intel Core2Duo E6300 1.8 Ghz
2 Gigs DDR2 RAM
250 Gigs SATA HD

I have no video card yet, so I'm using the onboard graphics on my
Intel DG965RY chipset.

If there is anything anyone can do to help, please. I really am interested in using Ubuntu.

Thanks,
Ami J.

Did i say anything else like

"Failed to start Xwindows etc etc?"

I think the live CD failed to recognize your onboard graphic card (usually they do, no matter what kind of graphic adapter did u use, unless the hardware is very very recently released which i found it's still out of place)

Try

sudo startx

or reconfig your xserver-xorg

sudo dpkg -reconfigure xserver-xorg

and choose intel drivers to load the live system.

well, aren't the default driver in livecd works in vesa mode?
i don't think graphic card is the main culprit here.

need more info from this problem.
stop at initramfs, any other message?

Right click on the Beryl icon at the notification area, then click "Emerald Theme Manager". There's an "Import" button there, just select the theme file.

If you don't have the icon, but think you have already installed it, try typing alt+F2 and type "beryl-manager" without the quotes. If it runs and the beryl icon appears then you have beryl installed. Otherwise, follow the instructions given by cry4freedom.

p.s. cry4freedom, I really like your avatar xD

Well, probably it can't support the wifi adapter by default.
The best bet is to go the website and look for wifi adapter linux drivers based on your wifi chipset.

If the ifconfig shows eth0, at least one of the adapter is detected.
What do you mean that you can't use ethernet? how did you try?

Wireless interfaces might have other names, depending on chipset and drivers used. Atheros chips show up as ath<num>, and some show up as wlan<num>. When you get wireless working type "iwconfig" and the interface that shows your wifi stats will be the right one.

What's your card? Your best bet is to go to the official forums and search if anyone posted guides on how to get it working. In worst cases you just need to kacau around with Windows drivers a bit.

Why don't you post your output for the commands "ifconfig" and "iwconfig" here. I think that'll give us a better picture of your problem.

I noticed if my cpu(s) are using OnDemand frequency scaling
then my laptop hangs when suspending.

I know I have to set them to PowerSave in the ACPI scripts
but I don't know where to put the commands.

I have Ubuntu Edgy on a Lenovo N100. Help!

- yap

-------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, I found where to put the commands. Just create a file
in /etc/acpi/resume.d/ and key in the commands.
