QUOTE(TrialUserXP @ Dec 26 2006, 11:32 PM) till now i'm still unable to uncompress .rar files.... You can install rar and unrar from the software repositories. I think you need to enable the universe repository before installing. Use:ubuntu guru, pls give me a hand.. thank you in advance. CODE $ sudo apt-get install rar $ sudo apt-get install unrar Then you should be able to use the rar and unrar command line tools. Now rar support is also enabled in File Roller (Archive Manager). |

The easiest way to uncompress file is by using unp.
unp xxx.tar unp xxx.bz unp xxx.zip almost every compression format supported (depends on compression library installed) |

I'm using ubuntu 6.10 (edgy) and i have kiba-dock and beryl installed. The problem is kiba-dock always seems to overlay other applications. In other words, it is always on top. Is there any way to configure kiba dock to be always bottom(pin to desktop)?

when i try sudo apt-get unrar, it has prompted me:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree... Done Package unrar is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package unrar has no installation candidate |

It is somewhat annoying if the icons goes over the text. QUOTE(TrialUserXP @ Dec 28 2006, 10:54 PM) You need to enable the multiverse repository. (Sorry, it was my mistake CODE deb http://sg.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy main restricted Change the "sg" to the mirror you want. If there's an existing "main" line, add "restricted" to it. |

How much space could you allocate for Ubuntu?
It's better if you let us know that. Then probably we can give you a rough estimate of /,/root and swap |

QUOTE(jiant @ Jan 26 2007, 09:11 PM) i m try to install ubuntu with winxp intall previously (dual boot).. for root partition u only need 5GB or 6GB.... that is the minimum i think if u r not going to install any other desktop environment like KDE... and u need swap partition, 512MB i guess is enough. my ubuntu and debian both only have 512MB swap, and never run any problem yet.how ever some problem is occur during the installing ...(step 6) some thing like partition...how many space MB or GB is need for /, /root and etc that need for istalling ubuntu properly?? make sure u have free space to make partition for linux and be careful not to delete ur windows partition... |
