What tool did you use to partition your hdd in the first place?
Is your Windows XP running on ntfs?
Well, i'm sure you need a driver for that.
Contact the manufacturer and see if they provide drivers for linux.

Try if the driver is included in Ubuntu, but chances are, slim.

swap is not "/" , swap is swap, "/" is the Root partition, an linux system must at least got two partition one is the swap, another is the "/", swap is like RAM, for linux temporary store file.
*
so which one should be swap, and which one is root (/)

should partition C (XP) be swap?

After all, are you trying to install two O/S into a single HDD?
Making dual-boot?

Windows XP partition can never be swap.
Swap itself is a partition and it cannot be shared between Windows and Linux.

Are you confused or something? tongue.gif

yes i am trying to make dual-boot

Have you tried with another CD? I get that last time before even installing any Linux on my PC. I tested the CD i burned and it has errors. So I burned another one and make sure there's no errors, and the installation went well.
